“If you like the action rich tool tool, rich in the sound palette and jazz - then this composition for you! The music for which God is not ashamed to give his soul, if only she was always next to you. (Automatically Translated with Google Translate)

“Если вы любите насыщенную действием инструментальную музыку, богатую звуковую палитру и джаз — то эта композиция для вас! Музыка, за которую не стыдно отдать свою душу самому Богу, лишь бы она всегда была рядом с вами.”

Free Radicals, a musical, political, and cultural force in Houston for over two decades, announce highly anticipated new album White Power Outage Volume 2. The 25-track project is the follow up to volume 1, named “Local Album of the Year” in the Houston Chronicle, and continues their quest to put an end to white supremacy.

Free Radicals’ White Power Outage Volume 1 (2020) made waves with the press, radio, and fans through its diverse sound and beautiful mix of vocalists and musicians representing shades of Black, LatinX, white, Asian, mixed, and indigenous people that make the up the culture of Houston Texas. They came together to make revolutionary music, and to demand an end to the white supremacy in the arts, culture, politics, the economy, and in their personal lives. The album received critical praise from the Houston Press, Black Grooves, and Bandcamp Daily, which called it, “…a defiant soundtrack to our turbulent times, penned in solidarity with the victims of state-sponsored violence and systemic oppression."

Free Radicals have been working on beats for the White Power Outage series for many years before COVID hit. Nick Cooper of the band explains, “As we were wrapping up volume 1, Black Lives Matter was in the streets, and we were collaborating with rappers, singers, and poets of color around the world, all experiencing the pandemic, recording, and white supremacy differently. By the time volume 1 was named “Local Album of the Year” in the Houston Chronicle, we were already in the middle of producing volume 2. The band has been rehearsing and recording on each other’s lawns, or in parks. We started recording every rehearsal and quickly cut up and looped, and sent to our collaborators to start writing for it.” The result for Volume 2 is another batch of 20 plus songs featuring a revolutionary spirit and performed on real acoustic instruments. Every Free Radicals album includes a rich mix of sax, trumpet, trombone, bass, guitar, percussion, and tuba without ever using MIDI.

The genre-bending compilation is packed full of highlights. Leading up to the album, Free Radicals released their single “Bipartisan Baby Jail” featuring Michele Thibeaux, Henry Alvarez and Karina Nistal. The single also includes 4 year old kids from Peace Camp Houston and combines singing, rap, and poetry over funk. Mutiny On The Bayou features one of Houston’s longest standing and best rappers, D-Ology, and rips open the suppressed history of Houston's 1917 massacre of Black soldiers. Checkpoint / Dompass / Hajiz sees Lindi Yeni expressing her lifetime of experience with human rights and South African apartheid to this track. Yeni is joined by Jitsvinger, EQuality, and Prince Alfarra. On Killer Bee Honey, the Next Generation, Cherria Rattler enlists her daughter Marium to re-record and expand on the track originally recorded by Cherria 22 years ago, protesting the destruction of the planet by shortsighted and greedy men. Other highlights include the Karina Nistal led “El Ritmo Contra Gitmo,” “Pokke Koebês” by Jitsvinger who nails white conquest of South Africa in Afrikaans, Karega Ani’s poem “Crystal Stare,” and instrumental track “Manifestación En El Centro Hoy.” These are just a few examples from their thought provoking politically charged album!

Free Radicals are proud to release their new album White Power Outage Volume 2 on April 8th. Come celebrate with the Free Radicals on April 30th at the Continental Club in Houston, TX. More info at https://continentalclub.com/houston#event=70661390;instance=20220430190000.

"Ser" (To be) talks about living without fears, being oneself with courage, joy, trusting that everything is for a reason and how the changes in this world are only a reflection of the changes that occur within us.

Afro-Latin percussion intermingled with piano, guitar, double bass, accordion and theremin makes of "Ser" a joyfull song who invites to live life with happiness and dedication.

Small Island Big Song – Sarbon

Categories: Audio, The Latest, World Music|Tags: , , , |

“"Sarbon" is a passionate song with a clear message against the destructive human nature. Original Acoustic sound of African style, which can leave its sign in your mind. The sea is our life source and we must protect it!”

