Peter Aries Interview on Nagamag

Nagamag:
What are the genres that describe better your music style?

Peter Aries:
I'm quite "genre-fluid", but I mostly identify myself with electronic genres such as synthwave and trance, which is why I chose "This is the 80s" as my signature track. I do however mix in other genres, and have been incorporating quite a bit of classical themes in some of my tracks. Which for me made it feel quite natural to try out a classical only themed release. Thus "Stories" came to be.

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

Peter Aries:
I've been playing the piano since I was 10 and I started making music on the family's first computer when I was 14 (I used Fasttracker back then). My first official (or known rather) release was in 2006, an EP called "Finally" which was only released on CD. Since then I've released over 100 tracks in various genres and styles. I've mostly worked by myself, but I have also made some collaborations with artists such as MarsTv and Social Ambitions. My most streamed track of all times is currently "When All Things End", a collaboration I did with the very talented vocalist and artist Karin My. She has recently released a new album, so definitely go check it out.
Unfortunately the music doesn't pay the bills yet, so I work as a product manager as my daily job. I have great colleagues and it's quite a challenging job. I still feel like I learn new things every day. However, if money was not an issue, if I'd have to choose occupation between music creation and product management, music would win every day of the week. :)

Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

Peter Aries:
For sure. It was at my day care, when I was 4 or 5 years old. Someone played Super Mario Bros 1 on Nintendo while at the same time someone else played something on a keyboard in the room. I thought the sounds I heard were so incredibly cool that it sparked something within me. So there and then I knew I just had to play the synth when I got old enough. So it's my one true call in life you could say.

Nagamag:
Most artists have a favorite song from a different music genre than the one they are producing music for... Which is yours?

Peter Aries:
Vangelis "Tears in Rain"

Nagamag:
Of Course Nagamag would love to listen also which track from a similar artist you admire?

Peter Aries:
Pylot "The Return"

Madwave – Vooteta – Radio Mix (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Electronica, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“A big surprice for the Trance maniacs is out by Madwave. Special mix with cool intro, gradual progression and supersonic melodies. Profesionally crafted piece with some kind of unexpected power, which will steal your heart.”

-Nagamag.com

Phoenix Recordings, established in 2006 by Switzerland based artists Madwave and Dave Joy.

Tracks and remixes from legends such as Jorn van Deynhoven, Darren Porter, Woody van Eyden, XiJaro & Pitch, F.G. Noise, Ron van den Beuken, Dave202, S.H.O.K.K., Basic Dawn, Mind-X, Sakin & Friends, Raver's Nature, Tommy Pulse and many others...

Initially launched because Madwave wanted to press a vinyl of the anthem of his event brand "SYNERGY". He discussed this idea with Dave Joy, who was already running his own labels "Thrust Groove Records" (Hit: Basic Dawn - Pure Thrust) and "Joyride Recordings" and so they started this adventure together and released the "SYNERGY Anthem 2006" as their first release on the brand new label.

Because of the sudden demise of vinyl sales in 2007, there were only two records pressed ("SYNERGY Anthem 2006" and "Are You Mad?" by Michael Tsukerman), which both are still available. Test pressings of three more releases were made but didn't end up getting pressed. Those treasures are locked away in the Joyride Music vault.

One of the key ideas was also to find hidden talents. The label has been supporting newcomers from the start and has helped to build the profile of many artists who nowadays are in the top league of the Trance scene. After a small output slowdown between 2013 and 2015 the label has regained consciousness and continued to release almost on a weekly basis... up until today.

Tracks were included on legendary CD compilations such as A State Of Trance, Grotesque, Dream Dance, Future Trance, Tunnel Trance Force, D.Trance, Trancemaster, Street Parade Official and countless others and have been supported by pretty much every big DJ. The biggest streaming success so far is by Rasmus Kent - Concussion (Richard Tanselli Remix) with close to 750'000 unique plays. Almost every release/track made it into the Beatport chart in some way (Top100, Hype, Relases). Based on beatstats.com, Phoenix Recordings is listed in the Top 50 of the best selling Trance labels on Beatport (last 12 months).

