“Mirek Coutigny in collaboration with Elias Devoldere gives an electronic rework of Atlas under Icarus Records. An electronic jazztronica with beautiful atmosphere and funk guitar, ticklings drum set selection and smooth keys. Wonderful chill out!”

In recent years, pianist and producer Mirek Coutigny has worked on his own world of sound with electronic and acoustic instruments. He improvised on sketches that he wrote over the last 10 years and reworked them for piano, strings, percussion and electronics. This culminated into the release of his first EP in 2018, 'Revisions #1'.

After the first album, a live set was created with Jonathan Bonny (percussion) and Jolien Deley (cello). In this formation they won both the audience prize and the jury prize for the Leffingeleuren 2019 festival.

His second album sounds a lot more intuitive and organic: where debut album “Revisions # 1” was a record of thoughts, “The Further We Ventured” is a record from the heart. Sometimes complex, sometimes amazingly accessible; comparisons with Jóhann Jóhannsson or Ólafur Arnalds are never far away.

As The Birds Fly (electronic rework) from Mirek Coutigny is a delightful ambient downtempo electronica with wonderful atmospheres and solid sound design, delivers its fine harmonic beauty wisely to the end.

Few words about Mirek Coutigny
In the last years Mirek Coutigny has been on a continuous quest to blend acoustic and electronic instruments as you’ve never heard before. The result is music that is driven by a never-ending pulse, influenced by minimal music, but always moving from one story to the next. From the combination of his energetic piano playing, nostalgic synthesizers and subtle strings emerges a cinematic soundscape that tells the story without images.

His debut EP was released in 2018. In 2019 he was joined by Jonathan Bonny and Jolien Deley for a series of liveperformances. 2020 will see the release of his next EP, on the label Icarus Records.

Echoes and dust: “...with Revisions #1, Coutigny shows promise that he can turn into a true musical voice.”

Poppunt: “... He impresses with a wide range of sounds, reminding of artists like Nils Frahm, Max Richter or HAUSCHKA. What a discovery!’

Dansende Beren: “... Despite all comparisons, we mainly hear an artist with a vision of his own, who knows exactly what he’s doing. A show on another level.”
