Rising London-based singer-songwriter Miles Pascall has made an impressive statement with new independently released single “Faith over Fear”. Having toured some of the world’s biggest arenas as a drummer for Cosha/Bonzai and been a session musician for many other artists, Miles’ elite musicianship comes to the forefront on this latest release as he strips everything back to let his powerful songwriting and emotive vocals take centre stage.

“Faith over Fear” encapsulates Miles’ ability to convey his deepest and most honest feelings in song form, with the lyrics doubling as a mantra for both the listener and for Miles himself to strive to put faith over fear in the toughest of situations. The lyrics are amplified further by being purposefully positioned against a minimalistic production led by piano to allow space for the listener’s own rationale and interpretation.

Speaking more on the track, Miles says, “‘Faith over Fear’ is the decision to take back control, regardless of whoever or whatever you choose to believe or not believe in. A few years back I read a quote that said ‘great songs aren’t written, they’re rewritten’, and so I really took my time with this song to get it to where it is now. I initially wrote it back in 2016 from a female’s perspective, and since then it’s changed title twice, been transposed three times to better suit my voice, and the lyric sheet has been rewritten maybe about four or five times.”

With a strong musical foundation built and established over many years, it’s clear Miles is one to watch out for as an artist in his own right if this latest single is any indication. Nach der Schauspielausbildung und Rollen u. a. in der ARD-Serie „Mordkommission Istanbul“ wurde der schweizerisch-türkische Künstler an der Popschule Berlin, der Sängerakademie Hamburg sowie der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste ausgebildet. Neben Auftritten als Tänzer für Madonna und Robert Miles veröffentlichte er eigene Tracks und performte im Berliner SO36, beim Christopher Street Day in Zürich sowie auf dem M4Music Festival, wo sein Demo in der Kategorie „Best Pop“ nominiert wurde. Sein Track „Pehlivan“ war auf der Compilation „Listen to Berlin“ und für den Publikumspreis nominiert, das dazugehörige Video war in der Auswahl für „Bestes Musikvideo“ des Filmfestivals Basel. Zuletzt war er als Schauspieler in der Amazon-Serie „Für Umme“ zu sehen.

Ferhats Songs entstehen in Berlin, Zürich und Istanbul, er arbeitet regelmäßig mit Kollegen wie Jovanka von Wilsdorf (u.a. Laing, Tim Benzko, Annette Humpe) oder Songwriting-Koryphäe Masen Abou Dakn zusammen.

Emmanuel Mathew who goes by the stage name Eminel is an Afro-fusion artiste with a plethora of musical influences. He infuses these influences in his songs. When he is not doing this vocally, you find some glimpse in his random poignant posts on social media.

If Eminel says he is from the street or Zanga (shout out to Durella), please believe him. You feel the street vibes in his sonic delivery. No, swear words, just a dude representing the underappreciated part of the society. He is proud of this.

In January 2021, the Yaba College of Technology student released his second single which was titled 9 AM. A feel-good and mellow tune that screams self-appraisals.

9 AM was a step up from Turn Up which was released in October 2020. On Turn Up, you have Eminel on a cruise mode, enjoying a lavi da local lifestyle while he urges the fans (girls) to come along for a good time.

THE PAPER SEA is the solo project of Jared Matt Greenberg, cornet player and keyboardist for the post-rock quintet Whale Fall. Greenberg was a founding member of 1990s San Francisco shoegaze band The Rosemarys and teamed with Charles Wyatt to form Charles Atlas in the early 2000s, as well as playing with John Vanderslice, Dart, Sutro, An American Starlet, Carta, and others.