-Nagamag.com

Artist said about this song:

"In July 2020 when the MV Wakashio ran aground on our coral reef, the hearts of all Mauritians broke along with the tank. Sarbon means (coal), and I wrote this song thinking of this moment when a ship changed our daily life. This event brought a lot of despair for our lagoons, already affected by climate change and over tourism, we were seeing our paradise burning. Sarbon is a tribute to all the people who were on the spot for months, sewing sugarcane bags, donating their hair to absorb the oil and saving as much as we can our precious marine park and the eastern coastline. To the fishermans and sea lovers, to the dolphins, victims of the tragedy. It’s a song for all the creatures on land and underwater that were mourning. The ocean is, for me, the real holy water of this world, blessing us with oxygen, food, peacefulness and wonder. I can’t imagine my life being away from the sea for too long. Being islanders, the ocean is the sound of our childhood, our mother and our greatest resource. Stop turning the holy crystal water to a water as black as coal, this is what we are shouting out to the world. "

Another powerful, transcendent song from Snatam! Sung in the sacred language of Gumukhi, the words Ang Sang Waaheguru mean, “In every cell and every limb and every fiber is the miracle of the Divine.” Deep and transcendent, the track begins with Snatam devotedly singing a poem by Guru Arjan that describes how to approach the mantra to come to a place of profound harmony and happiness. The music swells at 3:15, as the track grows into a spirited rendition of the mantra, underscored by exquisite tabla rhythms.

The world-renowned, devotional singer, musician, teacher, and author is known for her stirring, luminous voice and insightful Kundalini Yoga teachings. “Ang Sang Waaheguru”, out on Be Why Music, the track is from Snatam’s upcoming album Nirankaar, out May 13.

Snatam Kaur will embark on her Into the Light Tour in May with summer concert dates across Europe, the UK, and Israel. The tour corresponds to the release of Snatam’s 16th major album, Nirankaar, and a new Mantra and Meditation workshop series she is teaching live during the tour on Kirtan and Kundalini, her online school, and on YouTube. Snatam’s touring band includes Ram Dass (piano and vocals), Grecco Buratto (guitar and vocals), and Sukhmani, (percussion and vocals), the same extraordinary musicians who collaborated with her on Nirankaar.

An alternate version of the single will be released as a companion track on April 8, the third in Snatam’s newly launched music library, Mantra and Meditation, for students and practitioners. “Ang Sang Waaheguru Meditation” is for meditative chanting of this mantra. Snatam will teach an online workshop on the deeper meanings of this transformative mantra on April 13 at 1pm Eastern in her school of sacred music and yoga, Kirtan and Kundalini. Olga Amalie – Signe Lita

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , |

“The new single from "Olga Amalie" is clearly epic, mysterious and unpredictable. Dare to listen something out of the ordinary, driven from dynamic vocals that shift and shape so easily and fast enough to leave you breathless.”

-Nagamag.com

Signe Lita is a folk tune from the middle ages reinvented in a fresh pop arrangement. It tells the dramatic story of a bride to be called Signe Lita. On her way to get married Signa Lita stands on a hill overlooking the church, and witnesses the bridal party drowning at sea. The darkness from the middle ages lives and breathes in this mystical and catchy production, and Olga Amalie captivates the audience with her seductive and enchanting voice. Produced by Danish Hjalmar Littauer and Norwegian Olga Amalie Økland Molteberg.

Paris Combo – Cap ou pas cap

This song, for which not even for what to scold, is so much harmonious and every element, whether the instrumental component or vocals, in its places. Charm and radiance in the rays of rhythms and FRENCH POP melodies!”

“Эта песня, за которую даже не за что поругать, на столько всё гармонично и каждый элемент, будь то инструментальная составляющая или вокал, на своих местах. Очарование и сияние в лучах ритмов и мелодии French Pop!”

-Nagamag.com

Paris Combo, the French quintet Variety describes as possessing “a seemingly endless supply of catchy hooks and imaginative lyrics,” is back with a new album, Quesaco? The full-length release is their seventh studio album, but also the last recorded with the group’s late singer/songwriter Belle du Berry, who died suddenly on August 11, 2020, aged just 54, following a brief battle with cancer.

