“Pleasant to the ear Neo-Soul song with elements of Funk music, a distinct melody of bass guitar, occasional keyboards and warm vocals that sound very sincere, giving goosebumps. An original piece that should definitely become a part of your favorite collection.”

“Приятный на слух Neo-Soul с элементами Funk музыки, отчётливая мелодия бас-гитары, эпизодические клавишные и тёплый вокал, который звучит очень искренне, до мурашек. Оригинальное произведение, которое непременно должно стать частью вашей золотой коллекции. ”

fika, Bambie – Love Like Mine (Spotify)

“Imagine yourself behind of a car wheel, runing through the city streets at night... but all this happening in bright colours. Truly a great sound, appropriate for your imagination and concentration on its melodic power and charming vocals.”

“Представьте себя за рулём авто колесящим по улицам ночного города, и всё это либо в ярких тонах. Поистине великолепное звучание, в сопровождение вашего воображения и концентрации на мелодичной составляющей и очаровательном вокале.”

“Love Like Mine” is the latest single from Sam Hutton and Al Wreaves AKA South-London soul duo fika, collaborating with songwriter, vocalist and artist Bambie, taken from their upcoming “Coffee & Clouds” EP. Co-produced by Berlin-based producer Fabich, “Love Like Mine” (out 30th September) is an elevated groove as slick as the Isaac Hayes sample at its heart. fika’s previous singles and EPs have seen the duo garner support from the likes of Jamz Supernova (BBC Radio 1Xtra), Jess Iszatt (BBC London Introducing) and from Spotify’s New Music Friday UK, Chill Vibes and R&B UK playlists.

“Love Like Mine” muses on the idea of a toxic crush; the feeling of really liking someone despite knowing they’re no good and undeserving of the love. Laced with the self-affirming hook from which it takes its name, the track centres around a section of spoken word from Bambie, offering a modern spin on Corinthians infamous “Love is patient / Love is kind” extract. “It’s a beautiful poem that almost feels iconic. Simply couldn’t believe what we were hearing when Bambie wrote and performed that section to us”, fika add.

The release follows single “How Can I Love? (When I Can’t Get Away From You)” taken from the “Coffee & Clouds” EP (out 4th November) from fika and Bambie, co-produced by Fabich. “He’s a bit like the Godfather of fika”, the duo explain, speaking of their relationship with the producer. “He’s been a massive inspiration and taught us a lot. He was one of our very first collaborators and we’ve never looked back since. We met Bambie through Fabich They’re long-term collaborators and we always wanted to work with them. The EP was created in the first couple of sessions we all did together”.

With a sample of Isaac Hayes’ “The Later It Gets” (sample cleared through Tracklib) at it’s core, the added key changes, beat kicks and a lazy bassline of “Love Like Mine” come together to form an old-school Hip Hop sound. “We built the foundations of the beat together with Chris (Fabich) on the day he arrived.” fika recall, “the following day when Bambie came we fleshed it out as they wrote and recorded all the verses and chorus’ in 30 minutes, which was absolutely insane to witness”.

Stemming from a two-day session between fika, Bambie and Berlin-based producer Fabich, the “Coffee & Clouds” EP explores “the peaks and troughs of toxic feelings”, looking at the beauty and ugliness of love, stemming from a cathartic emotional outpouring for Bambie. The EP expertly balances nuanced musicality with generously open song writing. Speaking of the pleasure of the collaborative element of the project and the admiration they have for Bambie’s songwriting, fika muse: “by the time we made a beat, Bambie would have written most of the song and performed it back to us. We’d get this one magical moment of listening back to our song, for the very first time, in real time”.

fika’s ever-growing community of collaborators and irresistible releases has seen them perform at the legendary Ronnie Scott’s and garner support from BBC presenters Phil Taggart (BBC Radio 1), Jess Iszatt and Abbie Mac (BBC Radio Kent) and from the wider radio community including Jyoty (Rinse FM) and El Train (Soho Radio). The duo have also seen press and online support from the likes of TRENCH, Indie Shuffle, Notion, Acid Stag, Beautiful Buzz, Somewhere Soul and Discobelle. A project born out of collaborative joy and mutual admiration; the “Coffee & Clouds” EP is set to further cement fika’s place as a one-to-watch in the realms of Neo-Soul, Hip Hop and Contemporary RnB.

“The quintessence of this track is splendor in its purest form! A chic idea, which very successfully combined Funk and Pop Rock. Energetic, bright and very charismatic vocals instantly create the right mood. There is a slight breeze here, an unusual and memorable song.”

“Квинтэссенция этого трека великолепие в чистом виде! Шикарная идея, в которой очень удачно совместили Funk и Pop Rock. Энергичный, яркий и очень харизматичный вокал мгновенно создаёт нужное настроение. Присутствует какое-то лёгкое дуновение ветерка, необычное и запоминающееся произведение.”

At a time when the whole world is stuck at home, creative musicians actually be grateful. At what other time, do you have so much time to produce songs, write lyrics and think about your projects. Eric had massive issues with this statement: “I missed my band and the live sessions a lot. I write a lot of material, but first and foremost I am someone who has the most fun on stage or in the rehearsal room ”

After a very contemplative album, the Upper Austrian wanted to go back to his musical roots and have fun with music. It was all about getting creative in the home studio.

