Sofi Gev – Horrors in the Dark (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , , , |

“"Horrors in the Dark" is a song that talks about our bad life incidents. Traumatic experiences deeply burried in the mind, but never forgotten. Even if we cannot erase such negative memories, we should find the strength to become unaffected from their influences. Sofi Gev sings to bring hope and somehow soothe our broken hearts. Priceless work from a real artist.”

-Nagamag.com

Artist shared with Nagamag few words behind this inspiration:

"I wrote “Horrors in the Dark” after my mother lost her brother to suicide, which was and remains unbearably hard. My uncle was a towering figure and a gentle soul, wise and compassionate. The third verse is an homage to him, who we lost far too early, and to the power of his life and legacy. His passing and the grief of all the people who loved him made me think about how we all have some kind of trauma inside of us that never fully heals. The kind of pain that is very difficult to even talk about. “Horrors” uses metaphors to convey how we dance around our deepest fears that we sometimes twist into something else entirely in our minds because they’re too painful to face head on. But these dark things in our lives are still always a part of us.

I wrote this song with my producer, Nate Pyfer (Kaskade, The Moth and the Flame, Sego), and co-writer, Chris Scharman. The strings were arranged by Stuart Maxfield (Fictionist, s2_Cool, Mr. Mental)" - Sofi Gev

Josephine Philip – Call My Name (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , , , , |

“There are no words that can convey the beauty of the melody from -Call My Name-. Sound smooth as the sea surface from a bright, sunny day. Sound aesthetics with their own space. You don't notice how fast are four minutes of composition and you are back to your home port.”

“Нет ни одного слова, которое сможет передать всю красоту мелодии -Call My Name-. Звучание ровное, как морская гладь в яркий, солнечный день. Настоящая эстетика звука, в которой есть свой собственный космос. Не замечаешь, как быстро проходят четыре минуты композиции и ты возвращаешься в свою родную гавань.”

-Nagamag.com

Call My Name is a song about love and longing. The longing to be together, to be important, to be held, to be adored, to be missed and ultimately, the burning longing for somebody ready to make sacrifices to save you. A respite from the ordinary terrors we often face alone. It is also a song about staying strong under unbearable conditions and finding strength in loss. The insisting and mesmerizing vocal - equally strong and fragile, is accompanied by a sparse and dreamy composition with trippy drums. It pushes and pulls with the raw strength of the tide. Immersive and confident, the song engulfs you and carries you away.

Singer, composer and performer Josephine Philip lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Her work is influenced by a multitude of artistic expressions; choir works, contemporary art and performance, jazz standards, experimental music, film, literature and classical music. Call My Name is the first single from Josephine Philip as a solo artist.

Philip began working on her forthcoming album during the winter of 2019 and the process accelerated in the pandemic year of 2020. The mutual isolation that many of us shared, became a catalyst for the process and both compositions and lyrics resonate the personal and communal experiences of this period - cycles of intense being, joy, despair, love, frustration and careful optimism, shattered by pessimism, and then briefly relieved by hope.

The songs are written and produced in collaboration with Copenhagen based producer and musician Lasse Martinussen.

Abc Dialect – Daydream (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , , , |

“A single made from a variety of musical techniques and tricks. Experimental and yet classic sound, thus creating a significant and of particular flavor characteristic we find in many projects in the genre of indie pop.”

“Сингл -Daydream- наполнен разнообразными музыкальными приёмами и фокусами, экспериментальным и в то же время классическим звучанием, тем самым создавая весомый и особый оттенок свойственный многим проектам в жанре indie pop.”

-Nagamag.com

“Daydream” is the third release from the group’s forthcoming debut LP titled ‘Out Here,’ scheduled for release later in 2021. The single comes on the heels of their previous release “You” which was released in March of 2021.

"Daydream" was originally recorded in 2019 alongside co-producer Daniel Nentwig of The Whitest Boy Alive. The song, along with the entire ‘Out Here’ album, was recorded live alongside a full band at Butterama Recording Studios in Berlin. Melodically, “Daydream” features smooth rhythm, soft keys, warm vocals and uplifting strings. The song feels like a sultry fireside dream pop tune with jazz influenced undertones.

