A new band, founded in the eye if the pandemic storm, brings you soul and disco.

Feel Like Home is like a great Roberta Flack soul-number, with a gospel-choir, a beautiful flugelhorn, and some jazzy vibes, telling the story about finding that person that makes you feel at home.

Founded in the pandemic year of 2020, by songwriter and composer J.O. Nilsson, Band of Pockets will take you on a journey through soul, nu jazz, R&B, disco and funk. “Trust This Feeling” is their first release: an EP with 4 songs, created in situation where people can’t meet physically in a room, but instead share their talent and musicianship through the digital domain. Sending love, and files, via satellites into the magic heart of multitrack creativity. Thanks to this, Band of Pockets consists of members from all over the world; Sweden, USA, Brazil, Spain… They’ve come together, and they’ve nailed the vibe and the groove just like if they were playing together in a room. Who they are?

Rachel Marie Moore, also known as Yona Marie, born and raised in Maryland and parts of Washington DC, is a singer most known for releasing 'The Luv Exposure', featuring artists, producers, and singers from around the US. The lead single was featured on a Majormix release which included Chris Brown, Ace Hood and Tyga.

Jason Meekins is a drummer from Austin, Texas, and has worked with famous smooth jazz artists, and plays funk, soul and gospel in the Texas area.

Tomas Olsson, the Swedish keyboard wizard, who has been around the Swedish funk, fusion and pop-scene for decades.

Last but not least the famous bassist, “SV”, who, due to legal technicalities, is a well-kept secret. But the groove and the genius basslines might give him away.

All supervised by guitarist and songwriter J.O. Nilsson, composer of over 100 songs on Spotify. When asked what’s the point of putting a band together these days – a band that hasn’t even met for real – J.O. Nilsson answers: “We HAVE met. We have met in music. If you listen, you can hear it. And these are great times to engulf in creating new music.”

This is the foundation for Band of Pockets, then they blend with guests from all over the world, depending on the song, the arrangement and the feel. In that sense, Band of Pockets has a solid core, but a floating, curious and inviting soul. Welcome.

Friday 29th January, London, UK – Singer, songwriter and musician, Lola Lennox releases the accompanying music video for her current single “La La Love Me” today.

The music video’s release follows hot on the heels of “La La Love Me” being the most played record on Radio 2 earlier this month and it entering the Top 10 of the UK Radio Airplay Charts.

The accompanying music video for Lola’s “La La Love Me” is directed by her childhood friend, British photographer and director, Grace Pickering (Dua Lipa, Sam Smith, Calvin Harris, Tyler The Creator). It follows Lola around a house while she lives out a daydream, inviting the viewer to join her in a celebration of life, love and colourful fantasy. The video climaxes with a performance in sparkling gold and soft light, highlighting the soulful prowess of the song. During a time where we are not getting out much, “La La Love Me” encourages us to find our own sense of joyful inspiration, even when alone at home.

Written by Lola Lennox and Carl Ryden, “La La Love Me” is produced by Annie Lennox alongside Dan Muckala and Braeden Wright. It follows Lola’s critically acclaimed summer single “Back At Wrong” which was she performed on The Kelly Clarkson show on NBC and received high rotation on Radio 2 (who added it to their A playlist).

Showcasing both Lola’s powerful voice and her inherent aptitude for song-writing, “La La Love Me” is a soul infused ode to escapism bedded in a soundscape filled with joyous colour and cascading melodies. Drawing on Lola’s predilection to daydream, it explores the concept of longing for a love that elevates one’s heart, mind and soul.

Earmarked as an artist to watch by everyone from The Sunday Times, Music Week and NME to Vogue Italia, Wonderland Magazine and Numero, Lola Lennox will be releasing her debut EP in 2021. The long player project will feature both “La La Love Me” and “Back At Wrong” alongside brand new tracks recorded in sessions with the likes of Eg White (Florence & the Machine, Sam Smith), Dan Wilson (Adele) and Dan Muckala (Leona Lewis, LeAnn Rimes).

