Stella – I.L.Y.S. (Pt.2) (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , , , |

“Atmospheric, lyrical work with charming vocals and catchy chorus effect. The perfect combination of electronics, neo-soul and live instruments that you'll love from the first seconds.”

“Мелодия припева, обворожительный вокал и запоминающийся припев. Атмосферная, лирическая работа, идеальное сочетание электроники, neo-soul и живых инструментов.”

-Nagamag.com

Pt.2 is the second part to a song of Stella's called “I Love You So”. With Pt.2 closing off her debut EP, and I Love You So showing the beginning of a love story, you'll be taken through a beautiful relationship with a beautiful human. Pt.2 talks about the love that was lost, the regret behind it, and the scar that’s been left on Stella's heart. Just when you think you’re recovering from the emotion-stirring journey this song takes you on, she delivers some profound spoken word; the percussive rhythm section perfectly complimenting the poetry.

About Stella:

Out of a dark and dingy bedroom in the depths of the Black Country emerged a dreadlocked creature whose ears pricked up at the sound of twanging guitars and cracking drum beats. Galloping around, she made friends wherever she went and caused mischief along the way. She was a rebel; no care for the rules or the way things should be done. This was the beginnings of Stella.

Something of an alter ego, the name has adopted many connotations over the years, with much of her fan base unaware that it’s not actually her name...

Stella is more than a name now, more than a brand. It’s a way of life. Stella represents freedom and empowerment - the freedom to express yourself and stand up for what you believe in. Stella is finding your own way. Stella is a middle finger to the man. Stella is caring for your neighbour. Stella is joy. Stella is a party. Stella is love.

Her relationship with life has been an integral component in the sculpting of Stella’s sound. Passionate, sensitive yet dynamic, evocative and lyrically provoking, it embodies her struggles growing up in what, at times, was a cruel world. Her insecurities and vulnerabilities, her endeavours for a healthier mind and her battles with adversity are all laid bare in her songs.

Alongside these qualities she has a natural gift for writing alluring melodies and the caressing vocals to deliver them in symbiotic harmony.

If you’re a lover of honest, raw, emotive music, then Stella is for you.

To complement her natural talent, her drive, desire to progress and outgoing personality are opening new doors for her all the time, a testament to her hard work and passion.

So, what can you expect from a Stella show? Well, that’s not something that can be captured in a few words. What can be promised however is that you’ll leave with a smile on your face.

Her inspirations span far and wide and reach beyond music and her immediate experiences. As a devoted feminist and environmentalist, she endeavours every day to make the world a better place and much of her creative expression originates from this. She is also a romantic and is able effortlessly to conjure up heartfelt songs to eternalise a moment.

Some of her main musical influences include Lily Allen, Mac Miller, Bob Marley, Jorja Smith and Tom Misch. Outside of music her most significant role model is her mom, who has been there with her every step of the way, attending every gig without fail and guaranteed to be found dancing wildly at the front.

In the last few years, she has established herself as a household name on the Birmingham scene, winning best pop act at the Birmingham Music Awards in 2018, where she caught the attention of John Taylor of Duran Duran, who commended her for her performance and wrote about it on his social media pages.

She has played many of the city’s most iconic venues such as The Sunflower Lounge, The O2 Institute, and The Rotunda. She has also featured as the guest artist at the highly acclaimed jam session, Neighbourhood.

Stella has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with the likes of Kioko, Lady Sanity and Husky Loops, and was due to headline her first show for Birmingham Promoters in December. Sadly, due to the COVID pandemic this had to be postponed until further notice, but as soon as the restrictions are lifted, rest assured it’s gonna go off!

Currently she is in the final stages of studying for a songwriting degree at BIMM, which again has been rather disrupted by the virus and is now all online lectures. This did, however, allow her the opportunity to focus on her EP, with her first single, Warm and High, released last summer, making it on to a reputable playlist on Spotify. More releases to follow very soon so watch this space!

Stella does not meet societal standards, and she doesn’t want to. Her intention is to bring people together, to share laughs, spread good vibes, provoke thought, encourage the individual to challenge themselves, to question their beliefs and values, inspire them, and ultimately to create a better world for everyone.

The Secret Things – Selfie (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Rock, The Latest|Tags: , , , , |

“The vocals are truly incredible, beautifully rich & melodic, slutty, sleazy & oh so easy to fall in love with. A commentary on how difficult it is to say the right thing on social media in these difficult times & the lengths people will go to for an extreme selfie photo. ‘The Secret Things’ are a trio that sounds so much bigger & ‘Selfie’ is an impressive song by a great band. ”

-Nagamag.com

Originally developed as a simple commentary about the lengths people will go to take "extreme selfie photos," the song evolved into a discussion about how difficult it can be to say the "right" things on social media - during incredible times politically and during a global pandemic - in turn, actually saying nothing and in the case of this story, putting up a selfie instead.

https://twitter.com/SecThingsMusic

The Secret Things was formed out of friendship, a common love for playing loud, trashy rock’n roll music, and a pure meeting-of-the-minds wavelength the band has been thriving on since their inception in early 2016.

