Braue – The Rattle
(Spotify)

Wonderful lofi house chill vibes from Canadian producer Braue, taken from her stunning "Sleeping In Shapes EP"

Braue is no stranger around the clipp.art camp fire, having releasing her shtonking tune "Unicord" in 2019 as well as stepping up to programme the Sound Like a Good Time playlist on Spotify and contributing to our Sounds Like a Good Mixtape on Soundcloud, where she totally crushed it (biglink.to/clippart). Her tunes are that special blend of banging and emotionally charged that hits the sweet spot - influenced by her classical piano training background, an upbringing in the impenetrable rainforest basin of Vanvcouver, and her time spent DJing Berlin, performing alongside legends like Prosumer, DVS1, Daniel Bell, The Black Madonna, Steffi, and others. Now one of our favs drops her sophomore release on your favorite label: The 5-track mini-album “Sleeping In Shapes' moves through the gamut of Braue’s moody, eerily tough sonic palette. Micro flourishes emerge through the moody haze snaring you into the vibe. Release opener “Gravy Train” clangs like the best of them, swirling pads ensconce a looping vocal and full frontal 4/4/ thump, before jumping deep into the motorik motors & square bass throwback of “Spiral”. “Robot Arms” veers into more leftfield territory, from there we float off-world with the lush embrace of “Succulent” before breaking entirely free of any constraints of Earthly gravity on closing track “The Rattle”. Throughout all these pieces, the work contains elements of aquatic downtempo bordering the fringes of Chicago house, a dance party in a dreamscape setting. Music that will have you both as much throwing shapes as sleeping in them.

Kevin Kerrigan
Interview

Nagamag:
What are the genres that describe better your music style?

Kevin Kerrigan:
It's a cross between film soundtrack, ambient and classical music. I aim to create little worlds of music and sound to escape into..

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

Kevin Kerrigan:
I grew up working with artists such as Brian Eno, Bjork, and film composer James Newton Howard. These guys gave me confidence in my own work, and also helped influence my creative approach to music (as well as probably my sound). These days I mostly compose music soundtracks for film, but I also release instrumental music soundtracks as an Artist.

Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

Kevin Kerrigan:
I started making music by accident. My school had a fire, and the next day they had to throw away all the instruments. I asked if I could have an old electric piano which was in the dumpster. It was melted and looked like a Dali painting. But I repaired it and started writing little piano pieces on it. 25 years later I'm still essentially doing the same thing.

Nagamag:
Do you make any other styles of music?

Kevin Kerrigan:
Myself and Sophie Barker (of Zero 7) make music for children, called "The Rainbow Collections". We've been signed to Sony for about 15 years now and it's quite popular with young kids. It's fun to do.

Nagamag:
Most artists have a favorite song from a different music genre than the one they are producing music for... Which is yours?

Kevin Kerrigan:
Asa-Chang & Junray "Hana"

Nagamag:
Of Course Nagamag would love to listen also which track from a similar artist you admire?

Kevin Kerrigan:
Jessica Curry "Finding the Pattern"

(Spotify)

This track is part of Australian artist Wilsonn's first EP. Previous tracks have been very well supported in Australia by Triple J, Spotify (New Music Friday AU & NZ, Ready for the Day!, and more editorial playlists) and Apple Music. Like A Verb is written, produced and sung by Wilsonn himself, pushing this song in a laidback but quite energetic funky soulful track, giving Disclosure meets Jarreau Vandal meets SG Lewis vibes!
