Zenon Marko – Ascent 4 (Video)

Categories: Ambient Features, Electronica, Features, The Latest, Video|Tags: , |

“Zenon Marko with his new ambient atmospheric vision Ascent 4 invites to explore the elements of earth and beyond. Lush harmonies and gentle keys, arranged with care on sound design, engaging an emotional trip and appreciation for the universe which we are a part.”

-Nagamag.com

From the full-length symmetrical concept album “Symmetry”

“Ascent 4” is the final ascent of the Symmetry concept album. Symmetry is the musically symmetrical soundtrack of a journey, whether physical, intellectual, imaginative, emotional, philosophical, psychological, or spiritual. The music expresses progressive ascent towards a goal, arrival at an apex, descent, and return. Each piece corresponds to one of the shapes of ancient geometry representing the elements: earth, water, fire, air, aether. “Ascent 4” is about the element of air.

The structure of the composition reflects and embodies philosophy, mathematics, sacred geometry, harmony and dissonance, and psychoacoustics. This electronic arrangement of the composition is inspired by early, baroque, classical and neoclassical music, as well as electronic music and minimalism. The entire album is musically symmetrical, with the “Descents” as compositional reverses of the “Ascents”.

The challenge was to create a timeless meditative album, depicting a wide range of moods from tranquil to intense, within strict limits: all pieces share the same tempo, arrangement, duration, and internal structure. Themes repeat, vary, evolve, develop throughout. The Ascent/Descent pairs required the creation of sounds, chord progressions, and melodies that worked equally well forward or in reverse. Each successive “Ascent” modulates to a “higher” musical key and greater harmonic and melodic ascending movement. “Esse” (Latin: “to be”), the centerpiece and apex, itself internally symmetrical, is music of complete stasis, an arrival at the destination, a pure contemplation of a panoramic vista, perhaps even a state of enlightenment or mystical rapture. Each “Descent” mirrors its numerically equivalent “Ascent”, successively descending in chord progressions and in musical keys. One source of inspiration for this work is the ascent to knowledge as described in Plato’s allegory of the Cave; another is the meditative process and the ascent to the enlightened state of consciousness, known as “The Fourth” (Turiya), in Indian philosophy.

The hope is that listeners find this music to be an evocative soundtrack to their own journeys, and that they may create their own interpretations.

Stephen Caulfield Interview on Nagamag

Categories: Ambient Features, Ambient Interviews, Features, Interviews, The Latest|Tags: , , , , , , , |

Nagamag:
What are the genres that describe better your music style?

Stephen Caulfield:
Ambient, Contemporary Classical, Neo-classical, Dark Ambient, Space Music

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

Stephen Caulfield:
I am a musician and composer that has been making music for a long as I can remember. I grew up in a a pretty large musical family with what felt like music all around me. However I've always preferred writing and working on my own and following my own passions. I was always looking for anything I could lay my hands on that made some kind of interesting music or noise which meant that I never became too locked into any particular music style or genre, something that is still reflected in the music that I listen to. Essentially I love music that moves me emotionally in some way whether I am the one making it or not. Over the years I have released 5 albums and worked on 3 film soundtracks.

Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

Stephen Caulfield:
Growing up I remember hearing artists like Queen, ABBA, The Beatles, Blondie and Pink Floyd all through my childhood, in fact sometimes it feels like I have them written into my DNA. This gave me a real appreciation for the power of music to move people emotionally and unite them in a shared experience. It also taught me to follow my own path, success is amazing if it happens, but staying true to your artistic vision will give you creative satisfaction and fulfilment.

Nagamag:
How did your new album come about?

Stephen Caulfield:
My new album, ‘Circuits’ kind of took me by surprise, I wasn't planning on making it and all of a sudden, there it was. I had been working on music for a number of different projects and when I put them together I realised that they worked well together and formed a cohesive album that I really like. On the album I have continued to explore ambient and piano led composition, but I have also introduced some stronger orchestral elements too which I think provide some nice dynamic range over the course of the 15 tracks. As well as the music on Circuits, I have made videos for each track on the album using a series photographs of light manipulations I made that I then animated.

Nagamag:
Most artists have a favorite song from a different music genre than the one they are producing music for... Which is yours?

Stephen Caulfield:
The Japanese House "Chewing Cotton Wool"

Nagamag:
Of Course Nagamag would love to listen also which track from a similar artist you admire?

Stephen Caulfield:
Jóhann Jóhannsson "Flight From The City"

Johan Famaey Interview on Nagamag

Categories: Features, Interviews, Neoclassical Features, Neoclassical Interviews, The Latest|Tags: , , , , , , |

Nagamag:
What are the genres that describe better your music style?

Johan Famaey:
neo-classical, piano, musical, cinematic

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

Johan Famaey:
I was four years old when I played my first tunes on the accordeon, taught by my father. It would culminate into my graduation as master in music at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven, Belgium in 2002. 18 years and countless performance in Europe and China and compositions later, a new episode has started in 2020. After very successful performances of my musical Hors in February 2020, based on the legend of Bayard, I've decided to pursue my love for performing on the piano and composing even more passionately.

Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

Johan Famaey:
Music was all around me, since my parents were musicians. My father was my first inspirator. Not only did he teach me how to play, he also let me appreciate all genres of music by playing records. I remember very vividly how I was not only enchanted by music of Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky and Schubert but also liked to play arrangements of old songs like 'Crying in the Chapel'. Wen I was a teenager, I heard the music of Ennio Morricone for the first time with the broadcast of 'Secret of the Sahara' on television. His music has had a very profound effect on my adoration for a melody that touches the soul. Music should be felt.

