Steve Reich, Erik Hall – Pulses
(Spotify)

For his version of Music for 18 Musicians (Steve Reich), Erik Hall performed every part himself, using instruments he had on hand. He recorded one section a day, one layer at a time in live, single takes, painstakingly cobbling together a loving interpretation of Reich’s 1976 masterpiece of minimalism. It marks only the second time an artist has tried tackling the seminal piece by his or herself.

Xylophones from the original score became muted pianos, violin became electric guitar, and the pulsing rasp of the bass clarinet was constructed on the Moog synthesizer. Room mics captured the air around each instrument. “Of course my version would be fundamentally different,” he explains, “but I didn’t want the differences to be distracting or gimmicky. I wanted it to be true to the timbre and spirit of the original recording,”

The new ambient drone album of Sundrugs it starts with a heavenly atmospheric scenery and moves on to a tribute about Kursk capturing perfectly the tension and the drama beneath. Liberating all feelings in a crescendo end, where anything in past is in doubt and questions for the future on the rise with no excuse for today.

Choral ambience to close out the Displacement Activity EP. Described in the review by At The Barrier: "Concluding the EP is the epic Middle Distance, which returns us to an ecclesiastic setting, taking the organic beauty in a choral harmony and crushing it with feedback well before our love can be soured. A ghost of the choral resonance remains to see out the piece and the record."

tEEonE – 30kilo
(Spotify)

First track from album “Inceptio”. It starts of in a very dystopian mood that gradually changes through the track, and a very radical change happens little over the halfway marker that brightens up everything. Still, things are not completely resolved which is a theme throughout the album. The track is mostly played by hand using analog synths and analog drum machines.

BPMoore – Galvanised
(Spotify)

BPMoore’s Galvanised is an ambient/electronic instrumental piece that unfolds from a suspenseful drone and pulsing synths into sparkling piano lines, lively drums, and melodic string parts. Soft felted piano riffs shimmer a stirring and hopeful introduction, before a spirited drum groove creates an energetic foundation for the subsequent evolving layers of string and synth parts. The piece is extremely compelling both melodically and texturally, and is quite unlike much of the popular ambient music today that focuses solely on subtle shifts. While the music retains a similar sense of nuance and ebb-and- flow, the composition itself is quite intricate, somehow achieving the perfect balance of ambient and interest.
Galvanised is the “part two” to London-based Ben Moore’s most recent single, From All Who Came Before, the title track on his upcoming album Komorebi. The two have been mixed so that there is no discernible break from one song to the next, and Galvanised brings a sense of completion to the delicate and expectant atmosphere set by the first. In Ben’s own words,
“Galvanised is feeling that moment of anticipation and the release that (finally) everything has just locked into place for the positive.”

Daytuner (Moai System)
Interview

Nagamag:
What are the genres that describe better your music style?

Daytuner (Moai System):
Ambient, Downtempo, Psydub, Chillout, Cinematics

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

Daytuner (Moai System):
As a music producer, from classical background (15 years of violin and music school) to electronic music for more than 30 years, I feel so grateful because that gave me great opportunities to meet, learn and work with amazing artists from all around the world. I recently decided to get FULLY involved in the music industry and my band (Moai System) already released several Eps and singles with different indie labels including Nutek Chill since December 2017. I'm also the manager of a webradio (Pranamusic Radio) specialized in promoting electronic music for 2 years.

Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

Daytuner (Moai System):
I was 6 years old, and I was watching a concert of Yehudi Menuhin playing a concerto of Brahms for violin. The sound mesmerized me totally, and from this moment I knew my fate was emotionnaly linked to music.

Nagamag:
What attracts you in the electronic music production ?

Daytuner (Moai System):
The alchemy of sound and composition. Pushing the frontiers of imagination, while working with evocative sounds and mixing harmonies.

Nagamag:
Philosophical question : According to your experience, what is the "essence" of creativity in music terms ?

Daytuner (Moai System):
Difficult question, but I would say that a music composer and an artist in general has this skill (gift) which makes him/her able to receive (consciously or not) these higher vibes and to interpret or translate them with emotions linked to his/her personal history in that world.

Nagamag:
Most artists have a favorite song from a different music genre than the one they are producing music for... Which is yours?

Daytuner (Moai System):
Club Des Belugas "Save A Little Love For Me"

Nagamag:
Of Course Nagamag would love to listen also which track from a similar artist you admire?

Daytuner (Moai System):
Hinkstep "I Guess My Heart Got Carried Away"
