Tassia Zappia – Like Ooh (Spotify)
“Sultry, smouldering & unique. Three simple words that barely scratch the surface of the fabulously multi-layered talent that is ' Tappia Zappia.' This lady can switch from rich, syrupy down low hum to a vibrant falsetto with consumate ease. The already captivating performace is significantly enhanced by an immaculate instinct for feel & arrangement.”

Earning critical acclaim and enchanting fans around the world, Melbourne singer songwriter Tassia Zappia shares a cheeky and catchy new single entitled “Like Ohh” via Republic Records. Listen to “Like Ohh”— HERE. https://tassiazappia.lnk.to/LikeOohPR
Tassia comments about the new single, “During a writing trip to LA I met a new guy and we really hit it off. After I went back home to Australia, I just couldn't get him off my mind. “Like Ohh" is a sexy, playful song about craving a person knowing you may never see them again. I had the best time making this with my collaborators Lauren Christy, Jon Levine and Entente.”
Translating the tension of a long-distance relationship into a classy bop, the track seesaws on a simmering beat, jazz-y piano, and warbling organ as she croons, “Think it’s crazy we never kissed, tasting my whole body except my lips.” Her vocals flutter from soulful verses into a show-stopping refrain punctuated by impressive runs.
Currently, Tassia has hunkered down in Sydney in quarantine, but her voice has reached audiences everywhere, nevertheless. She continues putting the finishing touches on her debut EP— coming soon. For now, she’ll make you say, “Ohh”.
Tassia Zappia, Italian born in Melbourne, doesn’t gloss over the little things in her music. She approaches her lyrics with a keen eye for detail only amplified by her show-stopping delivery, outsized vocal flare, and free spirit. Listening to the Australian singer and songwriter can feel like being in the room right next to her during some momentous turning point.
As a kid, Tassia discovered Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, and Frank Sinatra through her parents, developing an appreciation for “super old school classics.” Feeling like an outsider, she turned to poetry and music. By 12-years-old, she began writing songs. She discovered Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill and incorporated all of these inspirations into a raw, unfiltered, and soulful style. In 2019, she took a trip to Los Angeles for a music camp that wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. Instead, it “felt like Fyre Fest,” but she ended up with her first break, nevertheless. After performing her original composition “When I Was Four” during a visit from chart-topping songwriter Heidi Rojas [Little Mix, Cheryl Cole], she left the audience in tears. Rojas asked for Tassia’s phone number, and they met for coffee a few days later. The following day Heidi took Tassia to a session with Lauren Christy, formerly of The Matrix [Avril Lavigne, David Bowie, Dua Lipa, Bebe Rexha, Rihanna], and this led to Tassia signing a development deal with Heidi and Lauren’s production company. Along the way, she inked a deal with Republic and has since released her much buzzed about singles “You Don’t Want Me” and “When I Was Four.”

Born in 1992 from Sweden. Electronic music and music production has always been a big part of my life. I make house music that tends to be melodic, progressive and organic with a lo-fi touch. My sound is ambient, spacey, atmospheric and sometimes a bit psychedelic with a lot of different types of percussions. I never think about what kind of music I want to create, I just do and it'll become whatever I was feeling at that time. I enjoy listening to music from pretty much every music genre so I'm influenced by it all.

