“Musical accompaniment that is strongly stored and remains in memory for a long time. Guaranteed listening pleasure. Emotional lyrics, melancholic performance and rhyme firmly combined with life-affirming chorus.”

“Музыкальное сопровождение сильно запоминается и остаётся в памяти на долгие времена. Удовольствие от прослушивания гарантировано. Эмоциональная лирика, исполнение и меланхоличная рифма прочно сочетаются с жизнеутверждающим припевом.”

Australian expatriate singer-songwriter Larissa Tandy now calls Vancouver home and after moving to the city 6 years ago, she tuned in to the sounds of her new neighbourhood to write her new single ‘Sirens’,which is out today on all digital streaming platforms.

“I wrote ‘Sirens’ while living on the Downtown Eastside during the opioid crisis with sirens constantly blaring around me,” says Larissa. “It’s in the key of E, which kinda works for most sirens in Vancouver and makes them a kind of background harmony. I started writing a lot about emergencies, drawing on my experiences with them back in my hometown in Australia. It has a population of 600 or so, a rural environment, so there’s a lot of what I think of as ‘natural drama’. As in, nobody seems to die peacefully in their sleep. It’s always some tragic, violent accident, or people just head out to work one day and don’t come home at night.”

‘Sirens’ is the first in a series of singles set for release in 2021, recorded during an extended stint of living and working in Nashville: “I recorded these songs at my friend’s studio, and we pulled the session together in less than 24 hours,” says Larissa. “I just wanted to get good, vibey players in a room together, and especially wanted a bass player and drummer who work together a lot, so we invited the Jons (Estes and Radford), then tapped Dan Knobler and Ryan Brewer for guitars and keys. We tracked the songs pretty much live.”

The following day, Tandy drove to Memphis and recorded Motown legend, Jack Ashford (Funk Brothers, Marvin Gaye), adding his iconic tambourine sound to the songs.

From her humble beginnings in rural Australia, raising herself on stolen Aretha and Patti Smith records, Larissa has mined her difficult life for potent stories and spun them into songs that made their way onto radio in America, the UK, and Canada where the CBC ordained them as “songs you need to hear”. Within a few short years, she has doggedly beat a path for herself, touring relentlessly across Canada, Australia, and the US, and playing official showcases at Kansas City’s Folk Alliance, and Nashville’s Americanafest.

Larissa’s debut album, The Grip, was released in 2017 and spent 4 months on the US Americana charts, reached #2 on the Canadian college radio chart, and attracted praise from almost every corner of the globe. Awards followed, namely the prestigious Nashville Songwriter Residency, which she used to carve out a place for herself in Nashville’s competitive writing scene. Tapped by artists for her tough affect and muscular writing, she jagged a number of cuts in her first year in the game, which secured chart positions in Australia and the UK.

Larissa Tandy’s new single ‘Sirens’ is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more info, please visit https://www.larissatandy.com/

Becoming Young – Stand Down (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Rock, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“-Stand Down- is filled with vibrant, crisp melodies. It combines a minimum of electronic effects with a maximum dynamic of acoustic guitars. A soft, melodic singing is the highlight of this surprising musical journey!”

“-Stand Down- наполнен живой, бодрящей мелодией, в которой сочетаются минимум электронных эффектов и максимум динамичных акустических гитар. Мягкий, мелодичный вокал является изюминкой в этом удивительном, музыкальном путешествие!”

Becoming Young’s Brandon Calano grows wiser on exhilarating, epiphanic, and episodic pop album, The Songs I Wrote You

The popular saying goes: People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. There are also those people who saunter into your life for one night, but you spend a lifetime reeling from the connection. For award-winning pop artist Becoming Young (Brandon Calano), one crisp and cool summer Colorado night he met someone who seismically shifted his superficial bro-ish trajectory. The fallout from this millennial fairytale of emotionally reckless romance became his sophomore album, The Songs I Wrote You.

“All of the songs are letters to ‘her.’ The record follows a jovial, funny, turbulent, draining, haunting, and, ultimately, hopeful story about two people who never should have met, but ended up in love,” the Nashville-based artist says with a good-natured laugh.

The eight-song collection was written as the captivating drama played out. The Brandon of the album opener, “Reverie,” isn’t the same Brandon as the closer, “Stand Down.” “I could never have imagined or planned the twists and turns this album takes. It’s one hell of an emotional roller-coaster,” he says.

The listener savoring the salacious saga from the sidelines can immerse themselves in the excitement via the record’s experiential episodic release schedule as a series of singles that begin releasing in January 2021. These one-song installments boast liner notes on the cover artwork—seemingly, the first of its kind—revealing the story behind each song’s lyrics and how every track fits within the overarching narrative arc.

Parallel to chronicling a period of intense growth and introspection, this body of work also marks artistic maturation. This is the album where Brandon defined the Becoming Young aesthetic. It’s a vibe best described as the feel-good folk-pop of Vance Joy and the dark grandeur of Dermot Kennedy, injected with the euphoric pop sensibility of Lauv and the fiery emotionality of Matt Maeson.

