Harry Nathan – Frontin’ Me [Official Music Video]
(Video)

Just recently we were treated to the lo-fi psychedelic sounds of ‘Sweet Release’ by Australian artist Harry Nathan. That single also came with word of his upcoming sophomore ep and this week he is giving us the next taste of that ep with this chilled late-night groove, ‘Frontin Me’.

Harry Nathan delivers another fine example of his smooth lounge / disco house inspired music that washes over you in a warm nostalgic flow; imagine the bright neon lights passing you buy as you cruise through the streets of Los Angeles on a warm summer’s night.

“The song was recorded into a 1984 SONY M-10 microcassette recorder. I wasn’t really sure what I was singing, I was just jamming and mumbling, stream of consciousness kind of thing. When entering this kind of trance, my lyrics tend to reflect unsurfaced emotions, and it wasn’t until after I had finished recording that I realised the song was about people that are fake, putting up a façade trying to impress all the time.” – Harry Nathan

To help bring this track to life Harry teamed up with a few of his mates recently to shoot a quirky visual accompaniment. As Harry explains below, he did have a general idea going into this shoot but like all great things it took on a life of its own and went in a completely different direction…

“We made the video with our mates, actors Odeya Rush, Ryan Lee and Christian Valderrama. The original idea was for me to perform the song, though it quickly evolved on the fly to me being on an ambiguous red carpet, being interviewed by Tammy. I entered a trance that took me back to my fourth-grade sleepover.” – Harry Nathan

‘Frontin Me’ is available everywhere now via French tastemaker label, Kitsuné.

Der Waldläufer Interview on Nagamag.com

Nagamag:
What are the genres that describe better your music style?

Der Waldläufer:
Soundscapes somewhere between Ambient | Chillout | Downtempo

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

Der Waldläufer:
Since 2010 I released 4 albums a few singles and I appeared on many compilations like Café del Mar, Klassik Lounge Nightflight, Le café abstrait, World Chill - Lounge, Cool off Chillout, Autumn Time, Spring Chill and many more. In my productions always the relaxation of body and mind stays in the focus, in harmony with my inner feelings I tell my impressions with the help of music and paint pictures with the colors of sound. My organic music always should be a counterpoint to hectic, work & stress. You can say, that my music is the result from the finding of inner peace and tranquility. This process is always accompanied by the dialogue between nature and technology, which creatively affects me while composing. I would like to take the people on a trip to soundscapes, where it is possible to slow down the everyday life.

Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

Der Waldläufer:
Music always played a big role in my live, there were a few moments why I started composing music. It began very early with DJing and collecting Vinyl and then in the 90ies I discovered Hip Hop and fell immediately in love with creating sounds, composing music & being creative.

Nagamag:
Most artists have a favorite song from a different music genre than the one they are producing music for... Which is yours?

Der Waldläufer:
Curtis Mayfield "Move on UP"

Nagamag:
Of Course Nagamag would love to listen also which track from a similar artist you admire?

Der Waldläufer:
Boards of Canada :Dayvan Cowboy"

Chronixx, Kabaka Pyramid – Same Prayer
(Spotify)

Chronixx provides a pillar of strength and hope on “Same Prayer,” a benediction that carries a universal message throughout life's ups and downs. Fellow Jamaican lyricist Kabaka Pyramid complements the song with a verse echoing his sentiment. Following “Dela Move,” “Same Prayer” is the second reveal from Chronixx’s upcoming sophomore album Dela Splash, which is slated for release later this year. The Zion I Kings produced track is available now via Soul Circle Music and will feature an accompanying visual next week.

The song rings true with today's tumultuous times, "There’s so much good in the world and still evil a lurk. In the darkness a night, Jah protect I and I from the ones who nuh care about the fact that we share the same air and the blood that we bleed is alike," Chronixx laments in the third verse. The powerful message follows in the chorus, "and when I troddin in the streets today, please Jah Jah never leave my side. And everyday the same prayer I say and I’m saying it one more time. Trodding in the streets I pray Jah Jah beg yuh please, never lef I an I, oh never leave I an I."

Chronixx explains, “Same Prayer is, in part, a prayer for the younger generation to reflect on internally. It’s also a reminder that there is a greater power directing things in the physical space. Instead of looking for solutions in our material lives, we can both reach out to this higher power and look deep within ourselves.”

Branches is an upbeat, hopeful song - and the instrumental is a perfect cinematic feel. The song has atmospheric effects and a driving beat. Producing in his home-studio, David May has made this track for his newborn daughter, and the lyrical version tells the story of his new perspective on life as a father.

Wuwu – Twisted Vines
(Spotify)

The seed of this track started in the bedroom of Kristen Gradwohl and Thomas Howbert, and was recorded on GarageBand through a simple USB microphone. Mixing/Mastering engineer(Marcus Wade) along with collaborator/multi-instrumentalist(Alec James) took that seed and grew it into a luscious, and dreamy garden. It's short and sweet, unique take on neo-soul, and jazz-indie music. And though WUWU music is always hard to pigeon-hole into one genre, this song is an outlier even amongst this eclectic artists repertoire.
