“Through stunning visuals, DEADLIFE with his new song together with Tessa Hedrick hypnotize us into his dark epic synthwave bassline and the heartwarming vocals of Tessa gives a memorable blend. Partly goes melancholic yet steps also in darker places through its lush harmonies. ”

Hailing from Manchester, UK, DEADLIFE is set to confirm his status as one of the most vital artists in the burgeoning darksynth scene with an eighth full length album this November. Before that, though, the first single ‘Her Broken Smile’ offers a magic glimpse into what to expect from this assured studio wizard. The stunning new single follows acclaimed past releases including ‘Singularity’ which crashed into the Billboard Electronic Album Sales Chart at #12, as well as hitting the iTunes chart in 2020. The new single again explores a darker niche within the wider synthwave scene, and is inspired by cyberpunk imagery, 80s sci-fi films and turn of the millennium computer game soundtracks. DEADLIFE a.k.a. Ed Hawx has proven to be a hugely prolific artist over the last few years. Across seven full length albums, he has helped to drive the synthwave scene forwards with a particular penchant for the shadowy end of the spectrum that has become known as darksynth. The former drummer is a self-taught producer with a real mastery of his machines and software, which has seen him become one of the most exciting and influential names in the scene. Some try to make comparisons to leading artists like Sebastian, Com Truise, and Kavinsky, but DEADLIFE goes his own way, building on the traditions of Vangelis, Underworld and Daft Punk and taking them far into the future with his own sense of style. The sound of DEADLIFE appeals to anyone who loves dark melodies and hard-hitting electronic beats.

DEADLIFE’s music has always appeared on NewRetroWave, the leading label and YouTube channel for the synthwave scene. Since day one, NewRetroWave has championed the retro synth-driven sound and every significant artist in the scene has released on the label at some point. It continues to expand and drive the fast-growing genre’s evolution through a skillful A&R process and now entertains over 1 million loyal followers on YouTube.

The formidable new single ‘Her Broken Smile’ is DEADLIFE’s homage to an 80’s power ballad featuring singer Tessa Hedrick, a well-regarded metal vocalist who hails from Nevada. Her vocals are angelic here as they float way up top above a jagged synth bass and darkly emotive atmosphere. The breakdown allows the purity of Hedrick’s voice to shine through, off-set by the pixelated melodies and crashing, maximal beats. The whole track is expertly produced and captures a sense of emotional turmoil that everyone can relate to.

Next single ‘Drift’ is to follow on October 23rd before the full album in November 20th, and already this single suggests DEADLIFE is in the form of his life.

One day, these two young men accidentally found a formula. They found a formula that could make the two of them nod their heads. They call it “The Nodding Frequency.” They decided to apply this formula to their musical work called Quencyland.

But something was missing, the two of them weren’t quite satisfied with their jobs, they thought “The Nodding Frequency” needed to be shared with the rest of the world.

Then the music album entitled “The Nodding Frequency” was born.

Will their goals be achieved? Can people all over the world enjoy the secret formula?

Only time will tell ..

“A wonderful vocal synthwave track for all the retro hunters out there. World Away Remix by Andrei synth layering touches with the sweet warm vocals of Vanela which tickles your ears gives you quick back all the innocence of 80s. ”

-Nagamag.com

Andrei Busuioceanu first met Vanela while touring the UK with his band, RDGLDGRN, back in 2013. They sparked a connection through their mutual love for European Pop, a genre which they are both heavily influenced by; Vanela being Italian and Andrei, Romanian. In February, Vanela released her debut single ‘World Away’, a sweet yet quirky pop song about long distance love. Andrei had the idea to transform it with a synth-wave feel, particularly inspired by the soundtrack from the movie ‘Drive’. The remix brings out the depth of the lyrics and takes the listener on a retro yet futuristic journey. This collaboration may be unexpected but it’s the nostalgic dive we need right now.

