LOVESICK is a killer piece of uptempo left-field pop. Disrupting expectations within its opening bar, it has a corruption to its edgy, electronic hip-hop backbone that compliments a frenetic story of betrayal. Featuring an incredible verse by up-and-coming female pop/hip-hop guest Tusanxmi from Jamaica, the project is both vulnerable and fierce, as well as diverse and culturally rich. Spectoral explains what led to the collab in the press release.

LOVESICK is the newest single from revered Australian producer Spectoral, who’s spent much of the last two years busily readying an enormous debut album featuring no fewer than fifteen (!!) guests. Two of these feature on LOVESICK, with a third behind the scenes.

“I’m three EPs deep into my career, but only now do I feel like I’ve really arrived on the scene” says Spectoral from their light-filled studio, overflowing to the brim with Devil’s Ivy, Schefflera, Monstera, Palms and Pilea. Studio Daylight, as it’s named, resembles more of a garden nursery than a state-of-the-art pop production house, but don’t be fooled.

“The plants thrive off the music, and my creativity thrives off the plants, so we have somewhat of a symbiotic relationship” says the Australian-Mauritian-Slovakian producer when asked about the aesthetic.

So where did the idea for LOVESICK come from, and where is its place in the upcoming album?

“The hook is where that track began, and that hook is actually the brainchild of Canadian / Australian artist Ryan Cruise. We probably wouldn’t have a song at all if it wasn’t for that melodic vocal hook coming at me so damn infectious in the first place. It planted the seed and the potential grew from there.”

“The rest of the song is a true story, of sorts” the producer says. “The words come from life, and I think song is the silver lining born in the aftermath. In fact, the whole album is an aftermath, and LOVESICK is one key chapter in the larger story it will tell at the end of this year with any luck.”

The influence of ultramodern contemporaries like SEBASTIAN PAUL, Elijah Hill, Golden Vessel, BAYNK and NICOLOSI are apparent on LOVESICK, and Spectoral doesn’t shy away from admitting there’s a real fandom there. “Oh yeah for sure, they come up in my Spotify radio suggestions all the time. It’s hard not to be both wowed and also go, like, ‘challenge accepted’ whenever I hear something totally incredible from those artists, which is often.”

“But I also consider myself a collaborator at heart,” continues Spectoral, “which is why I’ve got so many underground names featuring alongside me on the album.”

Poised for an end-of-year drop, the album is hugely anticipated among Spectoral’s rapidly growing fanbase, particularly in Australia where they’re an integral committee member of The Beat Collective, a sprawling network of artists and producers. It’s this Collective, says Spectoral, that led to the realization that sharing in the strengths of each others’ talents can lead to much greater artistry.

“It’s that thing where the ‘whole is greater than the sum of its parts’ I guess.” says the producer. “Take LOVESICK for example, it wouldn’t be anything if not for what Megadead and Tusanxmi bring to it. Megadead has this knack for pulling incredible sound design out of nowhere and I doubt it’ll be the last time we do something together. He is a sound design genius wrapped in this humble, ironic presentation, I’m such a fan. And Tusanxmi, I knew right away when I heard her vocal on singles Hinata and Summer Days that I had to work with her. Sure enough she’s knocked it out of the park with her verse on LOVESICK, it’s lifted the entire thing to five stars for me.”

