“Taideteos kahdella hämmästyttävällä instrumentilla, pianolla ja Thereminillä. Kaunis konsepti, harmoninen rakenne ja erittäin unenomainen ilmapiiri tehdään täydellisesti. On vaikea määrittää, mistä aloittaa analysoitaessa niin paljon kekseliäisyyttä, sellaisten eeppisten kuunteluhihtojen kappaleiden kanssa.”

Noted Helsinki-based film and television composer and thereminist Kepa Lehtinen is about to make waves again with the release of his latest piece “Suru” on November 1st, 2023. It’s a brief, meaningful rumination on grief that uses melody, space, and a minimalist approach to speak directly to the human soul.

“I’ve noticed that the happier I am, the more sad music I make,” says Kepa. “There are interesting shades of sadness. Grief is not bad. In life, disaster is always lurking just around the corner but grief is a medicine in itself.” The title of the work is the Finnish word for grief, which puts the track’s intentions up front for all to see. It’s a breathtaking piece of music that couldn’t have come from any other musician.

Kepa Lehtinen began life on the piano but was mysteriously drawn to the theremin, a hands-free electronic instrument invented in Russia. Its tremulous, exotic sound gives Lehtinen’s music its own individual voice that can’t be forgotten once heard. He’s one of the most exciting classical composers working today.

Lehtinen is also a sought-after film/tv composer whose music has been used all over the world. His most important new work was the music for the internationally-released television series Made in Finland/Mobile 101, now available on Disney+.

A composed for a BBC World TV series called The History of Africa, this particular piece was written to illustrate the Atlantic Slave Trade, it starts with a theme played low on harp and grows with a beautiful cello solo playing the main melody and ends on a powerful and dark re-iteration of the main theme.

Didier is a Belgian-born composer based in London, his passion for music was fostered from an early age, having come from a musical family where he was introduced to a wide range of music by his Polish grandmother.

His journey as a musician began at the age of six, when he enrolled at his local music academy to study guitar, drums, piano, singing, and composition. He also studied counterpoint, music for film and television with Berklee online, orchestration in New York with Steven Scott Smalley and learned about music production at IMW London. He’s currently still studying with pianist, music teacher and author Jonathan Walker.

Didier started his musical career playing in bands, writing and demoing songs with friends, mainly in a pop/rock style.

Progressive rock, heavy metal, pop, electronic and classical music or film composers like Maurice Jarre and Ennio Morricone have all played influential roles in shaping Didier’s musical sensibilities.

Belgium is also a mosaic of communities and he was therefore exposed to a huge amount of foreign music and styles.

Didier’s music put an emphasis on melodies, which he describes as something he would like to call “portable”, that one can carry away from a film, bringing back the feelings experienced while watching the movie. His aspiration is to touch and move people, the way that he has been moved by the music he loves.

Didier is currently recording his first solo album, set to be released later this year (2023). It will feature an original score for a story written by French author and film director Philippe Claudel (I’ve Loved You So Long, A Childhood).

His first television break came with the documentary The Lost Child (2014), written and presented by renowned broadcaster and director Zeinab Badawi (World News Today & HARDtalk), produced and broadcast by BBC World.

Didier’s most significant contribution to the world of music so far was his collaborations with Zeinab on “The History of Africa part I and II” (2017-2020) a ground-breaking series of 20 episodes. The series was broadcast on BBC World and has more than 13 million views on YouTube alone.

This was followed by the series “Take me to the Opera,” (2021-2023) for which he wrote the main theme and arranged well knowned classical pieces, the third season is currently in pre-production.

Zeinab describes collaborating with Didier: ‘He is a wonderful composer who worked meticulously to capture the spirit and authenticity of each programme”

Earlier in his career, he wrote his first original score for the documentary “Featherweight”, directed by Christophe Hermanns (Belgium 2005). Axel Tancray – Falling Leaves | Neoclassical music review

Categories: Audio, Music, Neoclassical, Spotify, The Latest, Video, Youtube|Tags: , , |

“The beautiful autumn day wakes me up with a wonderful melody full of sweetness and warmth. The yellow leaves fall lightly and remind me that winter will quickly come. If we keep the love alive in our hearts everything is beautiful again. The rhythm flows lightly like a cheerful butterfly that throws carefree while the rays of the sun come to life.”

While he dreamed of an electric guitar as a teenager, it has now been more than 10 years since Axel Tancray found himself in front of a piano and was won over by this instrument. After 7 years of piano lessons in France between the Grand-Est and Normandy, he learned to play the greatest classics of this instrument, falling in love with Frédéric Chopin who inspired him to no end. His last year of classes was devoted to the composition of his first pieces.

Since then, he has discovered electronic music and image music. In these two exercises, we find his classical and modern inspirations, with rich arrangements and complex melodies.

In 2023, he decides to return to the source and finally release his solo piano pieces. “Relief” is the first single.

Vincent Boot – Into The Woods | Neoclassical music review

“In the lost paradise, the fantastic and nostalgic melody casts light spars and brings to life hopes. The rainy winter no matter how unpleasant it is rejuvenating the ground and finds us ready for the bright summer. Our quiet rhythm drifts into paths that we have never seen before and discover an unexpected beauty.”
