Steve Roach – Painting In The Dark (Bandcamp)

Categories: Audio, Electronica, The Latest|Tags: , , |

In this new atmospheric opus, pioneering composer and artist of the transcendent – Steve Roach explores the confluence of texture, tonality, sonic abstraction, continuity and space with a set of 6 interconnected paintings in motion. The spirituality of sound is central within these emotional landscapes with infinite horizons. In the way a visual artist mixes their colors and utilize the natural light-infused ambience of the studio to support the piece as it evolves, Roach initiated these mystical sonic states under the influence of the late hours at night. Within the shroud of natural darkness and a few low level lights in the studio supporting the creative flow, these paintings in the dark were born. Steve often finds parallels in his creative process to that of a painter or sculptor and aspired in this direction before discovering electronic music as his main form of artist expression. Painting in the Dark presents an aesthetic that is unique to Roach’s work – embracing the mystery and wonder of sound as a constant evolving companion to the ongoing bloom of consciousness.

Salar Niknafs – Point of Departure (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Electronica, The Latest|Tags: , , |

Point Of Departure from lar Niknafs is an ambient drone with deep mysterious atmosphere in a hypnotic way, while explores more the dark side of the genre yet delivers dramatic cinematic feelings.

Artist shared few words with us about this track:
"The premise of 'Lesser Lights' was to create a narration, emotionally raw and personal, hopefully the sounds come through as it was intended.

Sketches were mainly done in Melbourne tram 64, where I spent a couple of hours a day commuting. Much inspiration was found in the railway hum and clunk, as from the co-travellers in the window seat. The sound of the album although preserved for the most part, occasionally developed into sections perverse enough to be noticed.

A greater deal of inspiration was drawn from Abul Mogard, Rafael Anton Irisarri and Loscil, whose music I listened to every other day. The tracks where then recorded and mixed in an unforeseen lockdown in mid 2020."

Categories: Audio, Electronica, Post|Tags: , , |

Time is split in half. Half day and half night. Aiguille’s cohesive EP begins with the sun: “Daylight” and “Daydream”. We hear birds, running water, the globe in motion. “Day and Night”, the third track, satisfies the symmetry and sees the setting sun. The welcoming of the moon. The project’s final two tracks, “Nightfall” and “Nightglow”, expose the evening. We hear the twilight echoes. The animals active in the trees. It’s a rhythmic experience, enjoying 24 hours in under 15 minutes.

Hugar – Enigma (Video)

Hugar — Icelandic duo Bergur Þórisson and Pétur Jónsson — are prepping The Vasulka Effect: Music For the Motion Picture out October 2nd on Sony Masterworks. Their genre-defying sound is in full wide-screen focus on the new album and on “Enigma” in particular, with elements of drone, ambient electronics, and orchestral atmospherics, creating a visual language of its own.

Created from never-before-seen footage from the Brotherhood exhibition, the “Enigma” music video provides an enigmatic glimpse into the creative impulses of the feature film’s male protagonist and exhibition creator Woody Vasulka.

Regarding the film: Pioneers of video art, The Vasulkas are lifetime hackers and grandparents of the “YouTube” generation. After struggling in their retirement years, by a fluke they are rediscovered by the art world that had forgotten all about them, and people and institutions are suddenly fighting over who will represent them after they are gone. It’s directed by Hrafnhildur Gunnarsdóttir.
