Jem – Lost

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“The new release of “Jem” can draw the line between typical and sopnisticated music. Sentimental chords of guitar accompany some of the most memorable lyrics, while the artist’s fathomless voice adds a kind of unearthly aura in the whole mix.”

-Nagamag.com

Beguiling, alluring and utterly captivating, alternative rock artist and all round mystic Jem has returned with his second cinematic single, the mesmirising ‘Lost’. Following on from the November 2021 release of the spellbinding ‘Secrets’ which marked a rare and enticing debut, Jem partners this initial enchanting entrance into the industry with the next authentic taste of his artistry.

Often writing from the perspective of another and having drawn inspiration from the incredibly moving BAFTA and Academy Award winning film, The Pianist, ‘Lost’ explores the concept of a dystopian world of a man who lost it all. Referred to as the ‘negative realm’ by the artist, Jem shares,

‘The desperation I’ve felt while watching the Pianist stuck with me until recent years, so I’ve started journaling, and the sentiments I’ve felt became real within this song.”

Accompanied again by another visual of momentous beauty, ‘Lost’ is haunting and thick with emotion, directed by Jems older brother Necip Karakas. Taking place in an ancient church, accented with gold and dotted with the warm, gentle glow of candles, a soft spotlight pierces through the windows casting a stream of incandescent rays onto Jem illuminating him against the heavy dark shadows while Jem delicately begins ‘Million years without the sun’.

Almost dreamlike ‘Lost’ is the perfect melismatic blend of Jem’s vocals and the sound of Oud (native Middle Eastern instrument). Layered with undulating electric guitars that call out into the distance as they build and grow into a cathartic release, Jem states that, “Feeling lost is a common theme; it is okay to feel like that; there is nothing wrong with it. When I say it out loud, it makes me feel better. I would want people to take this away.”

Utilising his fluency in vocal registers, Jem travels between them with an unforeseen ease and grace. Pushing the boundaries, both his head and chest voice come together in perfect synthesis creating a tone that speaks to his audience not only musically but also on a spiritual level.

It’s clear that Jem is not here simply to create music; with every release he dives even deeper within himself, each time returning with a new world to bring to the surface. Unafraid to visit places and play with intonations that may be unfamiliar, unusual or even uncomfortable for some, Jem is unapologetic in his authenticity, therein lies the true definition of an artist, one Jem lives and breathes.

“I always felt I was different. I didn’t fit anywhere. And to be fair, I never bothered to be a perfect fit for anyone or anything. Over the course, music happened to be a lens for me to share my alienation.” – JEM

With his debut EP release just on the horizon, ‘Don’t Let Me Disappear’ represents an eclectic medium of transportation whilst showcasing Jems innate ability to display sensitivity within his expression, this project serves as a delicate bridge between worlds just waiting to be explored.

“Bright and dynamic track, with exceptional plot, powerful rhythm and inimitable melody. A striking dancing hit, with its deeply genuine sound and high-quality performance.”

“Яркий и динамичный трек, со своей исключительной историей, мощным ритмом и неподражаемой мелодикой. Перед вами настоящий хит, поражающий своей глубиной, неподдельной искренностью и качественным исполнением!”

-Nagamag.com

New Zealand alternative rock trio CAPITAL THEATRE showcase a melodic and edgy guitar/keyboard-driven sound on their debut full-length album A HERO’S JOURNEY out this summer. It was recorded with Grammy Award-winning legendary producer Mike Clink (Guns N’ Roses, Steve Vai) at NRG Studios in Los Angeles, CA (along with some guitar recordings being completed at Slash’s Snakepit Studio) and lyrically takes inspiration from Joseph Campbell’s’ book The Hero With A Thousand Faces.

The band has shared a provocative music video for its latest single, “Delicately Poised,” underlining the track’s exploration of the human identity. Filmed at an adult entertainment club in Barcelona and with live footage taken in New Zealand, the video highlights authenticity and diversity. CAPITAL THEATRE co-directed the video with Bruno Amaral Pereira and Julie Gomez of Kapala Studios and also by Alex Hargeaves who shot the NZ-based content of the band’s performance. “Delicately Poised” is available March 1, across all digital platforms.

From song to song, A HERO’S JOURNEY delivers unbridled energy drawn from guitarist Roy Oliver’s electrifying solos and sequences, drummer Paul Reid’s furiously pounding rhythms and vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Adam Stevenson’s graceful and soul stirring piano work. The realm of their sound is further expanded with cinematic string arrangements completed by guest composer David Campbell (The Rolling Stones, U2, Beck) to add to its multi-dimensional otherworldly perception. Its 10 tracks reveal the undeniable chemistry they’ve honed through years of playing local pubs back home in Auckland, with A-list guest musicians including Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney and Bon Jovi lead guitarist Phil X.

