Camie – a river in winter / mnemosyne (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Rock, The Latest|Tags: , , , , |

“-A river in winter / mnemosyne- can hypnotize you from the first seconds. The vocals of -camie- seep in the heart so deeply that you want to stop time and fully immerse yourself in this charming atmosphere. This is the music you want to listen.”

“-a river in winter / mnemosyne- гипнотизирует с первых секунд. Вокал -Camie- настолько глубоко просачивается в самое сердце, что хочется остановить время и полностью погрузиться в эту чарующую атмосферу. Музыка, которую нужно слушать и слышать.”

-Nagamag.com

Artist shared few words about this song inspiration:

"I wrote 'a river in winter / mnemosyne' when I lived abroad in England, but deeply missed the winter rivers in my home country of Canada where I used to walk, with loved ones, every morning. The first half of the song is a reflection on my favourite winter river, and the second half is a plea to the Greek goddess of memory, Mnemosyne, to always be remembered by the places and people that I love most." Toronto-based singer/songwriter and multi-award-winning storyteller Camie has long enchanted audiences with her delicate queer-feminist croonings, rich vocal tones, and lush poetic imagination. After years of playing intimate gigs across southwestern Ontario and parts of the United Kingdom, the now-24-year-old songstress is plunging into unfiltered, unshackled creative expression with the release of her cinematic ambient folk concept EP, troubadour.

troubadour is a thrilling and soul-stirring addition to the contemporary Canadian folk canon. Imbued with soaring synth and string textures, it paints a portrait of a young woman in control, moving through vast physical and emotional landscapes with razor sharp intuition. Forging her own passage through the motions of love and loss, connection and disconnection, memory and presence, troubadour shows the artist at her most raw and vulnerable. The record is a brave expression of queer womanhood, of running away and getting lost in the world, of falling in and out of love with shifting people and places, and of returning home at the end of a long journey.

Camie’s confessional prose and poignant lyricism draws inspiration from great Canadiana songbirds, including Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen, and more contemporary influences such as Fiona Apple, Phoebe Bridgers, Brandi Carlile, and Laura Marling. troubadour was written and produced in complete isolation during the 2nd and 3rd wave of the COVID-19 pandemic alongside Toronto-based producer and instrumentalist, Mike Tompa (TOMPA, Silverstein, First Ghost, Deadwinter, Pine Pitch; projects with Universal/Island Records, Epic/Sony Records, and Century Media).

Camie is the alternative folk project of award-winning Tkaronto-based multidisciplinary performance artist, Camille Intson. Her writing, performance work, conceptual art, and music has received international attention and critical acclaim. She can be found everywhere online at @thecamiliad, or at camilleintson.com.

OVRGRWN – Wasteland (Spotify)

“Discover the unique approach of "OVRGRWN" in the Synthwave scene. The San Francisco-based duo offer an ultra melodic track based on electronic soundscapes with characteristic retro taste. Also the silvery voice of Danae adds more positive energy in the whole mix.”

Blending the synthscapes of ‘80s film scores with contemporary indie pop, San Francisco-based duo OVRGRWN has developed a remarkable creative formula that is richly atmospheric, sweetly melodic, and frequently willing to tap into its dark side. Balancing a seriousness in the music with genuine enthusiasm, the group’s songs captivate listeners with immersive production techniques and a serene singing style.

OVRGRWN consists of Brandon and Danae, two California natives who met in 2012 when Brandon answered a “drummer wanted” ad on Craigslist to be part of a garage/surf rock project Danae was organizing. The two formed a creative synergy over six years of playing together in the band before branching out into new musical territory with OVRGRWN.

The group’s debut EP, O Well, landed in 2019 and immediately resonated with fans of synthwave and indie pop music. The early success of the album put them on the radar of retro synth label FiXT Neon, which signed the group to a deal in 2020. O Well was re-packaged and re-released through the label later that same year, and OVRGRWN has new material scheduled with FiXT Neon for early 2021.

Gifts From Crows – The Unimaginable Brightness of Summer (Spotify)

-Nagamag.com

This piece is the start of a new song-cycle for Gifts From Crows that will eventually make up an album called, 'Stories in Slow Light'.

Ever since I was a child I have always been profoundly aware of the changing of the seasons. Each one has its own unique characteristic that is completely elusive until you are actually there experiencing it.

Whilst we might talk about the golden colours of autumn, it still takes our breath away when October comes around. But summer too is shocking in its intensity and seemingly even more so as we get older.

I have mostly written for voices over the years and find the melding of words to melodies an exquisite combination. The human voice is the instrument that we most readily respond to, most deeply feel its emotional charge and this piece seemed the perfect setting to re-introduce that dimension to my musical palette.

The music of Gifts From Crows has been featured in Headphone Commute, Stationary Travels and CutCommon Magazine. It has also been played on Classic FM, Scala Radio, Jorvik Radio and featured on the official Spotify playlist, Classical New Releases.