Andrei Busuioceanu’s musical portfolio has never quite fit into any category. From electronic, to indie and hip-hop, the Romanian-born artist has been bending genres in the same ways his biggest influences taught him. A member of RDGLDGRN, alternative hip-hop group championed by fellow Virginians Pharrell Williams and Dave Grohl, Andrei branches out with his solo project, exploring a unique sound.

Code Elektro Interview on Nagamag

Categories: Features, Interviews, Synthwave Interviews, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

Photocredit: Rolf Meldgaard

Nagamag:
What are the genres that describe better your music style?

Code Elektro:
Synthwave. Dystopian Science Fiction Atmospheres, Neon Skylines and eternal Cyberpunk Nights with Acid Rain. That’s Code Elektro. And now it’s live with a real band. Code Elektro is characterized by the use of analog synthesizers and sound design. It sounds similar to the soundtracks of movies like Blade Runner, Stranger Things and TRON: Legacy. However, it also takes a step forward to create something new via sound design, visuals and storytelling.

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

Code Elektro:
I'm an artist, composer, sound designer and musician. I have always been playing in bands as a bass player. For 10 years I was writing music for commercials and TV - and I built my own studio and got into sound design and synthesizers. After some time I wanted to write my OWN music, and that's when I started Code Elektro.

Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

Code Elektro:
Absolutely. Iron Maiden - "The Number of the Beast". That changed my life. I was 10 years when I heard it and it just sounded so awesome. And I have always been inspired by Iron Maidens cover art. Today I try to reach the same level of excitement in music.

Nagamag:
Can you tell us a little about your live show?

Code Elektro:
I played a live show earlier this year at a live venue in Denmark (Radar). The place was packed and it was an awesome night! I recorded the show and it sounded so good that I wanted to share it...so now there's a new single out (N30n). It was important to me to have a live band. I didn't want to be another artist standing on stage with just a laptop playing tracks. So I invited a drummer and guitarist. And it really adds to the groove and gives it an awesome live feel.

Nagamag:
Favourite Sci-Fi book?

Code Elektro:
DUNE by Frank Herbert. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming DUNE movie by Denis Villeneuve. Fingers crossed that it will be awesome.

Nagamag:
Most artists have a favorite song from a different music genre than the one they are producing music for... Which is yours?

Code Elektro:
Rammstein "Deutschland"

Nagamag:
Of Course Nagamag would love to listen also which track from a similar artist you admire?

Code Elektro:
Daft Punk Tron Legacy

Code Elektro – N30n Live 2020 (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Blogwave, The Latest|Tags: , |

A Live Synthwave/Retrowave recorded at a full venue February 2020. Code Elektro performed with a live band (drums and guitars).
By listen this you revive the live moments of pure synth pleasure and rich in emotions. A wonderful emotive performance.

Few words about Code Elektro:
Dystopian Science Fiction Atmospheres, Neon Skylines and eternal Cyberpunk Nights with Acid Rain. That’s Code Elektro.

The music is characterized by the use of analog synthesizers and sound design. It sounds similar to the soundtracks of movies like Blade Runner and TRON: Legacy. However, it also takes a step forward to create something new.

Code Elektro is one of the most critically acclaimed synthwave / retrowave bands out there with thousands of listeners and placements on the big playlists - fx Spotify's RetroWave / Outrun editorial playlist.

Code Elektro was founded by the Danish artist, Martin Ahm, as an artistic platform for Martin. The main focus was the creation of mental images in the listener’s mind - from drama to excitement to beautiful atmospheres – and to create the music that he likes.

Martin Ahm has also been working professionally in music and sound design for almost 10 years. Collaborators include big commercial brands all over the world.

The previous records were very well received by critics and synthwave fans worldwide and all were nominated for a GAFFA AWARD for Best Danish Electronic Release (2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019). The Danish Music magazine, GAFFA, gave TRIADS 5 out of 6 stars and called it: “World Class Synthwave from Denmark”. Code Elektro is music from one sci-fi fan to other sci-fi fans.
