Prismatic Mantis – Ball of Light (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Rock, The Latest|Tags: , , , , |

“Brilliant sound design which breaths and lush layering of many influences, acoustic instruments and synths, from electronica chill to rock and the positive sensational vocals, all together giving a strong sound experience and with listeners who love the details a place where details are full and with more listens you discover more.”

-Nagamag.com

"Ball of Light" is a sonic exposition to remind us of our unified origin. Production began in 2014 and has just been released. Self produced and refined to precise measurements, this Alt-Pop track is somehow in 15/8 and presents as an electronica chill out while also utilizing Math/Indie Rock principles. It ponders the Magical Force that this world fits within. We all share the same desire to ultimately feel peaceful, joyful, and creative. To be in a state of inspiration; in spirit... May this track reach far and wide to spread this positive message and provide inspiration to many.

The sonic vision of Prismatic Mantis, the moniker of multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer Mark Reynolds, is one that is impossible to pin succinctly down. Strongly influenced by Nature, Sacred Geometry and the Cosmos, Reynolds’ homogeneously progressive material flickers between downtempo electronica and slightly left-of-center fusion rock.

We Dream of Eden – Please Send Rain (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Rock, The Latest|Tags: , , |

“When guitars meet ambient design, filled with lush reverbs, atmospheric soundscapes and warm keys, you have this wonderful ambient theme to daydream and laid back.”

-Nagamag.com

This is the first single of an EP entitled "When Skies Meet Shores" featuring the artwork of Memphis based artist Cat Lenke who was inspired by "We Dream Of Eden" previous releases to start working with water colors in the early mornings. The song is a lament mixed with hope about the present state we find ourselves in. When the fires are raging... we can pray for rain. When the rain does comes it brings healing to the land, and life to all.

Few words about We Dream Of Eden
From the imagination of composer & producer Kirk Smith comes a project to make minimal yet uplifting ambient music. Combinations of the organic and imperfect sounds of real life blend with the precision and playfulness of modern technology. Collaborations with friends from time to time form a collective of creatives seeking peace in a crazy beautiful world. This music creates a place to think, a place to breathe, a place to dream.

PHNTMS – Carabelle (Video)

Categories: Rock, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , |

“An emotive song with heartwarming vocals and a wonderful chill harmonic atmosphere.”

-Nagamag.com

“Carabelle” radiates with emotive vocals, sweeping acoustic guitars and laid back soundscapes. “Carabelle” details the feeling you get after a toxic relationship ends and how even though there were red flags you still choose to be with that person.

Sitting somewhere between arena rock and the classic sound of 1960’s soul singers, Philadelphia based band PHNTMS creates music bursting with vast soundscapes and colliding instrumentation. Together, Alyssa Gambino, Adam Jessamine, Mikal Smith, and Gene Murphy are bringing back rock music while simultaneously putting their own unique stamp on it.

PHNTMS’ highly anticipated six-track self titled EP soaks up the band’s amalgam of influences, ranging from movie soundtracks and bands such as U2, Biffy Clyro, Kings of Leon and Deaf Havana, to powerhouse soul singers such as Amy Winehouse.

Inspired by everyday situations, relationships, and growing up, the band aims to create a feeling with which listeners can easily identify. Gambino reveals, “I think as songwriters, we try to capture these moments and make them as detailed as possible. We’ll always be fascinated by the fact we can freeze these moments…”

With half of the band identifying as queer, PHNTMS also hope to reach out to and support the LGBTQA+ community. Drummer Gene Murphy confides, “We openly talk about lesbian relationships in our music and we want to bring hope to anyone who is in the closet and doesn’t feel safe coming out. Whether you are out as queer or not, your identity is valid and if our music helps you escape heteronormativity for a brief moment.”

PHNTMS has seen success having performed opening spots for such acts as Kings of Leon, The 1975, Bastille, Fitz & The Tantrums, Empire of the Sun, Pale Waves, Emarosa, and Half Noise.

Black Bordello – Prufrock (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Rock, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“This is a deep forest of loungish grooves and harmonies through a brilliant structure and elegant vibes.”

-Nagamag.com

This song is influenced by the poem 'The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock' by T S Eliot. It's an art rock/ progressive rock journey narrative that juxtaposes modern materialist lifestyles with a more abstract philosophical perspective. Black Bordello has been described by Loud and Quiet as 'genre-defying' and 'world-building', practices that are soundly demonstrated in Prufrock.

Empasse – Ultraviolet (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Rock, The Latest|Tags: , , |

“Ultraviolet from Empasse is a post rock with electronica influences and hidden nostalgia which unfolds through its addictive laid back groove and blissful harmonics.”

-Nagamag.com

Recorded in Kirikiriroa, Aotearoa (Hamilton, New Zealand), Empasse is the musical project of Nick Johnston, a local government bureaucrat by day and musician by night. Some of Nick’s previous bands include post-rock band Sora Shima, and indie pop bands The Changing Same and Dynamo Go.

The music for Ultraviolet EP was primarily composed during New Zealand’s first COVID-19 lockdown, a creative escape away from civil defence and community recovery work during the day.

Nick jokingly refers to the musical style as ‘post-rock baroquetronica’, but it can be more simply described as having cinematic qualities… something that would not feel out of place on the big screen. The ‘baroquetronica’ aspect refers to the blend of synthesisers with an eclectic range of instruments including the Marxophone (a type of fretless zither).

“My musical background is mainly in pop and rock bands, so when it came to creating electronic music, I was not very familiar with how to manipulate synthetic sounds” says Nick. “Rather than manipulating the sound of the synthesisers, I ended up blending synthetic sounds with organic sounds to create new instruments and textures”.

Nick describes the tracks as a “soundtrack to a story that is not well known in New Zealand outside the Waikato Region where I live” – the story of the town of Rotowaro, a former mining village that was entirely removed in the 1980s to make way for an opencast coal mine. The mine fuelled the Huntly Power Station, the largest thermal power station in New Zealand which has been identified as responsible for over half of New Zealand’s carbon emissions from electricity generation.

The evocative cover photo for Ultraviolet EP was taken in 1985 by David Cook, a photographer who has spent nearly four decades recording the effects of the coal industry on Rotowaro and Rāhui Pōkeka | Huntly.

“Ultraviolet is about the damage and wounds that we cannot see – in this case, it is the rural communities that have battered over many generations to grow and power our larger cities, as well as the carbon emissions damaging the health of our planet.”
