ED.E – Rattle
(Spotify)

Eddie Edwardson – better known to us as ED.E has been a steady presence on the buzzing underground in recent years on the back of a string of sturdy electronic releases that have been picking up momentum in the scene through an ever-growing listenership and through selective DJs alike.

Leading the two-tracker package is ‘Rattle’ a upfront and bass-heavy Techno workout that shows off ED.E’s production finesse with a flurry of raw and analogue sounding bass synths and hypnotic synths that intertwine with the eerie vocals that lace in-between the melodic elements. On the hefty drops – we are treated to a grinding synth scrape that unleashes a grizzly atmosphere and haunting energy that is predominantly designed to be heard at increased volumes on a system that can properly disperse the crafted sub weight and energy.

On the flip-side ED.E shows off ‘Timeless’ which provides an entrée of sizzling distortion FX and atmospherics over a crunchy kick drum and his signature synth growls to set the scene for another poignant vibe. More euphoric melodies takeover control on the breaks before a thoroughly trippy stack of arpeggios and vocal hits are halted by the return of the hefty bass and kick workout routine that the main body is constructed from.

ED.E once again shows us that he’s a Producer that knows the roots and bones of how to construct professional Techno records and this double package will take a spot alongside a discography that is both impressive and extensive.

‘Rattle’ is out now on Stazis labelled STAZIS198 and makes for a cracking addition to a label that has earned a reputation for showcasing some of the best emerging talents in the scene.

DJ Jordan – Natural Beauty
(Spotify)

Hungry Koala Records are already a firmly regular sight in the top 100 charts across the underground electronic music genres and their tough push into 2020 has seen that rapid growth continue on the back of a stellar line of new releases. Picking up and running with the torch this month is one of Berlin’s finest DJ Jordan – a highly-regarded DJ/Producer who can regularly find directing crowds at some of the cities most infamous Techno hotspots. On the back of a Beatport #01 to wrap up 2019 – we’ve come to expect big things from this talented beat-master and ‘Natural Beauty’ fits right into that classic discography of his.

Snapping into life with a harsh and heavily distorted kick and bass pattern – that vintage DJ Jordan menace is here in full force as he swerves and slides through barrages of militant rhythmic rolls, eerier SFX, vocal blurts and haunting synths that build and build into a crescendo of electronic dominance. The breaks allow a moment to breathe, but not for long as the fills, FX and modulation build up to a boiling hot drop that lets off a juggernaut drop that is tailor made for dancefloor damage. As if this banger of a track was not enough, we’re also treated to three further interpretations from Pomella, M.O.B.A and QUAL & FREUDE – all of them individual and offering a different vibe for a variety of club uses for the discerning DJ.

Famous on the underground for keeping a raw and upfront vibe to his records – some things never change and DJ Jordan’s aptitude for banging club music remains firmly intact after a long and winding career on the scene. Right at home on Hungry Koala Records – this is another shining example of why the label has become one of the most subscribed to imprints in the Techno-sphere.

‘Natural Beauty’ is out May 25th and will be available on all good digital music stores and streaming platforms.

Four Hands (GER) – Reminisce
(Spotify)

German producers Four Hands kick off their new label Verspielt with the release of Modulate EP which marks the start of a new venture into the depths of electronic music and the subtle nuances of exploring the boundaries of traditional genres.

‘Reminisce’ is a blockbuster production that deconstructs the Techno, House and Trance genres and reimagines the constructs of each variety for a record that showcases their skillsets with a 2020 take on the recent unification of melodic dance music with a more underground outlook that leans into the modern Techno vibe.

Shuttling right out of the gates with a pumping and bass-heavy kick, the record quickly cracks into action with a supple low end sub bass and soft teasing intros of the synths that hark back to classic euphoric styles with an ominous and modernised format. Licks of synth leads scatter high, low and then direct through the middle of the spectrum to give a three-dimensional soundscape that absorbs layers of melody from every angle both wide and through the middle of the sonic field. The middle breaks start to feel more Progressive as layers begin to stack up and the complexity of the production becomes clearer than the simpler intro might suggest. Listen closer and you can detect the melodic layers are stacked through multiple channels of arpeggiators, stabs and a gliding melody that all twist and turn to become one. Nothing in the production is there as filler content, but every slick hook, melody and run of FX seems to be planned and executed with purpose, the mark of a powerful electronic music record in our ears. This is a slick production that shows attention to detail, respect for the engineering process and creativity in abundance.

It’s a bold first entry from Verspielt Musik and Four Hands, but if this is the debut – we can only assume that 2020 is going to be a busy and exciting year ahead if there’s more to come from the beat-lab where this jewel was cooked up.

‘Reminisce’ is out now as a part of the Modulate EP and launches the new Verspielt Musik project into action.