Influenced by artists like PJ Harvey and Nirvana, their songs and sound came together organically during those early jam sessions. Their debut EP, Shock Diary, was released on October 27th, 2016 via olivoiL records. The single & video “Down By The Water” released last September, accrued 119 thousand views on FaceBook & 35 thousand streams on Spotify respectively. (View it HERE). The band held a video party and benefit for the Trans Community in Los Angeles at The Hotel Cafe. Shepard Fairey donated two prints to the cause for auction, and the near-sold-out benefit distributed donation monies to their chosen non-profits, It Gets Better Project, TeenLine, The Van Ness Recovery House and TransLatina Coalition. After this hugely successful event, the band flew to Toronto to film a segment with Canadian favorite son and radio personality, George Stroumbouopoulos. The Secret Things segment for “The Strombo Show” was aired earlier this year, nationwide in Canada.

On July 6th, the trio will release their newest single “Bully” via iTunes and Spotify. Taking a turn toward material with strong political content and commentary, this track has an anti-Trump message. “Si Se Puede” the ironic hook and backbone of the Bully chorus has a timely irony that points its finger toward the unfair treatment of Mexican immigrants, the un-safe passage into the US, and newly established practices that separate children from their parents.

A satirical lyric video, directed by Sue Ann Pien, will be released soon!

The trio’s hypnotic vocals are courtesy of Cynthia Catania, a veteran singer-songwriter who has played to crowds of 100,000 with her former project Saucy Monky. She has shared festival stages with Wilco, Metric, PJ Harvey, Pink, and other contemporaries. An invitation to play with the TST rhythm section came the same week Cynthia’s partner in Saucy Monky left the United States to move abroad.

It was during the Saucy Monky era that Steve Giles, joined Cynthia as SM’s bassist, coming out of a record deal and radio hit with ‘The Lemming Song’ by 3 Penny Needle. The common denominator, Steve, also shared success with Dream Life Misery drummer Dan Nelles, who signed with powerhouse Morey Management Group (Janet Jackson, Miley Cyrus, etc.). Both Steve and Dan went on to tour New Zealand, opening for The Bangles with Canadian artist Amy Hef.

The mastermind behind TST is drummer Dan Nelles. His secret vision to rally Cynthia and Steve into a band (since 2011) finally came true in late 2016, and the three bandmates have been enjoying a spark of universal flow ever since. Their first gig in Temecula, CA, took place on a festival stage with Jimmy Eat World & Neon Trees, after winning an iHeart radio contest for the coveted slot!

LearningToDive – I’ll Smile (feat. Bravo Bonez) (Video)

Categories: Electronica, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , , |

“Instantly magnetic, is it Bowie? Is it Audience? No it’s ‘LearningToDive’ a project of New Zealand producer Bravo Bonez. Well, you can rip those L plates up for sure Bravo. ‘I’ll Smile’ is a performance of the highest magnitude. The story of a secret relationship coming to an end, delivered with consummate style & effortless virtuosity. Pure class. ”

-Nagamag.com

The single ‘I’ll Smile’ is one of the 11 tracks from LearningToDive’s recent debut album titled ‘Norwegian Pop’, which was released on the 2nd of April 2021. The single ‘I’ll Smile is heavily driven by sophisti-pop, melancholic, downtempo tones, and has been described as a cross between Blue Nile and Pink Floyd. With elements of soul, jazz and downtempo-pop, LTD mixes minor sounds from the synth/keys with sadly tired lyricism to express a story one is usually afraid to unleash.

The narrative of the track is based upon two (fictional) persons who have been in a secret relationship for a long time, but it has turned stale. The male protagonist has been fooling around and getting into trouble. His secret partner had been staying clear of him and his dalliances, and has now decided to leave him for good. He knows he deserves it. As she walks away after dumping him, he smiles, knowing it is the right thing for her, soon to also realises, it is the right thing for himself too. But he is still devastated.

Casey Sana – MALIBLU (Vertical Video) (Video)

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“This track sounds dreamy and deep. Recalls the warm summer evening atmosphere. Full of experiences and specific images that memory recall and resonated in every listener. Memories That brings nostalgia and makes -MALIBLU- very catchy for that reason. Heartwarming music with energy and originality.”

“Трек звучит мечтательно и глубоко. Напоминает атмосферу тёплого летнего вечера. Он полон переживаний и специфических образов, которые найдут отклик в любом слушателе. Это мгновение меланхоличности делает -MALIBLU- цепляющим. Музыка, в которой есть энергия, оригинальность, смысл и сердце.”