Hailed by Billboard as “a vocalist/accordionist and lyricist extraordinaire,” Belle was the beating heart of the group and her passing was a tragic loss for all those touched by her charismatic presence as a performer and songwriter during a career spanning 30 years and over 100 songs. She had been the unforgettable voice of the band’s elegantly intoxicating and joyful take on the world, her quirky, wise and often humorous songs providing a welcome antidote to the stresses and strains of everyday life. For the legions of mourning fans worldwide, who until now had been resigned to consoling themselves with the band’s nevertheless impressive back catalogue of eight albums, an unexpected and exciting parting gift has arrived in the form of the new release. Completed just before Belle died, Quesaco? is now being released worldwide on May 6 on the U.S. label Six Degrees Records.

Twenty-five years have passed since the band was founded, but it’s clear from listening to the 11 songs on the new album that Paris Combo have lost none of their magic. Quintessentially Parisian, yet timeless and international with a deceptively light touch, their music weaves together elements of Django Reinhardt-inspired gypsy jazz and Latin music, as well as exotic and cinematic influences, and is a testament to the group’s long journey together.

Four years after their last album Tako Tsubo, Belle and the group’s core members, David Lewis on piano and trumpet, Potzi on guitar and François Jeannin on drums, are joined by Benoît Dunoyer de Segonzac on bass and Rémy Kaprielan on percussion and vocals. Right from the outset we recognize Belle’s whimsical take on life in the title she chose for the new album — Quesaco?, an ancient Provençal expression, which might be translated as “What is all this?,” or “What’s happening?” and which lends a charming, old-world nuance to her questions about the mystery of existence.

It took Belle’s talent as a poet of the everyday to think of using the computer’s keyboard space-bar as a metaphor for all that’s missing in our lives. It took her keen eye and her joyful heart to capture the simple splendor of a couple’s stroll along the banks of the Seine. It took her playful imagination to visualize a “pole-dance” between the North Pole and the South Pole. And Belle knew how to shift the familiar and lend to it an air of mystery:

Outside, a strong wind is blowing

Outside, the night is still falling

Leaving us here, at twilight,

At the hour of the moon’s rendez-vous

Rendez-vous with a sun, who couldn’t care less.

Despite its seemingly prescient references to confinement and the current state of the world, in fact this album has nothing to do with the lockdown or the pandemic or our present anxieties. The album is “Covid-free,” written entirely before all that. Work began on it in 2019, with Nicolas Repac — the artist and producer had already worked with Paris Combo on their Remixed album the previous year. He collaborated on two songs, “Quesaco?” and “Panic à bord,” and these became sonic templates for the album as a whole — a rich and free sound, with perhaps more tension than on previous albums. In the end, the album, produced by David Lewis, is a seamless combination of live studio performances, with some tracks assembled from recordings at the group’s studio in Paris.

Paris Combo had a U.S. tour booked for March 2020, but with France at a standstill, this period was instead spent recording final takes in the basement of Belle and David’s home, just south of Paris, with trumpet, ’cello and Belle’s vocals completing the album. All that remained was to sort through the takes, finalize the arrangements, choose between the finely nuanced vocal performances and then meticulously assemble the whole.

Then, in the early summer, Belle received her cancer diagnosis. Courageous to the last, she chose the running-order of the songs and listened to the final mix. She loved it.

Her sudden illness took her from us far too soon but it did allow her just enough time to know she had succeeded.

Quesaco? was the album she had wanted to make.

Following the release of Quesaco?, concerts will be held in Paris, at the New Morning, and in Belle’s native Berry region, bringing together fellow artists, friends and fans to pay homage to her remarkable career as a singer, poet and composer.

“Natural acoustic sounds and a measured vocal performance envelop every listener. Music that shows your path like a guiding star, music that comes straight from the heart, music that heals from any adversity and helps find yourself.”

“Мелодичная партия гитары и обволакивающий всё нутро размеренный вокал. Музыка — словно путеводная звезда определяет твой путь, музыка, которая исходит прямо из самого сердца, музыка — как способ излечиться от любых невзгод и найти себя.”

-Nagamag.com

“Karma” is a sublime musical journey of the soul seeking love. The emotional notes of the flute dance through paradise and sounds from the natural world envelop the listener. The opening notes of the flute and the sound of rain spilling over sand yields to the storyteller’s voice transporting us into paradise

“As the sun rises to another day paradise not far away We embark on the journey to a land where spirits blossom in ancient sand In light of love, all four directions drawn to call forth the medicine wheel of life, Love, Create, Celebrate"