Comprised of Argentinian songwriters Luca Oliva Knight and Tomas Susevich, Abc Dialect have quickly emerged as a promising independent musical project. The young beatmakers draw on their diverse musical influences (including 90s house, 70s funk, soulful jazz, R&B, & more) to craft original thought-provoking melodies that evoke a sense of emotions including nostalgia, euphoria, empathy, sorrow and more.

Towards the end of 2019, Abc Dialect travelled to Berlin to record their debut album “Out Here” co-produced by Daniel Nentwig of The Whitest Boy Alive and Kings of Convenience. The LP is slated for release later this year on Casablanca Sunset Records. Prior releases from the duo have received a variety of support online from music outlets like Delicieuse Musique, Indie Shuffle, Sidekick Music, Noon Pacific, Acid Stag, Tensnake, Disco Naïveté, Bristol Funk and more. In December of 2019, the group also shared LEFTI’s nu-disco remix of their single “Magic,” on Casablanca Sunset which climbed to #1 on the Hype Machine popular charts.

Datcha – Collapse (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , , , , |

“Interesting Pop song with Alternative influences recently released in the album of "Datcha". Melodic piano keys, very soft percussion and slow tempo. All accompanied by gentle singing voices that reveal a high level of production.”

-Nagamag.com

DATCHA is a new Boston-based bedroom-pop band from ThatOneEyedKid and Julie Friedman. T1EK and Julie began DATCHA’s debut self-titled record in the first weeks of quarantine of spring 2020 and was recorded at their home studio in Brighton, MA. DATCHA builds off of elements of dream-pop with an experimental bent, exploring themes of obsession, isolation, longing, and devotion.

While T1EK has released several indie-pop EPs and singles, DATCHA sees the veteran producer (Jenna Lotti, Kat Kennedy, Anna Madsen) digging deeper and darker in both narrative and sound. Blending with Julie’s intense, soulful voice, the full length reflects a year of two lovers enduring intense pain and chaos, and emerging with earned strength, unity, and love.

In addition to ThatOneEyedKid’s production and writing and Julie’s voice, the record is fleshed out with remote-session-work from bassist David White (The Illusionist, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), drummer Adam Soucy (Elsewhere, Daniel Costa), and mastering by Bradford Krieger (Big Nice Studio).

T1EK and Julie have performed together for years and have toured internationally performing ThatOneEyedKid material as a duo. They are veterans of the European house-concert circuit and have played extensively around New England. DATCHA shows the two in a collaboration and intimacy like never before. They look forward to bringing DATCHA to live audiences as soon as possible.

“Acoustic music with cheerful arrangement and emotional solos. This song bring us closer to something very distant and certainly bright. It creates a very warm nostalgic mood and the vocals of -Andrew Poston- worth special praise. Striking timbre with invisible arrows of Cupid that fall in the heart.”

“Акустическая музыка, бодрая аранжировка, душевное соло, под которое вспоминается что-то очень далёкое и непременно светлое. Создаётся очень тёплый ностальгический настрой, а вокал -Andrew Poston- требует отдельной похвалы. Поразительный тембр, чьи невидимые стрелы Купидона попадают точно в сердце.”

-Nagamag.com

Artist shared with Nagamag few words behihd this song inspiration:

"This song is a groovy, fun, and feel-good bop that is sure to put listeners in a great mood. I wrote the song from my own awkward, naive, and unaware perspective. It's all about the feeling you get when you realize that you're in love with someone, but you don't quite know how to tell them. The groove is very Shawn Mendes inspired with a John Mayer guitar flare." - Andrew Poston

Andrew Poston is an award winning vocalist and songwriter based out of New York City. Originally from a small town in South Carolina, Andrew got his start in the church performing at a very early age. His musical influences include many genres including pop, rock, rnb, gospel, jazz, and soul. Post college, Andrew made the move to NYC, where he quickly booked the national tour of "Kinky Boots." After touring the country, He continued to work regionally in theaters, concert halls, and performance venues across the country. In 2020, he recorded his debut EP and it is expected to release in 2021.

