Kate Vogel – Rain (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , |

“A theme to see the good in other people like Rain does, washing the pain and hug whole world as rain does with no exceptions. Lot of goosepumbs through these amazing lyrics and ethereal voice of Kate Vogel.

-Nagamag.com

Few words about Kate Vogel:

Kate Vogel fell in love with storytelling lyrics at an early age. At 16, Vogel moved to Nashville, Tennessee and began co-writing, performing, and recording her first record. Not unlike many women before her, Vogel’s ambitions came to an abrupt halt when she fell victim to a predator in the industry, and subsequently stopped singing for 9 years.

A decade later, on the coattails of the MeToo movement, Vogel found the strength to release her debut single, Reasons to Stay, a hopeful ballad born from her trauma and experience with suicide. Vogel confidently sings, in her steady soprano, “the beauty will outweigh the pain, we’ll all find a purpose one day.”

Leaning on musicians from both the Pop and Americana worlds, the result is a beautiful hybrid of vulnerable singer-songwriter music with strong pop sensibilities. Raw and intimate, Vogel’s music captures the metamorphosis of unimaginable pain into the beauty of hope.

“Kate Vogel has one of those rare voices that can make you truly feel the emotion of the lyrics without relying on vocal tricks... Call it Singer/Songwriter, Americana or simply Commercial music if you will but labels are unimportant when an artist can draw you in and immerse you in the feelings this well. ” — Travis Erwin (LA on Lock)

Johnny Ashby – Never Let You Go (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , |

Johnny Ashby is a British singer/songwriter based in Los Angeles, California. Ashby found a love for music through his Dad’s mixtapes. As a teen he played guitar in various bands and after leaving college, stepped into the session world. Deciding to move to California with nothing but a suitcase full of clothes, a guitar he built himself and dreams of playing the legendary Troubadour, the songwriter dove in head first and has not looked back since.

Inspired by the likes of David Bowie, Kings of Leon, Coldplay and Damon Albarn, Ashby aims to create music following a similar path of thinking outside the box. His sound blends the best of his childhood favourites, with the intention of being performance worthy. Ashby explains, “When I write I imagine what the songs would be like live, that’s what’s most important to me. That’s what I’m aiming for.”

Ashby’s upcoming five-track EP entitled In Bloom is co-written and produced with friends Fredrik Eriksson, Sebastian Fritze and Bill Delia from the band Grizfolk. Grizfolk are hugely successful on the folk-rock circuit opening for artists like Bastille, Haim and X-Ambassadors. The EP highlights Ashby’s infectious Americana tinged sound, featuring radio-ready anthems with lyrics that speak of finding connection, new beginnings and coming together. The ethos behind the EP was to provide uplifting, positive and hopeful messages during a time of uncertainty. Ashby confides, “I think all the songs lyrically really address where we are in this very moment. They’re very true of the time in which they were written. They all have this “heat of the moment” feel for me because we managed to capture the emotion and feeling on each track right there and then. They’re so raw and honest and I feel like I’m wearing my heart on my sleeve here with all of these songs.”

The EP begins with “Never Let You Go” - reminiscent of Kings of Leon, the track features dreamy, layered vocals allowing listeners to uncover something new with each and every listen. Then there is “In Bloom” which glistens with shimmering guitar melodies, warm vocals and thought-provoking lyrics. Ashby shares, “I love the piano melody in the bridge and I love the big U2 guitars on the outro. There’s so many sections and parts on this song, all these hooks intertwine together. I get really excited when that happens on a song. It’s what songwriting is all about for me.”

“SOS” speaks about this idea of being lost and wanting to be found. Featuring honky-tonk piano and free-flowing vocals, the song delivers a care-free attitude. With lyrics referencing camping trips with friends, Ashby uses textured, unison vocals to emit a "we're all in this together" vibe, creating a heartwarming track about friendship and solidarity. Leading single “Born Again”, features ethereal harmonies and vast soundscapes delivering a utopian, spine-tingling atmosphere which gradually builds into an unforgettable anthemic chorus. The singer’s soulful, raspy vocals narrate failing, getting a second chance and wanting to live forever.

The EP is brought to conclusion with “Found You”. Gang vocals result in a big stadium feel, ending the EP with a bang. The songwriter explains, “It’s about being a kid and having an imaginary friend. I really like writing songs from that perspective. It’s so freeing and it’s kinda refreshing I get to revisit that and put myself back in the shoes of a younger me.”

Ashby hopes his music encourages others to take a leap and rediscover yourself. Admitting how during these unprecedented times he managed to find time without limitations and value what is truly important, he shares, “Without this lockdown I don’t think these songs would have happened. I needed this time to stop, sit down and figure it all out. It’s been a valuable lesson and I hope that if there’s anyone that feels at a loss, like I did before pre lockdown, I hope my music speaks to them and inspires a leap of faith.”