The song is an ode to Texas and its big rain. Based around a bluesy rock theme that is not re reinventing the wheel but really does what it says on the tin. The solo adds grit and the ending has a captivating time change for an epic finish

Ticket to Happiness – Videosa (Video)

Categories: Rock, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , |

“Positive and very good Folk song with a light shade of the Wild West. The music is very soulful, with cozy atmosphere from the beginning to its very end. Quality production that you can listen in one breath!”

“Позитивная и очень добрая песня в жанре folk с лёгким оттенком дикого запада. Музыка очень душевная, атмосфера праздника и уюта от начала и до самого конца. Получилось очень качественно и слушается на одном дыхании!”

-Nagamag.com

“Videosa” is the last single before the album release of the German folk rock band Ticket to Happiness. A cliché spaghetti western plot, derived from a dream of the band’s singer JP, is presented together with an elaborate music video. A snottily spoken intro takes the listeners into the wild west where in a “foolish, rotten town” the protagonist Videosa is bloodily shot by the antagonist Revolver Ron. Her great love Benny rounds up his crew and seeks revenge.

The plot is supported by a fiery musical arrangement and marks a showy kickoff that is meant to be enjoyed with the winking of an eye.

The album is produced by Pomez di Lorenzo (3x ECHO-nominated “best producer”) and mastered by Marc Einstmann (Depeche Mode, Mick Jagger). We are looking forward to the album “Roaming Riders” being released in two weeks time.

Southampton’s hair-raiser trio Mystic Peach have today shared their genre-thwarting single ‘It’s Not Their Future’, as well as their highly anticipated debut EP ‘M?’, via on-the-pulse South Coast label and promoters Honeymooner. In addition to the EP comes the band’s debut UK headline tour.

“Taut, intense songwriting with a rock crunch” – Clash Magazine

“No-one has managed to capture pre-lockdown loneliness in a three-minute isolated snapshot as prevailingly as Mystic Peach” – So Young Magazine

“Mystic Peach’s vocalist and guitarist Curtis Gale’s vocals are gale-force winds of their own, smashing through waves of sound with an accelerating menace while the grungy riff antes up worryingly like the most earnest of poker bluffs, daring you to call it out” – The Line of Best Fit

“There will be times in the future where Mystic Peach will be able to purr their way through people’s ears, right now it’s all about the chaos. Please don’t stop!” – Jack Saunders

“They’re really, really good, really intense and every song comes straight from the heart.” – Huw Stephens

Having previously been selected as Jack Saunders’ Next Wave on BBC Radio 1, a track remixed by New York’s A Place To Bury Strangers and recently signed to Marshall Amplifcation’s Live Agency, 2021, despite it’s grievances, was a force which encouraged Mystic Peach to indulge in a total rebrand- a change in artistic direction which enabled the group to embrace their vulnerabilities, as they gear up to unveil their biggest work yet; a labour of love and a concoction of emotions created in pockets of isolation, that’s itching to be unleashed into a freer, more creatively lucid state of existence.

Of the EP, vocalist / guitarist Curtis Gale notes: “We’re excited to finally release our first major piece of “art”; an EP that seemed to flawlessly meet the narrative of our intentions of being open on mental health, with personal experiences turned into a short story and the regression of the protagonist’s sanity.

Though that may appear negative for us, it’s an insight of our difficulties and sharing them through our music in the hope that it helps someone out there and we can celebrate our weirdness together.”

Recorded in lockdown by George Murphy at West London’s Eastcote Studios, ‘M?’, and subsequently ‘She’s So Neat’, are two captivating examples of how banded self-progression can result in long term fluidity, and confrontationally companionate euphoria. Neither a “real” name nor a symbol of mystique but rather a self-adaptive emblem of headspaces trapped in time, and set-free in guitar based anarchy, ‘M?’ is a raucous tale of subconscious intuition that combines influences of 60’s garage and Motown/Northern Soul, with a psychological plethora of Psych-Punk precision.

Categorised manically into four key stages: ‘She So Neat’: Obsession, ‘Demon Sway’: Delusion, ‘It’s Not Their Future’: Denial and ‘Float’: Suicidal tendencies, ‘M?’ is without a shadow of a doubt a four-way trip to god knows where, and just about every corner of the mind; exemplifying Mystic Peach’ innate ability of documenting the “ordinary”, during exceptionally extraordinary circumstances.

Curtis Gale continues:

“It’s Not Their Future is denial. It’s obsession. The thought of looking at yourself in the mirror and discovering flaws. Going to the dark side of your mind to discover why you feel the way you do is sometimes too much for one human to take. So what now? Blame someone/thing to make out that you’re not the problem… that turns into obsession, unfortunately. To speak for others because you feel depressed too doesn’t mean you should. Just because an antidepressant didn’t work for one person – it doesn’t mean it won’t for others. Just because your views do not match theirs – it doesn’t mean they are wrong. It’s unhealthy for the mind to obsess, and the majority of people are obsessed. We are all unhealthy.”
