Point Nemo: a tiny spot in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, somewhere between Chile and New Zealand, further from land than any other point on Earth. It takes over two weeks to reach it by ship. TELLL only travelled to Point Nemo in their imagination. Nevertheless, the result is an atmospheric, melancholic electro-pop song about the loneliest place on Earth.

Samedi is the stand out track from composer, producer and visual artist, Damian Boylan’s upcoming debut album ‘Rarefactions’. It’s soft steel drum arpeggios and floating white noise hum, open the track in a wistful, unrestrained, yet curious manner, while the soft driving kick drum and gently unfolding piano steadily increase that sense of yearning. Much like the song’s name, from the French for ‘Saturday’, the track dials into that alluringly familiar feeling of a well spent weekend, driven from sleepy and humble, morning-time beginnings, to a rousing, punchy Roland TB-303 & SH-101 night-time fuelled climax. Mastered by Matt Colton (Jon Hopkins, Four Tet, Thom Yorke, BICEP, Caribou), and conducted with live strings from Air Studios, London (Hans Zimmer, Ólafur Arnalds), Samedi’s rich textures merge with airy choral vocals in a triumphant crescendo, that somehow seems to sum up the full spectrum of human emotion, from the entirely hopeless to the altogether hopeful. The track is supported by an original music video created by the artist himself.