Ashby’s first EP Cannonball Days peaked at #9 in the iTunes songwriters chart which led to Huffington Post naming him a “Top 5 Emerging Icon". Since then, he has released two well acclaimed EPs and his music has been heard on radio both in the UK and the US, gaining huge support from BBC Introducing and Absolute Radio in London. He's played the prestigious Troubadour in Los Angeles multiple times and his songs have been featured on primetime television for shows including Grey’s Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, Elementary, Rise, Baywatch, Teen Mom and Midnight In Texas.

Dax – I Need A Break (Video)

Categories: Hip-Hop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“I Need A Break” from Dax, is a heartbreak song about things he has been through off the second EP “I’ll Say It For You”.

Lyrics:
Intro:
Love is a drug that I can’t quit
It’s destroying me

I sit and cry my room
my hearts been broken
suffocating feels like I’m choking
I don’t know what to do
I’m just praying that this pain goes away drinking taking shots to the face
how you love me if you’re always playing games
want to leave but I feel trapped inside a cage I just think I need a break
I

How’d you do this
we were supposed to live in perfect Harmony
I got half of you you got all of me
Miscommunication girl just talk to me
how you let it get to this
how you let my friend hit
if there’s no loyalty girl there’s no relationship
yeah
so I think I’m going to have to take a break
So I think I’m gonna have to take a break

I sit and cry my room
my hearts been broken
suffocating feels like I’m choking
I don’t know what to do
I’m just praying that this pain goes away drinking taking shots to the face
how you love me if you’re always playing games
want to leave but I feel trapped inside a cage I just think I need a break
I

This is stupid
don’t start crying now after you lose him had my heart then you went an abused it all my scary dreams have become Lucid my heart is scattered in many pieces broken I think it’s bleeding
numb I have no feeling

I sit and cry my room
my hearts been broken
suffocating feels like I’m choking
I don’t know what to do
I’m just praying that this pain goes away drinking taking shots to the face
how you love me if you’re always playing games
want to leave but I feel trapped inside a cage I just think I need a break
I
I just think I need a break I
I just think I need a break I
I just think I need a break I
I just think I need a break

I sit and cry my room
my hearts been broken
suffocating feels like I’m choking
I don’t know what to do
I’m just praying that this pain goes away
Pain goes away

It’s Dax

Nadisko – On It feat. Henning (Video)

Categories: Pop, Post, Video|Tags: , , |

Brook Gee Records are enjoying a year of sustained growth on the back of a stacked release schedule in recent months which has shined a light on some of the finest emerging Producers in the business. This month though sees a very special delivery for the imprint as Nadisko touch down on the label armed with a single that’s already picking up major attention from those that know the very best in dance music when they hear it. ‘On It’ lays down a marker for 2020 as Nadisko and Henning come together for a project that’s been given a full treatment from production through to award winning video and it’s no less than this superb piece of work deserved.

Nadisko let off a euphoria-inducing series of beautiful arp synths that are teasingly held back by provocative filtering whilst Henning’s chilling vocal is spread across the mid ranges in perfect harmony with the electronic elements that remain subdued, but ready to unload when the space prevails. Those breaks do come, and they are totally stunning. The air left behind by the removal of the bass and drums is flushed out with glistening synthesis as the low pass filter on the lead is wrenched forwards to unveil the true potential of the spine tingling melodic lead which takes the centre stage and roars out a classic throwback Trance inspired tune, complete with spine tingling key-change and shimmering plucks that fill the sonic spectrum with vibrant energy. The drops are alive with sub frequency bass and throbbing kick drums that take full control of the bottom end to create a perfect bed for the flurry of melodic content that glides across the spectrum in the shape of plucks, acid squelches and a stack of subtle pads and atmospherics. ‘On It’ is a real professional grade vocal anthem of a track that will be lighting up dancefloors, radios, headphones and anything else that it comes into contact with in the weeks and months ahead.

Nadisko formed during the Myspace glory days of mid-2008; an era when MGMT’s debut album was being blasted all over the radio and ultimate-cringe head-to-toe fluro attire was widespread. They quickly cemented themselves as premier resident DJs in Sydney, and from there they gained airplay on BBC Radio One for their debut EP, they supported Steve Aoki, Tiga, Uffie and heaps more massive names, remixed Peking Duk’s first EP, and played shows all across Australia, Europe and Central America.

Be on the lookout for more top-quality music from Nadisko via Brook Gee Records in 2020 and beyond. ‘On It’ arrives this month and comes packaged with an awesome official video to complete this cosmic package.

Don’t You Dare (Feat. Subkultural) (Video)

Categories: Blogwave, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , |

Lyrically the song explores the limits and boundaries that are present in emotional encounters and relationships. In this case the line is set pretty far and most is permitted, but there is a point of no return and that is the crux of the song. Simply put, this is a masochist’s love song.

Musically, it combines elements of electronic music with a rock attitude and feel. An upbeat and energetic intensity is present from start to finish. Fans of electronic, rock, and industrial music in general will gravitate towards this new track from Darko Richards featuring Subkultural.
