Elliot Cole: Bloom ft. Jordan Dodson, Gabriel Cabezas, and Stas Chernyshev (Video)

Categories: Neoclassical, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“The patterning of Elliot Cole’s amazing piece in four parts for guitar, cello and clarinet is inspired by digital delay audio effects, only played live. It is an experience, rather than just a piece of music, one that demands the full attention of the listener. The guitar playing is at times sublime, the percussive range of the cello is on full display and the clarinet completes the trio to perfection.”

-Nagamag.com

Bloom is a fast and intense trio for guitarist Jordan Dodson, clarinetist Stas Chernyshev, and cellist Gabe Cabezas (Paul Simon). Its patterning is inspired by digital delay audio effects used in electronic music production, but with the echoes all played live. It’s the opening set of my album Nightflower. (It’s 1 piece in 4 parts — all one track on YouTube, but broken out into 4 tracks on Spotify.)

Artist shared few words with Nagamag behind this inspiration:

"This is the second part to a three part release I have created. The concept behind the music was to remove the separation between my ambient captures and musical compositions by physically recording it all in the same space.

You can see from the cover photo that I put a piano on a beach in order to capture the sounds I wanted. If it is of interest to you you can also view the video that I created via the below link. https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/560284194 " - Arrowsmith

Joshua Carlton – Remember me as light (Video)

Categories: Neoclassical, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“Field recordings and gentle piano soothe the listener in Joshua Carlton’s Remember Me As Light. An evocative piece that lulls the listener gently as it weaves it’s calming magic. The track feels agonisingly brief, but that only adds to its mystery and allure. ”

Artist shared few words for the story of this song with Nagamag:

“This is the closing song from my full length album titled moonlight under the black flag. I really love the gentle nature as the piano slowly grows and the ambience takes over With a sudden stop into nothingness.” – Joshua Carlton

https://www.facebook.com/JoshuaCarltonMusic

Oregon instrumentalist Joshua Carlton toured the world with post rock band This Patch of Sky for the last decade. This lead him to compose music for television and film such as ‘Brand, a Second Coming’ (a documentary film on actor Russell Brand and his battle with drug addiction), and the Vice channel. He has also been featured in the McDonald’s Ramadan commercial, as well as large brands such as Petco. Joshua’s excited to share his new solo project. “This is an album that I absolutely had to write” he says of 2021 debut ‘Moonlight Under the Black Flag’. Joshua was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in February of 2020 and found solace in purging his emotions through the music he was composing. “This music is truly my heart, and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed creating it”.

Franco Esteve – Apocalypse (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Neoclassical, The Latest|Tags: , , , , |

“Franco Esteve has delivered on the titles promise in the aptly titled track, Apocalypse. Unsettling and thought provoking, Apocalypse is an exploration in dissonance and contrast that weaves and twirls as it moves towards its sudden conclusion. A piece worthy of our current uncertain times.”

-Nagamag.com

Apocalypse is the title track to the short film, Apocalypse, The Doll Chronicles, part of The Doll Chronicles series. It’s a contemporary classical crossover piece that encompasses the essence of the film and communicates that post-apocalyptic sense of alarm while soothingly traveling through that landscape.

Innocenzo Genna – The Girl With the Pearl Earrings (Spotify)

“Well that's not the usual Neoclassical piece. "The Girl With the Pearl Earrings" took years to get its final form and it worthed the effort! Inspiring piano melodies with melancholic taste that can prove the great power of affection existing in such work. "Innocenzo Genna" surely knows how to attract our attention.”

-Nagamag.com

Artist shared few words behind this inspiration with Nagamag:

"To tell the truth, this composition is not about the painting of Johannes Vermeer, only later I realized that the title could create some confusion. However, it was too late, all the listeners believed that it was my personal celebration to the famous portrait and I accepted. To complete the story, the inspiration for this music emerged in the last days of July of 2011, while coming back from Patinoire, a place in Brussels where expats, most of them Italians, are used to meet for aperitivo, chatting and dancing. Clearly, I met a girl wearing pearl earring, a person who would have changed my life for a while. The leit motiv of the composition emerged during the night, however it took some months to get up to the complete version. A good friend of mine told me that this is a tormenting, heartbreaking music reflecting the consequences of meeting the girl ..." Innocenzo Genna

Artist shared few words with Nagamag behind this inspiration:

"This piece was recorded on a remote beach in the north east of the UK. It is a live performance on a piano that was fully restored and rebuilt by myself. The piece is entirely improvised around a family that were on the beach together whilst I was recording, I found myself inspired by their happiness and tactility in a world that is currently so sad and disconnected. https://vimeo.com/560280474 "

In Love & WAR – Lament For What We’ve Lost (Spotify)

“You have repeatedly heard the expression; the music treats the body and soul. -Lament for What We've Lost- is among those songs, that can make the people happy. If you are in a state of depression or stuck in life problems, such music makes the world brighter. With this charm and bliss you can finally be yourself.”

“Вы неоднократно слышали выражение - музыка лечит душу и тело. -Lament For What We've Lost- в их числе и делает нас, людей самыми счастливыми. Находитесь вы в состояние депрессии или погрязли в жизненных проблемах, подобная музыка делает мир ярче. И какое же очарование и блаженство, когда расправив крылья ты можешь быть самим собой.”

-Nagamag.com

This original instrumental piece is an elegy to mourn all of the people, places, events, and sheer time that we have all lost as a result of the worldwide coronavirus pandemic in 2020. It was meant to be sad and haunting, but still colored by a ray of hope for the return of better, safer times. "Lament For What We've Lost" was initially commissioned by Tosca Rivola for her incredibly beautiful and moving short film about 2020, "2020ism."

Music written by Koi Anunta / In Love & WAR
Violin/piano performed by Koi Anunta / In Love & WAR
Mixed/mastered by Ali Nikou / Blaster Master Productions

Koi Anunta is the founding and sole permanent member of In Love & WAR (#ILAW). She is a Yale graduate and medical doctor who gave up medicine to pursue her love of music full-time in Los Angeles.

Koi was classically trained in piano since the age of 4 and violin since the age of 8, and has perfect pitch. Despite her classical roots, she is heavily influenced by iconic bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Garbage, Portishead, Massive Attack, and Tori Amos.

"Lament For What We've Lost" is the newest, all-instrumental release for ILAW (Nov 18, 2020). Koi wrote, played, and produced all the piano and violin on this track. It is a haunting elegy for what we have all suffered and lost in the past year, but with an uplifting ray of hope running throughout for better times to come. The accompanying YouTube music video here (https://youtu.be/u-4Q7-cyyqg) showcases placards of many major 2020 events, including #BLM.

Although Koi has since contributed strings or keys to countless other artists’ recordings as a professional musician, and always continued to write songs for her own personal benefit, she never felt completely comfortable showing anyone her original work or singing solo in public until 2018, when she met a Capitol Records producer in Los Angeles who insisted on hearing one of her private song demos. His unwavering belief in her talent encouraged her to rediscover her voice. Thus, the debut In Love & WAR EP, Tessitura (2019), was born as the result of essentially a lifetime of melodies and lyrics that were always held back in fear—until now. The six songs on Tessitura represent a search for identity, love, meaning and truth in a world full of uncertainty and deception. It is an elaborate, yet desolate soundscape that is part trip-hop and part symphony.

Koi performed all the vocals and played/programmed all the instruments on Tessitura with the exception of the drums (Mike Diggs), and on the track “Tell Me You’ll be There,” guitar (Jake Faun) and flute (Ricky Berger).

Tessitura was produced by Koi Anunta, mixed by Ali Nikou, and mastered by Andrew Balogh.