Fom Blixie Perestroika’s debut album AMBITION IS LOW, the first single ‘Everything and Nothing’ is a “gentle” introduction to the band’s work, says singer Blixie. The song starts slowly, a dreamlike entry to a vast, dynamic soundscape that culminates in soaring vocals, or as singer Blixie says: “the sound of truth gleaned only after having f-cked up, the sound of self-recrimination.” Part of the song is based on having experienced the “saccharine, dirty madness” of getting lost in “desert time” in Los Angeles. “I was reeling from the shock of losing a great friend, a true genius.” Blixie says. “I spent too long chasing adventures in L.A with people I thought were kindred spirits on the basis that they had made films/music/art that were meaningful to me when I was younger. In reality they were shadows. People of no fixed personality or loyalty. I stayed too long trying to break through to their humanity, but it was reserved for the script, the screen, the studio…I got tired of perpetually dealing with people whose ambition could strip the enamel off teeth. Meanwhile, the smartest person I’ve ever known, and one of the kindest, sincerest…was back home all along. Unfortunately by the time I realised, it was too late. Alot of people waste time investing in subpar relationships based on a promise, on perceived potential. Everything and Nothing is a lament and reminder: don’t waste your time. Realise when to stop looking for proof of something that doesn’t exist, except in fantasy.”

Maddy Brown (Madelyn Wright Brown) found her voice through many different genres of music, which ultimately shaped her musical direction in the form of unique blending of choral harmonies, jazz-influenced melodies, and pop-infused R&B instrumentals.

With an exceptional familial background in music, intensive vocal and opera training, and in-depth jazz studies, Maddy’s singing and songwriting abilities are largely influenced by her time as a voice major at the Cal State Fullerton School of Music. However, though she gained essential skills and knowledge musically during her time in music school, Maddy often found herself overworked, struggling with writer’s block, and burnt out creatively. She finally found space throughout the pandemic — both in time and emotions — to finally express and voice her thoughts through her own music as Maddy Brown.

Symphonic and Digital Promotions Group announce the release of rising pop singer-songwriter Jessica Carter Altman’s new single “Lucky One.” Altman, who is currently putting the finishing touches on a new EP, For You, the follow-up to her debut No Rules, is sharing a heartfelt ballad dedicated to her father. This first single is perhaps the most deeply personal song to date in her repertoire—it’s a gorgeously uplifting acoustic ballad that pays homage to the strength and inspiration her father instilled in her.

Carter Altman notes: “I wrote the first track, ‘Lucky One,’ early in the pandemic. My father would always talk about how lucky he felt to have my brother and me as his children. This song was my response – that we were the lucky ones to have such a wonderful and caring father. And with the help of Jason Lehning, Jordan Lehning, Todd Lombardo, Viktor Kraus and my co-writer Palmer Lee, I was able to record and give it to him just before his passing.”

Though her lyrics are very personal, they touch universal chords that countless others can relate to having lived through the devastating losses and dramatic life alterations in the wake of the pandemic. It touches on both Robert’s selfless commitment to helping so many people in his life and the view that at the end of the day, the only things that matter in life are family and friends.

Jessica Carter Altman finds a graceful sweet spot between raw emotional power and intimate subtlety on her upcoming three track EP For You, an acoustic project featuring three beautiful and heartfelt original songs inspired by and dedicated to her father Robert A. Altman, a prominent D.C lawyer and businessman.

Considering her admiration for her dad, it made perfect sense for Jessica to follow in his footsteps and that of his side of the family, many of which also went to law school. Jillian Lee Antinora’s “Lighthouse” is a tender ode to friendship. Utilizing her acoustic guitar to create the mellow and inviting atmosphere which is characteristic to her music, the singer-songwriter conjures up warmth and gratitude. “This is a song I wrote for my best friends. I have really needed them over the past couple of years,” she explains. Using the metaphor of a lighthouse, Antinora paints a vivid picture of what it’s like to be like a lost boat that eventually finds hope outside of the darkness with a lighthouse. “You never criticize, you can cut through all the lights,” she sings, “the world tells us our truth, I’m so thankful for you.”

With acoustic-folk and the sweet envelopment of the cello, Antinora brings a depth of emotion to “Lighthouse.” Thanking God for her friends and demonstrating the strength of the female bond, Antinora explores the beauty of relationships and emphasizes their importance. “I wrote it to let them know how much they mean to me,” she says. “I have appreciated good friendships more and more as I have gotten older. Friends who listen, relate and help guide me through the struggles of life.”