Brandon worked with three different producers on The Songs I Wrote You, including Ryan Hadlock (Lumineers, Vance Joy), Austin Shawn (Sony/BMG), and producer John McVey (Yonder Mountain String Band). In addition, Brandon co-produced and produced some of the tracks himself. The Songs I Wrote You was mixed by John O'Mahony (Matt Maeson, Coldplay).

The story goes that in the summer of 2018, at the apex of Brandon’s Feeling Single fury, he threw a welcome-home party for a close friend. She brought along a mysterious and intriguing girl. The new pair didn’t hit it off at the party, but spurred on by alcohol and late-night antics, they kissed in the backseat of their mutual friend’s car.

It was a blurry opening salvo, but the duo clarified their connection the following week with a proper date. The romantic reconnaissance was a success, and Brandon subsequently wrote the folk-pop gem “Reverie.” With emotive keyboard atmospherics, stately string touches, and back-porch acoustic guitar strums, Brandon sings, bursting with joy. One choice redemptive romantic passage is: But I saw the light in her face, the love in her heart and the way she made/One of my darkest days turn to a memory of grace as she kissed me and said, Boy I think you'll be okay.

The drama begins on the second song, “No Strings Attached,” where the weary and reluctant twosome decide to redirect their connection to something of a casual encounter. The song’s chill verses are offset by explosive choruses, reflecting the pent-up energy from sublimating feelings. On the haunting emotional centerpiece, “Addicted,” he shares his forbidden love struggle with rich and sensual low-register vocals. On the very next song, “Silent Words,” Brandon has a powerful moment of clarity, realizing he’s in too deep.

The record concludes with “Stand Down,” a poetic and courageously vulnerable pop track that manages to be moody and anthemic, without being sappy. During the song’s bridge, Brandon sings: Say it now, say it now, won’t you let in, let me in/Say it now, say something now, won’t let in, let me in. Here, he’s at the gates of her heart, boldly confessing his feelings. The camera pans out, and credits roll. We don’t know if there is a happily-ever after resolution, and it’s a little maddening. When prodded, Brandon candidly shared: “I’m already writing the aftermath record. I can’t reveal the title as it gives away the cliffhanger that comes at the end of TSIWY.”

“Lyrical ballad built on a leisurely narrative, without unnecessary emotional choruses. Full of beautiful acoustic sounds and the most important component; the vocals. Wonderful and artistic, like a refreshing waterfall which falls on the head cooling the whole body.”

“Лирическая баллада, построенная на неторопливом повествовании, без лишних эмоциональных припевов, с красивой акустической музыкой и самым важным составляющим - вокалом. Он творит настоящие чудеса, словно освежающий град водопада падает на головы и заставляет замереть на месте.”

Sophie Janna – Wide World (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“"Wide World" is a heartwarming Folk song, made to express feelings which come deeply from the soul. The ideal message to send on a person you really love. Lyrics with great meaning, unforgetable singing voice and very artistic clip that you don't want to miss!”

-Nagamag.com

Artist shared with us few words behind this song inspiration:

"'Wide World' is a song I wrote when I wanted to convince someone to stay with me in Amsterdam, instead of go home to the other side of the world. I didn't dare to say "I love you" out loud and neither did he. I wrote the song when he had left and sent it to him. A year later, a few months after the first lockdown, I stranded in France when I couldn't continue my journey to Spain. Because it was already quite late I called my friend Niko whose parents live in Paris. I stayed in Paris for a week and in that week we recorded a few songs together, which I am going to release as an EP this year. 'Wide World' is the first song! Niko and Jakes are a producer duo - forming psych pop band pecq - and have studio in Oxford together called Upcycled Sounds. I was really lucky that they were in Paris at the same time as me! The song features Jakes on synth, organ and harmonies, Niko on field recordings and Niko also mixed the track. The artwork is a print from a lino cut I made of two swans flying above a snowy landscape. The landscape is from where I grew up, the swans symbolize the theme of the song."

About Allison Ponthier

Born from the beautifully strange imagination of a wide-eyed misfit raised in the Dallas outskirts, 25-year-old Allison Ponthier’s songwriting hints at her country roots through her heart-on-sleeve storytelling and crystalline vocal work. Her lyrics whimsically portray the lucid confessions of a shy teen coming to terms with her queer sexuality in a Texas suburb much like football-obsessed town of Friday Night Lights. Ponthier’s recently released first single, “Cowboy,” from her forthcoming debut EP (Interscope Records), echoes her main mission as an artist: “A lot of my songs are about being uncomfortable in your own skin but getting to know yourself better, figuring out who you really are.”

Alas de Liona – Pages (Video)

“Very sensual and thoroughly thought-out composition, with excellent harmony and deep leading vocal performer. Very beautiful, emotional and sometimes discreet work.”

“Детально продуманная композиция, очень чувственная, с отличной гармонией и глубоким лидирующим вокалом исполнительницы. Работа эмоциональная, местами сдержанная и очень красивая.”