Stella – I.L.Y.S. (Pt.2) (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , , , |

“Atmospheric, lyrical work with charming vocals and catchy chorus effect. The perfect combination of electronics, neo-soul and live instruments that you'll love from the first seconds.”

“Мелодия припева, обворожительный вокал и запоминающийся припев. Атмосферная, лирическая работа, идеальное сочетание электроники, neo-soul и живых инструментов.”

-Nagamag.com

Pt.2 is the second part to a song of Stella's called “I Love You So”. With Pt.2 closing off her debut EP, and I Love You So showing the beginning of a love story, you'll be taken through a beautiful relationship with a beautiful human. Pt.2 talks about the love that was lost, the regret behind it, and the scar that’s been left on Stella's heart. Just when you think you’re recovering from the emotion-stirring journey this song takes you on, she delivers some profound spoken word; the percussive rhythm section perfectly complimenting the poetry.

https://www.instagram.com/stellawozhere

About Stella:

Out of a dark and dingy bedroom in the depths of the Black Country emerged a dreadlocked creature whose ears pricked up at the sound of twanging guitars and cracking drum beats. Galloping around, she made friends wherever she went and caused mischief along the way. She was a rebel; no care for the rules or the way things should be done. This was the beginnings of Stella.

Something of an alter ego, the name has adopted many connotations over the years, with much of her fan base unaware that it’s not actually her name...

Stella is more than a name now, more than a brand. It’s a way of life. Stella represents freedom and empowerment - the freedom to express yourself and stand up for what you believe in. Stella is finding your own way. Stella is a middle finger to the man. Stella is caring for your neighbour. Stella is joy. Stella is a party. Stella is love.

Her relationship with life has been an integral component in the sculpting of Stella’s sound. Passionate, sensitive yet dynamic, evocative and lyrically provoking, it embodies her struggles growing up in what, at times, was a cruel world. Her insecurities and vulnerabilities, her endeavours for a healthier mind and her battles with adversity are all laid bare in her songs.

Alongside these qualities she has a natural gift for writing alluring melodies and the caressing vocals to deliver them in symbiotic harmony.

If you’re a lover of honest, raw, emotive music, then Stella is for you.

To complement her natural talent, her drive, desire to progress and outgoing personality are opening new doors for her all the time, a testament to her hard work and passion.

So, what can you expect from a Stella show? Well, that’s not something that can be captured in a few words. What can be promised however is that you’ll leave with a smile on your face.

Her inspirations span far and wide and reach beyond music and her immediate experiences. As a devoted feminist and environmentalist, she endeavours every day to make the world a better place and much of her creative expression originates from this. She is also a romantic and is able effortlessly to conjure up heartfelt songs to eternalise a moment.

Some of her main musical influences include Lily Allen, Mac Miller, Bob Marley, Jorja Smith and Tom Misch. Outside of music her most significant role model is her mom, who has been there with her every step of the way, attending every gig without fail and guaranteed to be found dancing wildly at the front.

In the last few years, she has established herself as a household name on the Birmingham scene, winning best pop act at the Birmingham Music Awards in 2018, where she caught the attention of John Taylor of Duran Duran, who commended her for her performance and wrote about it on his social media pages.

She has played many of the city’s most iconic venues such as The Sunflower Lounge, The O2 Institute, and The Rotunda. She has also featured as the guest artist at the highly acclaimed jam session, Neighbourhood.

Stella has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with the likes of Kioko, Lady Sanity and Husky Loops, and was due to headline her first show for Birmingham Promoters in December. Sadly, due to the COVID pandemic this had to be postponed until further notice, but as soon as the restrictions are lifted, rest assured it’s gonna go off!