-Nagamag.com

“Maliblu is a place you go to when everyone is telling you that you’ve got it all; your Instagram shows you ‘living your best life’, but inside yourself you’re still unhappy.”

Casey Sana’s MALIBLU is a concept that takes one of the most beautiful places on earth and turns it into a backdrop of sadness. Sana had this to say when asked about the choice of the songs location:

“You couldn’t imagine anyone being depressed in a place like Malibu, I mean you’d have everything if you lived there, right? But I’m sure there are people that are unhappy, so I wanted to use the song as a metaphor for those people who appear to have everything on the surface, but are secretly hurting behind their smile.”

The bridge of the song includes the lyrics ‘when you’re living in this western spell, where you lose yourself, just to gain the world’

“The western spell is that ‘things’ make you happy, and because we believe this, we chase these material things at all costs; the cost of happiness, friendship, health and so on, then we get these things just to realise that it doesn’t make us any happier of fulfilled. it’s crazy!”

Mob Rich – Made To Fall (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , |

“Quite strong song with huge inspiration from life aspects and everyday issues, which almost all have to face. To be released very soon in the debut album of "Mob Rich", we can already consider it a successful piece of work.”

-Nagamag.com

Alt-pop duo Mob Rich gifts their fans with a new song, “Made To Fall,” ahead of their debut album release next month—listen HERE.

“Made To Fall” is the latest track to be released ahead of Why No Why on May 14th—pre-order the album now HERE.
https://mobrich.lnk.to/WhyNoWhyPR

On “Made To Fall,” Mob Rich grapples with existential thoughts and questions that so many people can relate to – something that has become signature in their songwriting – making life’s big questions seem more relatable and easier to talk about.

Mob Rich says, “This song is a result of so many conversations we’ve had with each other about our fears and doubts as we navigate our lives. It’s really about the questions of whether we start out flawed and pre-disposed towards certain pathways and behavior or whether we break along the way. While we both think that the truth lies somewhere in between those two things, this song is a result of us sitting with that question and trying to come up with the answer for ourselves.”

Earlier this spring, the duo dropped their first two singles off the album, “Everything and Nothing” and “Hell Yeah.” Beyond The Stage Magazine declared, “Mob Rich got us feeling like a million bucks with this new, bouncy track,” while Gig Goer described the music as “a slick blend of melancholy pop” and Mystic Sons called it “pop-rock delight.”

Mob Rich has amassed over 50 million-plus streams to date and received praise from Billboard, Funny Or Die, Noisey, Alt Press, Ones To Watch, and many more, with People recently proclaiming, “Mob Rich are creating ‘new anthems for the outcast.’” Following their album release this spring, the band will return to live touring this fall—first up is Life Is Beautiful Music & Art Festival in Las Vegas this September with more festivals and dates to be announced soon.

ABOUT MOB RICH

The music of Mob Rich (formerly Moby Rich) is an invitation. As much as the alt-pop duo’s sound owes to the specific otherworldly chemistry shared by Los Angeles transplants Maxwell Joseph and Connor Pledger, the charming melancholy, adventurous soundscapes, and big hooks they conjure are built for everyone. Mob Rich makes intimate and bold music destined to build a broader community with kindred spirits. These are new anthems for the outcast. The band’s full-length debut, Why No Why, is a collection of conversations in musical form, draped in an effervescent atmosphere. Careening between wry observations and sharply optimistic affirmations, Mob Rich demonstrates a commitment to artistic authenticity on the record, on the stage, and screens big and small. Straightforward hooks, with flourishes of grand theatricality, collide with existential themes and joyful whimsy. As people and musicians, Connor and Maxwell examine humankind’s inherent need for belonging, the seemingly overwhelming obstacles of anxiety and depression, and feelings of ostracization and “otherness.” The confessional nature of Mob Rich’s songs, combined with darkly comedic self-awareness, is immersive and pure. Substream Magazine observed, “there’s both a carefree attitude and some serious life discussions peppered in.” Emotional honesty and a keen sense of humor are vital pieces of the Mob Rich puzzle. The duo draws favorable comparisons to Tame Impala and early MGMT. A rhythmic punch like TØP and a swagger akin to Oasis intermingle in Mob Rich. They count Grandson, Broods, and Bishop Briggs among their collaborators and comrades. Already a staple of tastemaker playlists and radio formats with buzzing singles “Get High” and “Yoko Ono,” Mob Rich joined the Republic Records roster via the seasoned A&R maverick behind Ariana Grande and The Weeknd. Big bass and bigger drums are almost always part of the soundscape, with rich diversity built over the top of it. It was inevitable that, given the bond forged by Maxwell and Connor, Mob Rich would explore duality. They’re optimistic that the comfort and confidence they’ve found in shared strengths and complementary differences will provoke and inspire. It’s a phenomenon they’ve already witnessed in their short career and hope to expand.
