Shihori – Soul Trip (Spotify)

“Through these glorious downtempo beats and synths that fit wised in the groove and Shihori's lush vocal signature style which gives life like sunshine on earth, you get the right melodic pop medicine to remove any negativity.”

-Nagamag.com

Visionary NYC-based Pop Singer Songwriter Shihori's new single "Soul Trip", out Sept 4th, carries a profound message for our chaotic and challenging times. Pulling from her unique life experience, Shihori shows the way to de-stress when faced with negativity and self-retreat to a higher frequency by invoking the power of music, melody and positive self-talk.

On the Importance of Switching Streams.

With negativity, gossip and chaos dominating our feeds and news sources, and with all of us facing the challenges of self-isolation, it's easy to give in to the negative stream.

Shihori, who has overcome multiple disabilities (Partial deafness, Asperger syndrome and dwarfism) and even a kidnapping incident in her relatively short life, sings songs about true love (“love who you are” etc) and how to create a stronger inner life; empowering yourself so you can empower others.

Shihori made her major debut in Japan in 2007. She has released popular songs, including 11 that were Gold Disc certificated (sold more than 10,000 copies) CDs despite facing many tough experiences since her childhood.

"Sometimes I felt death very near me, especially when I was bullied in elementary school and around the time I was mentally abused and kidnapped by music management company people. What saved me at last was the idea that “Everything has both sides, there’s a light on the other side of shadow”. “God coordinates things perfectly for better life all the time”. “So, SEEK THE LIGHT SIDE”

Shihori sang in her previous single, “Perfect Imperfection” about accepting your true self and both the shadow and light in you, as an existence having Perfect Imperfection. Now she steps forward to “show you how to get your self to the good statement from the negative statement.”

After a decade of her success in Japan, Shihori relocated to US to challenge herself and seek bigger success.

"These beliefs get me to seek the good meaning of what happens to me and what God wants me to learn from the thing TO BE BETTER. Knowing that there’s always better life waiting for you, your brain will find the solution eventually.

But when you are caught by irresistible negative thoughts or anxiety, it’s good to have a list of your favorite things, which make you smile. Tasting the happiness gets rid of the negatives from your mind, then you would be in a stream of higher frequency. Eat a cute cupcake…hold your dog tight…talk to your family or best friend or lover…Or listen to the music!"

Shihori has been struggling since her relocation in NY in 2018 to get used to American culture and to adjust her established music style to the American music industry and write songs in English.

“It wasn’t easy at all. I feel like I'm surviving in a jungle literally”, she says, but still her powerful music and performances full of positive energy have stunned audiences in the US.

Navigating a Pandemic and Finding New Creative Outlets

Through the pandemic and three months of self-quarantine, she created some songs which includes the previous single and this newest single, “Soul Trip.”

"I was pretty much stressed out at the beginning of the pandemic; all the gigs were canceled, I couldn’t have the studio sessions and photo shoots. But I told myself these beliefs everyday, I tried to find the light side of this hardship. I found this could be a great opportunity to invest in a better future while I can’t be out at all. I bought some equipment, made my bedroom into a recording and photoshoot studio, learned some new skills. I looked around Soundbetter and found two very talented music producers I could work on new singles with, which was the most amazing treasure I got because of this pandemic."

The New Single

Shihori's new single "Soul Trip" is a Killian Cruiser-produced melodic pop ballad featuring her signature emotionally charged, original vocal stylings. Shihori's melodies dance lightly over downtempo electronica beats and hypnotic synths. Killian Cruiser described the track as "super modern and vibey but kinda sexy and edgy too!"

The trip is a joyful one, like a walk with a trusted friend. The message is light but profound, delivered with sweetness.

"The power of “like” is the strongest. Remember it every time you feel stressed, pick your favorite something out! Then you will find the light a bit easier. I hope that ”Soul Trip” will help you get to the higher frequency!"

Yolcu – A Hunter and the Prey (Video)

Categories: Electronica, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , |

“”A Hunter and the Prey” from Yolcu is a dark hypnotic downtempo electronica with elegant layering and a quick arp which instead of make the track “fast” it initiates more the state of hypnosis their lead warm vocals drive you. A fine dark pop theme with a beautiful video, deep emotional!”

-Nagamag.com

Anatolian-inflected art-pop and indie-electronica duo Yolcu are poised to announce their debut release with the arrival of ‘ A Hunter and the Prey’ due this September. Lifted from the pair’s forthcoming EP ‘In Stream’, the accompanying video fuses the track’s atmospheric and propulsive electronica with a meditative, exploratory landscape, offering a perfect embodiment of delicate melodies and triumphant song craft.

They detail the track: “A Hunter and the Prey is about becoming a part of a system, and how that process consumes and changes a person. It’s the way in which money, profit and industrialisation can slowly affect peoples’ personalities, like a psychological or physical sickness. It’s the enveloping relationship between employees and their employers; a hunter and it’s prey. In time, this system becomes their world.”