Currently she is in the final stages of studying for a songwriting degree at BIMM, which again has been rather disrupted by the virus and is now all online lectures. This did, however, allow her the opportunity to focus on her EP, with her first single, Warm and High, released last summer, making it on to a reputable playlist on Spotify. More releases to follow very soon so watch this space!

Stella does not meet societal standards, and she doesn’t want to. Her intention is to bring people together, to share laughs, spread good vibes, provoke thought, encourage the individual to challenge themselves, to question their beliefs and values, inspire them, and ultimately to create a better world for everyone.

andreas owens – not much (better than before) (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“This brand new single by andreas owens was made to take away all the pressure from a tiring day. Low bpm, light sounds and simple structure. A song which can clean the mind from useless thoughts and help us focus on certain things we wish to achieve. ”

-Nagamag.com

Los Angeles-based producer and singer-songwriter andreas owens releases his third single of 2021, "not much (better than before)", an R&B-infused pop track about making meaningful decisions and being your best self.

The song follows the release of his incredibly lauded debut and sophomore singles – “don’t feel happy ◡̈” and “falling & falling” – both of which were well-received by outlets like Banger Of The Day, DUMMY Mag, Early Rising, Substream Magazine, and We Found New Music, and landed on Spotify’s editorial playlists (Fresh Finds, Fresh Finds: Pop, and Study Break) and TIDAL’s editorial playlist (Rising: Pop).

https://soundcloud.com/andreasowensmp3/not-much-better-than-before/s-wVvWLDzu2Xf

"not much (better than before)"

“not much (better than before)” was inspired by the idea that even though we're the same person we used to be, in truth, we can always strive to be better just by putting one foot in front of the other and making more thoughtful and meaningful decisions than the last time.

Too often do we get caught up in trying to make tremendous changes when truthfully, change, in whatever capacity, comes from small, incremental steps. We have a propensity to give ourselves more credit for trying, and not always accomplishing. The fact of the matter is: change is more sustainable when it comes slow and gradual, and similarly, trying to be a better person is best done steadily and thoughtfully.

QUOTES

“This feels like one of the most special songs I’ve ever made to date because of how helplessly imperfect it is. Like, I can really hear a lot of the mistakes I made while making it, but somehow I couldn’t find it in me to try and fix everything, or even feign an attempt to make it perfect. Within its imperfections, it feels perfect to me.”

“‘not much (better than before)’ is the product of truly not knowing what to do with myself. I remember trying so desperately to come up with some new music and was losing my mind a little bit.”

-andreas owens

BIOGRAPHY

andreas owens is the solo project of Los Angeles-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Andres Owens, the lead vocalist of indie pop and R&B band The Millennial Club. Delicately blending intimate vocals with unabashedly ‘pop’ backbeats, the So-Cal native has been slowly but steadily building a catalogue of truly unique material. Embracing the ever-evolving notion of bedroom pop, everything is written, recorded, and produced in his (tiny) bedroom-turned-studio.

In his own words, “It’s the only way I’ve found it to feel authentically myself. The safe, familiar space is the catalyst for facilitating something visceral and unapologetically my own. It allows me to release my compulsive ‘perfectionist mindset’ and instead create with not only the ability to make mistakes, but the understanding that it’s inevitably the only part of the process that makes it my own.”

LoveLeo – BUZZCUT (ft. blackwinterwells) official music video (Video)

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , , |

“Similar sound in the music industry is rarely heard. A very lively and unusual journey in authorial peace. It all sounds quite minimalist, with no depressions or emotionalities. -BUZZCUT- will be a real boon for fans of the genre and bedroom hyperpop.”

“Подобный звук в музыкальной индустрии встречается крайне редко. Очень живое и необычное путешествие в авторский мир. Всё звучит достаточно минималистично, никакой лишней экспрессии и эмоциональности. -BUZZCUT- станет настоящей находкой для любителей жанров bedroom и hyperpop.”