Pages is song 4 from Radio Astronomy EP which Alas describes as a bittersweet, ‘leaving on a jet plane’ type song, lyrics are pretty straightforward romantic, with a kind of corny, lite-philosophical moment.

www.alasdeliona.com

Alas de Liona hails from a small town in the Mojave Desert and her final year at UC Santa Barbara saw her head to Edinburgh in Autumn 2019, to complete the course there.

Having originally studied religious history and folklore at college, she had an instant affinity with the city’s striking architecture and artistic lineage.

During her stay, her main passion for songwriting and performing saw her starting to make a name for herself performing in Edinburgh pubs before the pandemic closed all venues.

Her haunting vocals, often compared to the likes of Joni Mitchell and Phoebe Bridgers, are woven through lyrically complex, rich imaginal soundscapes.

Finally, free from the rigour of academia, Alas is now fulfilling her musical aspirations, recording Radio Astronomy EP in December 2020 with producer Rod Jones (Idlewild) at Post Electric Studios, Leith, Edinburgh.

Cascade is the third track released from her Radio Astronomy EP. The song is about loss and dwelling in a painful memory. The video marks her debut as writer and director.

Gal Musette – Honeymoon (Spotify)

“There is such music, which emanates the warmth and kindness. -Honeymoon- surprisingly it succeeds that with unusual ease. Gentle, almost airy vocals -Grace Freeman- and lyrical melody will win your heart. A jewel in your music collection.”

“Есть музыка, от которой веет теплом и добротой. -Honeymoon- на удивление это удаётся с необычной лёгкостью. Нежный, почти что воздушный вокал -Grace Freeman- и лирическая мелодия завоюют ваши сердца. Маленький бриллиант в музыкальной коллекции.”

-Nagamag.com

Idealized romances were not based on reality. It is beautiful and hard to see someone for who they really are, not who you expected/wanted them to be.

http://www.galmusettemusic.com/

Native of San Clemente, California, Gal Musette sprung up as a musical project between ages 10 and 13, which is when Young musical prodigy Grace Freeman began writing piano-based lyrical compositions and performing at local open-mics. Her whimsical approach to melody-driven indie-folk and French Chanson music captured local audiences, and at 14 her music reached a wider audience as she opened for groups like The Magnetic Fields, who inspired her to write “70 love songs” in tribute to their “69 love songs.”

Gal Musette, taking her name from the French style “Bal Musette,” an accordion-based French waltz style, draws inspiration from artists like Joni Mitchell, Regina Spektor, Bjork, Cocteau Twins, Rufus Wainwright, Irving Berlin and The Cure. In more recent years, she has opened for several renowned artists such as Macy Gray, Suzanne Vega, Todd Snyder, and Donavon Frankenreiter. In October she will be releasing her debut album “Backwards Lullaby,” featuring a vocal duet with one of her musical inspirations, Rufus Wainwright. Her upcoming album explores the pangs of hopeless romances and unrequited love, what it’s like to move beyond idealized love into the acceptance of what is real and constant, as well as the cyclical nature of life and love in relationships.

M. BYRD – MORNING SUN (Video)

Categories: Rock, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“A pleasant &, harmonious blend of acoustic atmospherics that will gently transport you from the fog of awakening to the warm glow of consciousness on sunny a Californian beach. This laid back, catchy tune is also full of layers of great musicianship, not least of which are the warm comforting vocals. ”

-Nagamag.com

M.Byrd’s story starts somewhere between Amsterdam and Paris. Whilst being the tour bassist for Ilgen-Nur, M.Byrd showed the rest of the band his own demos and their reaction was what gave him the final push to focus on his solo career. Fast-forward to the end of the tour and just one single-release later the 25 year-old artist now has more than 1.5 million Spotify streams under his belt. M.Byrd swiftly forged his own path in the industry with his infectious indie neo-psych-folk sound.

The upcoming single “Morning Sun” is indeed all about an acoustic sound scape, which, however, conveys no less depth than the powerful guitar sounds of “Mountain”. The warm entry symbolizes the rising of the morning sun and at the same time lets listeners wake up in the fog.

M. Byrd himself describes the process as follows:

“Morning Sun has become a kind of morning mantra for me. The idea came to me a few years ago in the morning right after I got up and it came back to me subsequently over and over again, like a kind of entry into meditation, until I finally recorded it and arranged it into form.”

Marcel Izequierdo Torres, who also directed the first music video of the artist, takes the night as a visual guideline and in an almost mystical atmosphere features the self-confident dancer Rose Marie Lindstrøm with her own choreography.Alternating between floating and rhythmic movements, the young dancer interprets the song as a ritual awakening after an aimless search in the fog, as the desire for the redeeming breath under water.

M.Byrd’s timeless songs shine with a feeling of strength and self-understanding that can be rarely found at the beginning of a young musicians’s career – they transport the listener to the American west coast, emitting a sense of melancholic future and euphoric youth, urging them to trust their intuition and find their inner-self. “I spent many years soaking up personal and musical experiences and I’ve been learning a lot in different studios and touring situations. The music I make is thus inspired by being on the road, moving on and allowing growth to happen. I realized that the experiences on my path might also inspire other people and I hope that this will continue in the future with the songs we release.”
