“When You Were It” by Skinny Dippers | Rock Song Review

Music Review:

““When You Were It” by Skinny Dippers drifts forward with a quiet emotional intelligence, wrapping its gentle melody in a haze of understated nostalgia. The arrangement moves with soft precision, allowing every note to breathe naturally while maintaining an intimate sense of momentum. The vocals carry a fragile sincerity that never feels overstated, translating emotion into something cinematic and dreamlike rather than merely sentimental. Beneath the track’s delicate surface, the rhythm section provides a calm but steady pulse, grounding the song in warmth and subtle optimism while preserving the hypnotic quality that makes it so quietly immersive.”

Lyrics of Skinny Dippers – When You Were It

I wanna call you up and tell you how I’m really feeling
But I’m not sure what I’d say
I could share that I still truly feel it oh so deeply
Like a punch straight to the face
But he who fights and runs away
May live to fight another day

Tie a blindfold ‘round my head I’m at the Pepsi challenge
I’m not sure what’s going down
We draw our troubles from regret and from anticipation
So let’s focus on the now
Our greatest glory’s not in rising up
‘But never staying down

I’ll forget what you said
I’ll forget what you did
But I’ll never forget how it felt
When you were it

Rolling blackouts when we’d sneak own drinks in to kickball
That’s a run the other way
Skinned your knees, you’re drawing blood, it proves that your still human
Fell seven times, but stood up eight
Playing games and losing out
It always feels like such a waste

I’ll forget what you said
I’ll forget what you did
But I’ll never forget how it felt
When you were it