Music has been in Lola’s blood from as long as she can remember. She has played the piano and sung from seven years old, written songs from the age of fifteen, and earned a place at the Royal Academy of Music. 2020 saw Lola duet with her mother, Annie Lennox, for their much talked about performance of “There Must Be An Angel” for Global Citizen One World: Together At Home to an audience of over 270 million viewers. While in 2019 she collaborated with Goldfrapp’s Will Gregory on the soundtrack for the “Serengeti” docu-series, which was narrated by Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong and aired in over 35 countries around the world (including the the UK on BBC and the U.S. on Discover Network).

Waiting All Day is a meditation on love that is unfulfilled. Each verse is a vignette about a different relationship that is somehow unrequited, and the chorus is about carrying forward in spite these muddled feelings.

About Motenko:

The saying goes you never forget your first love. For Micah Motenko—musically speaking—that would be Motown, a sound he swooned for at age 7. That music set an artistic ideal for Micah of well-crafted heartfelt songs, brimming with infectious hooks and smoldering grooves. Today, that love legacy burns from the self-titled debut EP from his groove machine, Motenko.

The Austin, Texas-based quartet formed in early 2018, and it’s a band of brothers whose day gigs are first-call hired gun musicians. Together, the players play a fresh but authentic blend of 1960s and 1970s soul, 1990s R&B, and New Orleans boogie.

“We want the music to sound like the stuff we listen to between gigs—like the music we all first fell in love with and made us want to play in the first place,” Micah shares.

Micah is the lead vocalist, primary songwriter, and keyboardist of Motenko, but he’s first to admit it’s all a band affair. Motenko features Micah’s honeyed vocals imbued with a sweetly sincere quality of longing. His keyboard style has a vintage soul sensibility though it’s also informed by the playful and bold textures of hip-hop, neo-soul, piano-driven soul-rock, and modern R&B.

Micah is joined onstage, and in the studio, by guitarist Cat Clemons III whose play-for-the-song restraint and stanky grooves provide just the right amount of flair. Rounding out the soul machine is the in-the-pocket telepathic interplay of bassist Josh Flowers and drummer James Gwyn. You can catch them holding down Wednesday nights at the venerated East Austin venue Stay Gold.

The quartet mines the interlocking ensemble mindset blueprinted by the great rhythm bands of the late 1960s and early 1970s such as The Meters, Booker T. and The MGs, and the great Motown pit musicians. The band’s vibrant musicality is also informed by modern masters of soul such as producer J. Dilla, and the Soulquarians, the brilliant neo-soul collective the featured and worked with artists such as D’ Angelo, The Roots, Slum Village, and Erykah Badu.

Austin’s Honey Made bring back memories of legends like James Brown, Sly and the Family Stone, and Earth Wind and Fire with their modern take on slamming primal soul and focus on their R&B roots. Having shared the stage with George Clinton & the Parliament Funkadelic, Sierra Leone Refugee Allstars, The Motet, Lee Fields, Roxy Roca and Flow Tribe, the band has already made quite a name for themselves locally, and are currently planning on rapidly expanding their audience beyond the Austin scene.

Honey Made began performing in 2018 and has become known as one of the best live bands and party bands in town. As one reviewer said; “You can’t help but smile at Honey Made. Its hard not to delight at their athletic musicianship, their infectious hooks, or hairpin turns between the entire canon of funk feels-hard funk, hip hop groves, or James Brown – you name it, they did it. Honey Made derives the diversity of sound mentioned above from many influences. These include James Brown, Parliament Funkadelic, Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings and Prince. Honey Made delights in bringing all of these influences into its music.

Now the band has released its first full length record titled “Brand New” in November of 2020 produced by Steve Berlin of Los Lobos. The record is comprised of ten tracks of original music. The title track “Brand New” is about how finding the right person can make all things “Brand New.” It also speaks to the emergence of Honey Made new music and a new direction. “Chicken Sweats” is about one of the band’s favorite foods but also let’s the listener know that there is more going on here. “Be True” is a more of traditional soul sound. Then there is funky instrumental “Southern Fried Funk” and the feel good track “So Good.”