Yolcu first met in 2017 while studying sonic arts in Istanbul. It was an interest in the musical heritage of each other’s country that brought Dağ Taş (TR) and Joe Conchie (UK) together. Their outside perspectives helped ignite in the other an enthusiasm for the richness of their own musical cultures. Dağ, hailing from the frantic metropolis Istanbul, a lifelong fan of the British alternative scene, and Joe, from the sparsely populated, pastoral Northumberland, moved by the sound and emotion of Turkish folk music.

Before meeting, Dağ had an alternative indie rock project ‘Golden Horn’, while Joe was composing and performing folk music and producing electronic music. From 2017, Dağ took up bağlama, a Turkish folk instrument, and Joe started to compose and produce music in the vein of British electronica. During their studies they also immersed themselves in experimental approaches to sound creation and manipulation, composing and performing electro- acoustic music around Istanbul.

The excitement of bringing these musical worlds together birthed Yolcu. With songs that reflect the existential yearnings of Anatolian folk music and with an emotional authenticity summoned from the soul of the land around them, Dağ’s powerful baritone voice, ornamented with Turkish microtonal tuning, wraps around Joe’s twisted synth lines and productions, creating a unique blend of folk-inflected modern electronica and pop. Many of their songs feature bağlama and use the voice as an instrument, which, although they directly call upon the spirit of the region, are employed in a non-traditional way.

When they formed the project, Dağ and Joe set up their studio under Mount Ida, home of several Greek myths, on the Aegean Coast of Turkey. By the sea and under a mountain, inspired by the place and its isolation, there they spent many fruitful periods of time experimenting, composing and refining their sound, all the while cementing their friendship and creative partnership. This significant stage was the genesis all of Yolcu’s music and identity, and the location continues to be their home for the project.

KINGS – call me when you grow up… (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Electronica, The Latest|Tags: , , |

“The sound quality here is top noth, with the music layering tickling your ears and the fresh bright yet warm vocals of KINGS fills the gap between harmonies and beat in a perfect sync. Wonderful song both in vocal and music level. ”

-Nagamag.com

KINGS said about this song "I think we can all agree that teenage boys can be pretty immature, to say the least. So I decided to call them out and have a little fun with it. This song is one of my favorites I’ve ever written. I wanted to take a less-than-desirable situation and turn it into an anthem. “call me when you grow up…” relates to a lot of situations I’ve been in.. I was sort of talking to this boy, who thought we were going somewhere, but it obviously was not. He’s the kind of guy who would flirt with every girl he passes on the street if he could. The good thing is, I wasn’t hurt in the slightest since I definitely knew what was going on. It’s actually hilarious because even when he hears the song, he probably won’t know it’s about him. The same goes for most of my songs."

Few words about KINGS:
From the moment her dad played the “Bohemian Rhapsody”, KINGS wanted to write and sing songs that moved others in the same way. Music is not only her first language, but, also, her first love. Music is the way she communicates when words alone are not enough.

KINGS started performing at the bright, young age of three years old. From there she realized her true passion for music. She placed every ounce of creativity and energy possible into the writing songs, especially after being rejected and hurt by what she thought to be friends.

She left her small town in North Carolina, and moved to Nashville inching closer to her dream. KINGS started creating a social media presence on the widely popular platform TikTok. Not only was she establishing a footprint for herself, she created a beautiful set of songs with a three time Grammy nominated producer/composer that fully encapsulated her vision.

Years upon years of dedication and hard work have lead to this moment. The upcoming release of her first song titled “call me when you grow up…” is an anthem to a less than desirable relationship. The title says it all, and it will leave you with the words stuck in your head wanting to put the song back on to help with the earworm syndrome that this song will cause. You can find this song on all streaming platforms on June 19th.

Greater Bird of Paradise – Uriel (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Electronica, The Latest|Tags: , , |

“Listening to this song after a more layered elecronica reviewing session was like that sun beams from the cloud to the sea. The soft acoustic guitar offered directly a clean and chill listening and when the vocals of ambient folk singer "Great Bird Of Paradise" hit in, with her warm voice, my heart hover gently, like a butterfly starts her short trip to the next flower. The song is a hauntingly beautiful plea to a mythological archangel for social justice, for us a song that definately will return many times to seek its peace.”

-Nagamag.com

Hailing from Brooklyn, Sam Christopher, aka Greater Bird of Paradise, combines a unique ethereal vocal style with classic folk elements. Utilizing a mercurial wit and inventive lyrics, Sam's songs are both familiar and progressive, with sprinkles of psychedelia and ambient influence. The latest single, "Uriel", creates an aura of sublime mysticism as it tracks an internal plea from the singer towards one of the archangels of judeo christian traditon. Combining elements of classic spiritual hymn with contemporary experimentalism and attitude, the lyrics alternate from impressionistic imagery to more concrete requests for the supernatural to aid in the creation of a more just society.