-Nagamag.com

LoveLeo returns with a new hyperpop bop titled “BUZZCUT” feat. blackwinterwells, out now via Godmode/Republic Records—listen HERE.

https://loveleo.lnk.to/BUZZCUTPR

It’s the kind of radical style shift and reinvention we’ve come to expect from LoveLeo – a sly, sardonic look at the way our realities and appearances are increasingly blurring.

“Like many people, I often find myself doing things on social media strictly for the purpose of doing things on social media,” explains LoveLeo. “When you step away from it all, you start to wonder what toll it’s taking on your happiness and who actually benefits from the ‘likes’. That’s what ‘BUZZCUT’ is about. Also I shaved my head so there’s that too.”

LoveLeo also directed the official music video – an absurdist, existential take on “Youtube makeup tutorial” style content, complete with his iconic aux cord earrings, rainbow nails, new buzzcut, and a special performance from the artist blackwinterwells, the architect of the nascent hyperpop movement. Watch HERE.

https://youtu.be/Xvmk7o3ipKY

Additionally, this month LoveLeo stars in the new Yves Saint Laurent campaign, in a short film directed by Jim Jarmusch called “French Water”. The film co-stars Charlotte Gainsbourg, Indya Moore, Julianne Moore, and Chloë Sevigny. Watch HERE.

https://youtu.be/f1Sty3Crl2E

Last year, LoveLeo introduced himself as one to watch with his debut EP, LOOK AT THIS MESS I’VE MADE. Beyond praise from PAPER, Dazed, L’Officiel and more, HYPEBAE raved, “LOOK AT THIS MESS I’VE MADE is one of the summer’s best,” while Ones To Watch proclaimed, “LOOK AT THIS MESS I’VE MADE revels in the creative process, finding a sense of devious delight and rapture in these sonic diamonds in the rough.” Most recently, VMAN dove into his “surrealistic synth pop world” and admitted, “It’s the sound of someone teeming with ideas, unabashedly playing with sounds and giving plenty of room for exploration.” However, it only sets the stage for much more to come from LoveLeo this year.

LoveLeo has amassed nearly 100 million streams in less than a year and incited widespread critical acclaim. His 2019 breakthrough hit, “BOYFREN,” has garnered nearly 54 million Spotify streams and 12 million views on the music video after capturing the top spot on Spotify’s US Viral 50 and Global Viral 50 Charts. He landed on the 2020 Dazed 100 list for his musical and fashion sensibilities, while his EP, LOOK AT THIS MESS I’VE MADE, and additional singles, “ROSIE,” “LEMONS” and “HEAD OVER HEELS,” opened up his world.

ABOUT LOVELEO

When he was a kid, Leo Reilly, who now records as LoveLeo, got excited when one of his friends made a “really bad” rap song. He’d recorded it directly into the SoundCloud app, which Reilly wasn’t even aware you could do, then shared it out to all of his friends, at which point it took his school by storm. After experimenting for a few years and decamping to San Francisco to study fashion, Leo finally landed on an upbeat sound that allowed him to find inspiration in music he loved, no matter where or when it came from. Later, back at his parents’ house at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains, he put together his breakout single “BOYFREN” in his childhood bedroom while his mom and dad were making chicken parm for dinner. After its release at the end of 2019, “BOYFREN” went viral and paved the way for 2020 singles “ROSIE” and “LEMONS.” On his debut eight track EP, LOOK AT THIS MESS I’VE MADE, Reilly taps into a rich wellspring of personal moments of growth, filtered through his unique sense of humor. The EP, its singles and their kinetic and innovative videos, all of which Reilly co-directed, paint a portrait of a rising artist on the cusp of something big. As LoveLeo, Reilly has landed on a sound that is playful and probing, the result of an urge to create music that is not so much reliant on genre as it is a reflection of the 21-year-old’s idiosyncratic viewpoint and style. His songs are deceptively simple earworms that probe big ideas with a light touch, but Reilly never pushes listeners toward a revelation. Instead, he offers up a wonky, sometimes-cartoonish world of slick players and devious villains who’re posturing and fumbling through love and life, just like the rest of us.