Some of the most successful releases were "Blinding Lights" (cover version of The Weeknd hit) by Leo van Goch & The Sixth Sense feat. Sevda B, , "Arrival" by Dave202 (picked up by Armin van Buuren/Armada in 2011 for an official mash-up with the acapellas of "Beggin' You" by Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren), "Skywalker" by Simplex D.S.N. (Madwave Remix) and "Göteborg" by James Dust (in Beatport Hype charts for more than a month... nonstop).

The label has also managed to release official remixes of Classic Trance tracks such as "Pure Thrust" by Basic Dawn, "Twinkle" by Tommy Pulse, "Hands Up Ravers" by Raver's Nature, "Love - Freedom - Tolerance" by Mind-X, "Dragonfly" by Sakin & Friends, "Skywalker" by Simplex D.S.N. and "Never Die Alone" by Meriton Celiku.

Dardust x Benny Benassi – WITHIN ME (Radio Edit) (Video)

Categories: Electronica, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , , , |

“Enjoy the fresh work of Dardust, which has all you need to relax while staying active at the same time. Progressive, electronic, soft and mesmerizing melodies form the basic core of this stunning result. Congratulations!”

-Nagamag.com

– “Within Me” unites two very different Italian artists whose combined talents have created something even greater than the sum of their parts. Dardust collides the worlds of minimalist piano composition and ambient electronica, a mix that simultaneously echoes Max Richter, Philip Glass and Aphex Twin. Meanwhile, no introduction is needed for Grammy award-winner Benny Benassi, the electro house pioneer who regularly packs festivals and amasses millions of streams all over the world.

The result is something refreshingly different yet entirely in tune with their backgrounds. “Within Me” opens with Dardust’s captivating piano, which captures a melody as immediately infectious as anything from the world of pop while expressing an atmosphere both beautiful and evocative. Set alone, it’s serene, but Benny Benassi’s dynamic drops and restless beats fire it into the dancefloor. What follows is two artists challenging each other to reach new heights, both weaving between and complementing each other’s creativity. Listen HERE.

Dardust commented, ““Within me” is the opposite side of “Without You”, the most intimate and romantic track of the latest album “Storm and Drugs”. When I met Benny, we decided to contaminate it with his own world, looking out for something that would create an even stronger contrast with the original version. The song that came out of that could be considered as “Melodic Techno”, a romantic and magical club track that exasperates the simplicity and outrightness of the original version.”

Benny Benassi added, “I’ve always appreciated Dardust’s magical touch as a pianist and as a producer, so when the idea of making a progressive track together with a melodic piano part came about I was really excited to do it. It was amazing we were able to film it in the empty Verona Arena during the lockdown, too. That was a crazy experience!”

Dardust always wanted to push boundaries in music. Classically trained from a young age, his passion for music was equally inspired by everything from Kraftwerk to Underworld. He became a sought-after producer, scoring countless Platinum records and 500 million streams for his work with internationally successful Italian artists such as Mahmood, Sfera Ebbasta, Jovanotti and Ghali.

Throughout this era, one idea remained constant: could he reinvent classical music with an intergalactic vibe in a similar way to how David Bowie reimagined pop? It’s something he’s strived to achieve, from his debut album 7 in 2015 to last year’s ambitious S.A.D. Storm And Drugs (Artist First/Sony Music Masterworks), which set 18th-century classical piano within the 90s Manchester club scene.

In a career spanning thirty years, the iconic Benny Benassi has risen from an underground club DJ to a multi-million-selling producer. He shot to international success in 2003 with “Satisfaction”, a global hit that peaked at #2 in the UK with the help of an unforgettable video. That star status was confirmed with the release of his debut album, “Hypnotica”.

Since then, Benassi has accomplished countless major achievements. His tracks, such as the Chris Brown collab “Beautiful People” and “Cinema” (with Gary Go) reached huge audiences as he became a major attraction at Coachella, EDC, Ultra, Tomorrowland and countless others. He earned a Grammy for his remix of Public Enemy’s “Bring The Noise” and another when Skrillex remixed “Cinema”. He remains an in-demand collaborator and remixer for a new wave of major artists, including Lil Yachty, Yxng Bane and Jeremih.
