Rain Worthington x Yundu Wang x Aubrey Wright – Balancing on the Edge of Shadows

Categories: Audio, Neoclassical, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“Dance of invisible shadows that balance on the edge of the abyss. Down there, the singing of the violins and the melody of the piano break every silence, helping to maintain the balance and peace of mind. A beautiful Cinematic piece.”

“Танец невидимых теней, которые балансируют на грани пропасти. Там, внизу, разрывают душу пение скрипок и мелодия пиано, которые помогают сохранить баланс душевного равновесия. Прекрасное, очаровательное классическое произведение.”

In PASSAGES THROUGH TIME, composer Rain Worthington explores the mystery of instrumental music’s ability to communicate the universality of human experiences. She invites the listener into the realm of the nonverbal to reveal our primal commonality, directly touching the heart and soul with music that is delicate and subtle, yet powerful and transporting. Worthington’s music has been hailed as “a fusion of styles—ancient, medieval modality and sonorities, modernist minimalist ostinato, and classical” (IAWM Journal). Embark on a journey through the currents of Worthington’s musical streams and the emotional forces that drive her unique voice.

Brian Field – String Quartet No. 1: II. —

Categories: Audio, Piano, The Latest|Tags: , , |

“One would like to compare the melody of the violins with the singing of two invisible, but also tangible souls, who were lost in the commotion of events that were out of their control. Feel a little tension inside. This is your heart that speaks to you. Feel something crying inside you. It is your soul, trying to reach you.”

“Мелодию скрипок так и хочется сравнить с пением двух невидимых, но таких осязаемых душ, которые потерялись в суете неподвластных им событий. Почувствуйте лёгкое напряжение внутри. Это с вами говорит ваше сердце. Почувствуйте, как что-то плачет там, внутри. Это до вас пытается достучаться ваша душа.”

Artist said about this song:

"This is one of the first pieces I composed in Brussels, after a long artistic break. This is why it is dedicated to Châtelain, the inspiring residential area of Brussels where I settled in 2011 and where I got my creative motivation back. Nevertheless, the creation of this piece was long and complicated: it was not a linear composition, rather a puzzle of a different musical intuitions merging and diverging without a clear scope. Thus, it took almost 8 months to conceive the final version. I added, deleted and modified various parts of the music, I have been struggling to find a satisfactory version. Thus, the initial part of the play was created during a single night in Châtelain, while the second part was composed in Italy during a Christmas trip. The final completion took place in January 2012."

The roots of the song came about at the start of the pandemic as Hayes was jamming with a friend.

“We were playing around with different arpeggios and different delay effects on my Moog Sub 37,” John reflects. “More just experimenting than anything else... I finally came across something that I quite enjoyed and decided, ‘why not record this?’ For a long time, it just existed as this arpeggio you hear playing throughout the song. I would revisit it here and there but never had any plans to do much. I really enjoyed it existing as just this private little piece that I could revisit here and there. Once the pandemic hit, I had a lot of time on my hands, and I decided to elaborate on it a bit. I started to add layers on my Minilogue [synthesizer] that I though emulated strings. I wanted it to be this blend where you can’t tell exactly what is artificial and what is real. This idea of the artificial world online that we dive into each day and the real world that is right out of our window being blended became something that I started to think about quite a bit. This song started to take on that form as I continued to tinker with it. I wanted there to be a blend where it becomes hard to tell where the synthesizers and the real strings begin and end, all while this arpeggio keeps dancing in the background. The artificial world and real-world meeting in music, and shaking hands."
