The Paper Sea – Centésimo Saudade (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Neoclassical, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“-Centésimo Saudade- like a morning flower; only the rays of the sun will slip through the thickness of the clouds, as its petals bloom and celebrate the arrival of a new day. A wonderful symphonic composition filled with light. A striking example of the fact that behind dark clouds lurking certainly illuminating everything around the sun.”

“-Centésimo Saudade- подобную утреннему цветку; только лучи солнца проскользнут сквозь толщу облаков, как его лепестки распускаются и празднуют пришествие нового дня. Прекрасная, наполненная светом симфоническая композиция. Яркий пример того, что за тёмными тучами непременно скрывается озаряющее всё вокруг солнце.”

THE PAPER SEA is the solo project of Jared Matt Greenberg, cornet player and keyboardist for the post-rock quintet Whale Fall. After experiences touring the world and placing music in film and television, Greenberg comes home with THE PAPER SEA: intimate instrumental music recorded in Los Angeles, grounded in piano, laced with synths and organs, strings, and horns, and resonant with childhood memories, wistful moments, and lasting love.

“The dark atmospheric ambience holds a promise of danger, a suggestion of encounters that could take place at any time. The percussive elements reinforce the ever building air of playful suspense. A perfect backdrop for a game of jocular, yet sinister magic, mystery & suspense. In parts reminiscent of the classic Final Fantasy. ”

This track was composed for the background music of the levels of the fourth world of the “Magic Twins” video game. These levels are visually represented with a shadowy forest at the background. This is a version of an earlier song in dark mood. It had to represent the delirious, fun and joking attitude of the protagonists of the game. This song is designed to be listened to in an infinite loop.

“Magic Twins (The Original Soundtrack) is the soundtrack of the video game “Magic Twins”. It’s a cooperative arcade puzzler featuring two cute witches that must stop the Colormageddon they unintentionally unleashed.

Njordlyd 'Circles' is a magnificent mellow yet dark ride

here is a long story to this track. It all started with a combination of a few sounds, which to me has a sort of “circling” effect. However, the sounds also reminds me of a magnificent “Circular Ride” (dark ride) from an Amusement Park in Copenhagen (Denmark) called “The Flying Trunk" (in Danish: Den flyvende Kuffert) and consists of a “continuously-moving” chain of vehicles (trunks). During the ride, the visitors pass several scenes displaying/depicting fairy tales from H.C. Andersen. The beginning and the end of the track resembles boarding and disembarking.

Everything in between resembles various “scenes” or “rooms”. How the “scenes” or “rooms” are interpreted is entirely up to the listener and is not necessarily meant to resemble the fairy tales from the “Circular Ride”.

I have an emotional connection to this track. Tivoli is a place I visited pretty often with my family. The attraction opened in 1993, the same year my mother was diagnosed with cancer. She died in August 1995, and this attraction is one of many strong memories connecting to her. This was not really what I imagined at the beginning of the process of making this track; however that is how it developed. Recently featured in the Songwriters Music Journal

“Happy, impressive and extremely shinny Classical piece from a true artist. "The Promise" for our maximum entertainment can be fulfilled in less than three minutes' time. We really appreciated the dynamic shifts between those soft piano keys and hard guitar chords. A real excellence!”

This is an ode to all the promises we've ever made. The ones we kept but also the ones we broke. An ode to the feeling in our hearts when we made them.

Gifts From Crows – As Nature Returns (NFO version) (Video)

Categories: Neoclassical, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“Monumental epic breath comes from this classical composition. From this professional performance is obtained something unprecedented and never heard before, but definitely produces a striking impression.”

“От это классической композиции веет монументальной эпичностью, что в совокупности с профессиональным исполнением получается нечто невиданное и не слышанное ранее, но однозначно производящее поразительное впечатление.”

-Nagamag.com

In February, Gifts From Crows worked with the Northern Film Orchestra to perform 3 tracks from the debut album at Stoller Hall in Manchester. These are to be released as an e.p., ‘Northern Film Orchestra Sessions Vol. I’ and ‘As Nature Returns’ is the lead track. As the country was still under a national lockdown, the orchestra had not performed for 4 months and so jumped at the opportunity to undertake a socially distanced recording session.

The forthcoming E.P. is a stunning re-imagining of pieces from the album, ‘Holding a Thought Forever’, performed by a 20 piece ensemble, conducted by Melvin Tay and arranged by Alexander Proudlock. The NFO has a strong affiliation with the Royal Northern College of Music and many of the orchestra members are graduates of the Royal Northern.

Speaking about the session, composer Richard Laurence of Gifts From Crows says, “I’d been imagining this music being performed for so long but, with the ongoing covid situation, I didn’t know if it would be possible. Meeting the NFO was transformational in that sense and, whilst the social distancing was a challenge, just hearing your music played back to you by such wonderful musicians was an incredibly moving experience.”

Andrei Poliakov – Mermaids in the Moonlight (Video)

“Thoughts and memories deeply hidden in the mind, rise up with this warm Classical piano piece. Nostalgic moments from our past, which come into life from the hands of Andrei Poliakov. A real diamond for our ears and soul, with the moonlight glory of a tranquil night and the company of a special poem is ready out there!”

Artist shared his inspiration behind this track:

“The mermaids are rare and endangered species, they need our care and attention. They love telling old stories from our childhood, and this is what keeps them alive and happy.

Every time someone listens to this mellow piano piece on Spotify, one mermaid tells a story and manages to survive one more night. I am striving to save all the mermaids in the world, and I warmly welcome you to join me in this endeavor.”

Josephine Philip – Call My Name (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , , , , |

“There are no words that can convey the beauty of the melody from -Call My Name-. Sound smooth as the sea surface from a bright, sunny day. Sound aesthetics with their own space. You don't notice how fast are four minutes of composition and you are back to your home port.”

“Нет ни одного слова, которое сможет передать всю красоту мелодии -Call My Name-. Звучание ровное, как морская гладь в яркий, солнечный день. Настоящая эстетика звука, в которой есть свой собственный космос. Не замечаешь, как быстро проходят четыре минуты композиции и ты возвращаешься в свою родную гавань.”

-Nagamag.com

Call My Name is a song about love and longing. The longing to be together, to be important, to be held, to be adored, to be missed and ultimately, the burning longing for somebody ready to make sacrifices to save you. A respite from the ordinary terrors we often face alone. It is also a song about staying strong under unbearable conditions and finding strength in loss. The insisting and mesmerizing vocal - equally strong and fragile, is accompanied by a sparse and dreamy composition with trippy drums. It pushes and pulls with the raw strength of the tide. Immersive and confident, the song engulfs you and carries you away.

Singer, composer and performer Josephine Philip lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Her work is influenced by a multitude of artistic expressions; choir works, contemporary art and performance, jazz standards, experimental music, film, literature and classical music. Call My Name is the first single from Josephine Philip as a solo artist.

Philip began working on her forthcoming album during the winter of 2019 and the process accelerated in the pandemic year of 2020. The mutual isolation that many of us shared, became a catalyst for the process and both compositions and lyrics resonate the personal and communal experiences of this period - cycles of intense being, joy, despair, love, frustration and careful optimism, shattered by pessimism, and then briefly relieved by hope.

The songs are written and produced in collaboration with Copenhagen based producer and musician Lasse Martinussen.
