Josin – Traveller (Video)

Categories: Neoclassical, The Latest, Video|Tags: , |

“The “Traveller” is dedicated to the most important element on this planet; the water, its cycle and continuous flow. Smooth melodies of Classical beauty combined with mesmerizing singing, communicate the message of our absolute bond with this endless journey.”

-Nagamag.com

Josin is (proudly) an artistic exile. A nomad to the confinements of genres as well as traditional norms around lifestyle. Her second single of the year, Traveller, holds a unique, experimental ambience which her voice soars effortlessly above. Traveller isolates unusual emotions with fine-tuned production and captivating lyrical themes.

“Traveller is a about belonging, being lost and returning. Of places we wish to be able to hold on. But the cycle that holds for water, that travels from rivers to oceans to rain, might also be the way we are connected and moving in this space. Being not only surrounded but made from water, we don’t need to feel apart from anything”. – Josin

Despite developing skills in a spectrum of realms, from graphic design to accountancy, Josin felt the inevitable draw to a career in music. Growing up with opera singing parents, Josin’s own musical endeavours pushed her beyond the safety of classical expectations. After rebelling against her very first piano teacher, Josin began to tread a path where she could express her intimate emotions in a more eccentric manner.

“One of my favourite artists in recent years” – Olafur Arnalds

The depths of Josin’s music is something she’s steadily becoming known for. Her last single, The Darkness, was a weighty juxtaposition between life’s ceaseless treadmill and a stagnant feeling within. It came to an eventual recognition of light and love, no matter how immeasurable the darkness can seem. Josin’s debut album, In The Blank Space, saw her fine tune her ability to craft a sound that’s both uncomfortable and comforting, an artistic accomplishment which led to her collaboration with Kiasmos and RY X.

“It’s almost like no single drop can get lost in here. The water just reappears somewhere else and we are strangely feeling so familiar with new places and other beings. And who knows for how long we´ve been going and coming back again. Maybe, it´s for us to let go and release ourselves to the flow of these old forces in order to accept moving being part of belonging.” – Josin

Chris Roe – Cliffs – Exclusive Track from the After Love Soundtrack | BFI (Video)

“Deeply moving, this soundtrack for ‘After Love’ by Chris Roe is all about the divine performance of cellist Alice Purton. Alice takes on the main theme, her part representing the motion of the waves. The score is brilliant in its simplicity, the supporting instruments and sound effects subtly adding to the coastal atmosphere. A wonderful piece of music.”

The soundtrack to #AfterLove is out now featuring original score from award-winning composer Chris Roe.

“Scoring After Love was a dream project for me, and was intensely collaborative from start to finish,” said Roe. “Aleem and I worked closely with sound designer Joakim Sundström to blend the score and soundtrack together, and I was lucky enough to work with phenomenal cellist and improviser Alice Purton to explore how the cello could mimic the sounds of the sea and build the entire score just from one instrument.”

Roe’s music for After Love won Best Original Score at the Les Arcs Film Festival. It follows Roe’s highly praised work on Armstrong, Spitfire and Children of the Snow Land – just three of his thirty screen credits since 2014.

The immensely moving feature debut from BAFTA-nominated director Aleem Khan, After Love premiered to great acclaim at the BFI London Film Festival in 2020 and was an official selection for Cannes Critics’ Week and the Telluride Film Festival.

After Love open in cinemas across the UK since Friday 4 June 2021.

“Happy, impressive and extremely shinny Classical piece from a true artist. "The Promise" for our maximum entertainment can be fulfilled in less than three minutes' time. We really appreciated the dynamic shifts between those soft piano keys and hard guitar chords. A real excellence!”

Gifts From Crows – As Nature Returns (NFO version) (Video)

Categories: Neoclassical, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“Monumental epic breath comes from this classical composition. From this professional performance is obtained something unprecedented and never heard before, but definitely produces a striking impression.”

“От это классической композиции веет монументальной эпичностью, что в совокупности с профессиональным исполнением получается нечто невиданное и не слышанное ранее, но однозначно производящее поразительное впечатление.”

-Nagamag.com

In February, Gifts From Crows worked with the Northern Film Orchestra to perform 3 tracks from the debut album at Stoller Hall in Manchester. These are to be released as an e.p., ‘Northern Film Orchestra Sessions Vol. I’ and ‘As Nature Returns’ is the lead track. As the country was still under a national lockdown, the orchestra had not performed for 4 months and so jumped at the opportunity to undertake a socially distanced recording session.

The forthcoming E.P. is a stunning re-imagining of pieces from the album, ‘Holding a Thought Forever’, performed by a 20 piece ensemble, conducted by Melvin Tay and arranged by Alexander Proudlock. The NFO has a strong affiliation with the Royal Northern College of Music and many of the orchestra members are graduates of the Royal Northern.

Speaking about the session, composer Richard Laurence of Gifts From Crows says, “I’d been imagining this music being performed for so long but, with the ongoing covid situation, I didn’t know if it would be possible. Meeting the NFO was transformational in that sense and, whilst the social distancing was a challenge, just hearing your music played back to you by such wonderful musicians was an incredibly moving experience.”

“A beautiful, sad instrumental that features a fingerpicked acoustic guitar. So crisp and melodic, the guitar strings ring out and fill you with a sense of yearning. Speaking of strings the undercurrent of mellow, way back in the mix string instruments, really add to the melancholic ambience. For those that have played an acoustic guitar it’s that tune you had in your head that didn’t quite materialise. ”