Eric listened to a lot of music from the Motown era: Stevie Wonder, Prince, old Michael Jackson albums. The kind of music that made him feel like he was in a jam session, even if he was just sitting alone on the electric piano or guitar.

When Eric started to write, the return to the English language came naturally. Since his hit “Get Alive”, Eric has been almost exclusively German-speaking. But, when it comes to the fun of making music, the simplicity and ease in phonetics, it is just easier to do this in English. And, it also was great for his record company based in Munich and Nashville. So Eric is back at writing more international works and introduces them by releasing the funky soul pop track “Getting Pretty Loose” as the first single on his next album.

The track pays homage to Prince, one of the artists who shaped Eric the most. “Getting Pretty Loose” is simply meant to convey the feeling that Eric had when he bought his first Prince album. The driving groove, edgy Fender Rhodes sounds, funky bass lines, and then Eric's distinctive voice spiced with a fine twang.

“Getting Pretty Loose” is the perfect appetizer of his upcoming album that puts Eric Papilaya's greatest qualities as an artist first: Passion and Entertainment!

“The track that is able to influence anyone, even the most selective listener! A little funk music in our days may well expand your multidimensional space. The instrumental part is interesting and combined with high-quality sound. A real time machine that travels back to the 60-70s!”

WINDOW SEAT [OFFICIAL VIDEO] by HOT MUSTARD (Video)

Categories: Jazz, The Latest, Video|Tags: , |

“For each emotion, experience and exceptional talent which contributed to -Hot Mustard- in order to write such a miracle like -Window Seat-, we should thank and wish to create more. We strongly recommend watching the same video clip too. It’s just a fairytale!”

“За каждое переживание и эмоцию и за исключительный талант, который поспособствовал -Hot Mustard- написать такое чудо, как -WINDOW SEAT, хочется поблагодарить и пожелать творить ещё, ещё и ещё. Настоятельно рекомендуем посмотреть одноимённый видеоклип, просто сказка!”

-Nagamag.com

The dynamic instrumental cinematic funk/soul duo, Hot Mustard, is proud to announce the release of their debut album, Mother Sauce, on Eddie Robert’s (New Mastersounds) Color Red label. Drawing influence from mid/late 1960’s and early 1970’s funk and soul, the building blocks of first generation boom bap hip-hop, multimedia artist and guitarist/producer Jack Powell and bassist Nick Carusos successfully work their own distinctive flavors into classic recipes with Mother Sauce. Simply put, Hot Mustard is as retro as it is radical, and the end result is nothing short of intensely addictive. Track by track, the debut album offers an unpretentious, yet decadent menu of sonic flavors, effortlessly weaving chopped dry-aged drum arrangements with buttery bass lines, twang infused funk guitar licks and 70’s synth-inspired string nostalgia, all while retaining the time-honored, refined sense of taste that made labels like Stax and Atlantic Records household names. Fueling the record throughout is Big Brass Beats, the all brass horn section out of Brooklyn, NY, featuring horn parts written and arranged by Grammy-nominated trumpeter Jordan Mclean (Antibalas) with Dave “Smoota” Smith (TV On The Radio) holding down the trombone.

“The collaboration with Jordan and Dave ended up being an essential part of the album. When two different worlds collide, sometimes it can be messy, but other times it works in unique and interesting ways. With this record, it felt like we had created something strange and special, while keeping it fun and refreshing,” explains Powell.

On August 20th, Hot Mustard’s second single, “Window Seat,” will drop on all streaming platforms. Accompanying the single is the animated video, a delightfully odd tale created by Jack Powell who goes under the artist moniker of Opus Thimble. HM’s unique musical vision becomes consummate with the addition of Powell’s Monty Pythonesque visual animations. “The video, to me, is basically ‘a day in the life of a creative introvert’. It’s one of the days in which you get the win, so to speak. I try not to indulge much of what the video means to me personally because I think that it’s important to give the viewer an opportunity to apply it to their own life in the way they feel it.” says Powell.

Accomplishing timelessness in any art medium is always the gold standard, and with Window Seat, both sonically and visually, Hot Mustard has accomplished this and more.

“Sweet classic rock sounds with funky grooves. This track has attitude and kicks the door wide open. ”

-Nagamag.com

The song is about a person who takes the expression “you are what you eat” way too seriously. In order not to become someone else the person eats oneself and also offers others to take part of the smörgåsbord. Swedish listeners can probably hear the musical reference to one of Jojje Wadenius most famous children’s songs.

Slower side of Mid Tempo, or faster side of Ballad. This is a “love gone wrong” Torch Song in a Soul/Funk vein. Add a Tenor Sax solo just to get the point across.

“Norwegian composer, guitarist Jon Thorstensen has gathered around him a band of superb musicians to deliver this modern day Jazz / Funk classic. Positively oozing with quality, ‘Secret Place’ is everything you would expect from such an accomplished ensemble. It’s creative, inventive it’s familiar and above all, it’s class.”

-Nagamag.com

Secret Place is instrumental jazz created by the Norwegian composer and guitar player Jon Thorstensen. The reminiscence of Steely Dan might come to mind in the harmonic language and the interplay between guitar and horn section. Inspiration comes from different musical sources for instance guitar slingers like John Scofield, Mike Stern, Jim Hall and John Abercrombie to The Meters and Earth Wind & Fire.