Son of Zev Interview on Nagamag
.
Nagamag:
Which are the genres that describe your music style better?
Son of Zev:
Techno, Breakbeat, Electro, Experimental Electronica. I'm a very wide listener of all styles of music. There are many influences that get pulled into my production.
Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?
Son of Zev:
I've been involved with music since I was about 8. I struggled to settle on an instrument till I was 11 which was piano/keyboards. My school actually had synthesizer lessons and my classes were on an Alpha Juno.. That was in about 1987. I had no idea that I was playing on one of the original machines that could make the classic "hoover" rave sound..
My first experience trying to program my own synth (a DX27) was trying to make Hammond and Rhodes sounds out of it.. I was jamming blues with mates at the time as a teenager.
In 1994, after being self professed "anti sequencer" I found myself in the rave scene and loving some of the more underground sounds I was hearing (Melbourne was/is very Detroit influenced). By 1995 I was playing around with synths for synths sake, and occasionally playing as a regular guest of Melbourne clan analog band "Signal To Noise"
In early 1998 I played my first gig as Son of Zev at the iconic Punters Club, a venue I'd literally seen hundreds of bands and a handful of electronic acts. I played for half an hour, slotted into the very start of the gig. I was home. Andrez Bergen of IF? Records was apologetic for the early start and short time slot and low fee... I didn't care.
I went on to play at least 100 more shows (I lost count somewhere along the way) between 1998 and 2001, many of them with If? Records. I kept playing semi-regularly through till 1998.
Although I could put together a great live set, I was never very good at finishing tunes. Something I've since learned is most likely a product of my (very) late diagnosed ADHD..
After some big life changes, in about 2016 I set up a new studio and have released a couple of EP's and the odd single... WIth my recent diagnosis and some therapy on the horizon, I'm hoping I can channel my energies better and release a lot more music.
Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?
Son of Zev:
While not my first connection, I can remember 2 very pivotal moments..
Somewhere around 1994 I saw Jammin' Unit play a live set at Club Filter in Melbourne. It's where I truly understood that electronic music could have be very live and organic. Seeing someone working their gear like that, clearly arranging and manipulating what was going on broke my perception of a person pressing play on a computer sequencer with nothing to do.
The second pivotal moment was dancing front and centre to Thomas P Heckmann playing live and changing what he was doing according to the crowd reactions and realising I really wanted to be on the other side playing my music and being at one with the crowd like that.
Nagamag:
Do you have any new music coming out?
Son of Zev:
I have 2 releases coming in the near future. Both 2 track singles.
The first "Escaped From the Vault" is a couple of tracks I found while digging through some old boxes. Backups of a demo that really hold up today. They are of a more strictly Techno sound, dark and hard, but with a lot of rhythmic exploration. It's due out on the 27th of August on Slice Records.
The second is a collaboration with Arcane Trickster. We've remixed each other's work, these should also be out later this year on Slice Records.
Aside from those, I've been in the studio a lot, and I expect that by next year there should be some more music ready for release.
Nagamag:
You mentioned that you used to play a lot of live sets, do you still do that, and are there any gigs coming up?
Son of Zev:
Absolutely, I love playing live and still like to perform a few times a year.
Lockdowns permitting I am playing at Red Betty in Brunswick on the 14th of August for a Live Electronic Musicians of Melbourne Showcase gig.
I'm also playing on the 3rd of September at Acid Slice Presents 303 909 .. At Bar 303, Northcote.. (expect Acid)
Nagamag:
Many artists listen to genres that they are not producing music for. Which track is your favorite that is NOT similar to yours?
Son of Zev:
Jimmy Smith "Root Down"
Nagamag:
Of Course Nagamag would love to listen also which is the track from a similar artist you admire?
Son of Zev:
Joey Beltram Forklift (Luke Slater's remix)

Born and raised in Lviv, Ukraine. Started playing piano at an early age, Olexandr quickly adopted the love for music and everything connected to it. Years later - and unlike most artists that work in one specific genre, Olexandr finds himself comfortable in many, dominant of which are inspiring piano music, epic and powerful epic orchestral compositions, heavy-hitting rock and metal pieces, ambient, and a little bit of electronic music too. Golding, Cailin Russo – Boxing Underwater (feat. Cailin Russo) – song by Golding, Cailin Russo | Spotify (Spotify)
“The present indicator of musicians talent, whose genius is to create music that will not fit into the framework of a single style. Here, in -Boxing Underwater- we can find genres such as Electro Pop and Indie Electronic, but -Golding- and -Cailin Russo-, turned out to create their own special atmosphere.”
“Настоящий показатель таланта музыкантов, их гениальности - это создать музыку, которая не будет вписываться в рамки ни одного стиля. Да, безусловно, в -Boxing Underwater- присутствую такие жанры, как Electro Pop и Indie Electronic, но у -Golding- и -Cailin Russo- получилось создать свою, особую атмосферу. ”
-Nagamag.com
“Boxing Underwater” sees the pair – comprising Jay Bainbridge and Matt Bartlem – working with US artist Cailin Russo to create the uplifting, melodic single which sees razor-sharp production, slick musicianship, and clever lyrical turns coming together to create an impressive pop tune. Co-written with Jarryd James, Golding explains that its arrival is something of a special moment for the pair, having admired James’ work for many years.
“Jarryd has always been a huge inspiration and someone I’ve looked up to as an artist,” Bainbridge explains. “He’s always encouraged me to explore my musical freedoms and demonstrated the idea of ‘you can do anything’, there’s no rules in songwriting. To finally be creating in a room with him was a special moment for me.”
Likewise, Bainbridge looks at their collaboration with Cailin Russo as the missing piece that the track needed, with her almost ethereal voice managing to seamlessly lay atop a hypnotic instrumental bed, taking it from an impressive tune to a world-beating classic.
“We didn’t realise that the song could grow even more until Cailin came on to feature,” Bainbridge explains. “I’ve been a fan of Cailin’s music for years and have always had her in the back of my mind as someone I’d like to work with. Her vocals really helped set the tone and the mood of the song, all the pieces fell into place.”
With the meaning of the track itself is kept somewhat vague on purpose, the accompanying video clip adds something in the way of context. With Nicholas Stevens on filming and directorial duties, the video is a beautifully engaging piece of work that complements the track perfectly.
“It was really important to us to show varying sides of relationships, not just the good but the bad too,” Bartlem notes. “We wanted to capture the emotion of a real relationship so we were lucky enough to have real-life couple Mikalah and Zohar star in the clip, you can truly feel the love and chemistry between them as you watch the video unfold.”

Moszq – Wingspan (Spotify)
“The open skies await as we take flight. The complexity of the arpeggiators in this track are divine. A high energy creation with a deeper purpose. If you need a quick lift to the stratosphere, this one if for you. ”
