Veteran Detroit-raised/LA-based indie singer/songwriter Alex Winston’s new cover of Mac DeMarco’s classic “Watching Him Walk Away” will be included on a forthcoming EP of “anti Valentine’s songs” coming Feb 2023, which will also include covers of Charli XCX, Magnetic Fields, Daniel Johnston, and Field Medic as well. Alex’s version of this song takes Mac DeMarco’s original and ups the tempo a bit, adds some fun strings & new instrumentation, and maintains the dreamy, chill, relaxed, pensive, indie pop vibe.
From Alex: “I’ve always loved this song because it so accurately captures a unique yet common heartbreak I think a lot of us have experienced, which is the loss of potential or hope. Some of the most impactful relationships I’ve had have been the briefest, but it can leave you feeling unjustified or embarrassed for grieving them.”