Nagamag:
Do you have any new music coming out?

Johan Famaey:
This year 2020, I will release more piano and orchestral music and even some tracks with vocals on it. For music videos, I work together with the amazing film producer María Cecilia Alguacil from Argentina. Moon Touch has been masterfully produced by her and also Time Passenger is an extraordinary beautiful video which will be shown for the first time September 25th on YouTube. It will be available on Spotify and other streaming platforms around half to end October.

Nagamag:
Do you have any concerts coming up?

Johan Famaey:
Due to covid, it is very difficult for us musicians to perform. Nevertheless, November 28 en 29 I will present a whole new show with my music with piano, backing tracks, dance, vocals and all whistles and bells in terms of light and sound. This will take place in my hometown in Hamme, Belgium.

Nagamag:
Most artists have a favorite song from a different music genre than the one they are producing music for... Which is yours?

Johan Famaey:
Symphony X "When all is lost"

“Serious retro synth design, happy melodies and beautiful vocals, making this a good mood synthpop song!”

One day, these two young men accidentally found a formula. They found a formula that could make the two of them nod their heads. They call it “The Nodding Frequency.” They decided to apply this formula to their musical work called Quencyland.

But something was missing, the two of them weren’t quite satisfied with their jobs, they thought “The Nodding Frequency” needed to be shared with the rest of the world.

Then the music album entitled “The Nodding Frequency” was born.

Will their goals be achieved? Can people all over the world enjoy the secret formula?

She’s The Queen – Shades Of Blue (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Electro Pop Features, Electronica, Features, The Latest|Tags: , , |

“Charming melodic arps, wide and soft uplifting vocals in a fine blend of good groove.”

-Nagamag.com

Lyrically, this song is about compartmentalizing memories and saving them for when you're able to finally face yourself. The chorus teeters between the desire to believe that you had no control in the outcome of a relationship, with the fact that you're still haunted by what could have been. Written and recorded in our home studio, the song began with a harpy synth and was built up with guitar and our Moog Little Phatty.

She’s the Queen is an American electropop music duo signed to Electronic Rumors. Based in Portland, Maine, She’s the Queen is composed of Emily White (vocals, songwriting) and Andrew Kuryloski (production, songwriting, guitar).

The duo met and formed while attending school together at Ithaca college in upstate New York. Shortly after college, the duo moved to New York City and released their self-titled EP, She’s the Queen, which features their first electro hit ‘Waiting Game’.

In 2012 the duo’s hit track ‘Waiting Game’ was featured on the Electronic Rumors compilation album alongside Futurecop!, Fear of Tigers, Vanbot and other notable acts. The duo released two follow up EPs through their label featuring ‘Talk to Me’, ‘The Way’ and 'Cold Heart'.

She's the Queen's music has been featured on FOX TV's 'Sleepy Hollow', Showtime's 'The Real L Word' and The Style Network's 'Betsy Johnson XOX' to name a few.

OLI Interview on Nagamag

Categories: Features, Interviews, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

Nagamag:
What are the genres that describe better your music style?

OLI:
Alternative Pop is definitely the best way to describe it. Synth, strings and I’m also a big fan of adding jazz elements.

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

OLI:
To be honest, ever since I was a child I just knew that this was what I was the only thing I would never stop doing . I’m lucky, my family is extremely musical and I was always encouraged to take up an instrument and perform.
In 2014 I started working with producer Benny D (Stormzy, Boy George, Kylie, Plan B, Robbie Williams, Paloma Faith). I just really love his musical taste and we’ve been a team ever since.

Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

OLI:
It would have to be anything ‘Sade’. The whole moody/bedroom pop female vocal that is used so much now a days just makes me think of her. I used to listen to the Diamond Life album every night to help me sleep (early 2000’s) and compared to the crazy pop I was hearing at the time, it just felt so soothing and comforting. Thank stuck with me and made me want to add jazzier elements.

Nagamag:
How did your song with Dave Gahan come to be?

OLI:
It was actually very simple and quick - the song wasn’t finished from their session and needed writing. I thought the backing track was really old Americana and melancholy – which I loved. When I put down the guides for the lyrics we then realised my voice was actually a great mix on the track with his.

Nagamag:
Most artists have a favorite song from a different music genre than the one they are producing music for... Which is yours?

OLI:
Stereophonics "Dakota"

Nagamag:
Of Course Nagamag would love to listen also which track from a similar artist you admire?

René Le Feuvre – Second Hand Soul (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Features, Pop, Songwriter Features, The Latest|Tags: , |

“Second Hand Soul, is a beautiful song of soft acoustic guitars, chill beats and warm mellow vocals by René Le Feuvre through a well mix production, where listeners can focus on the depth of these positive vibes.”

-Nagamag.com

René Le Feuvre said about this song
"Second Hand Soul is the result of an unprecedented year of change and uncertainty for both myself and the world at large. After moving from the city back to my rural hometown due to COVID-19 I had the opportunity to reflect on my place in the world as everything seemed to be crumbling around me, losing career defining opportunities in the US, but much more importantly the life of a close friend around this time of pain and isolation"

René Le Feuvre is a singer-songwriter who has built a loyal fan base across the country with his smooth vocals, impressive guitar skills and looped beats. Crafting his sound by busking on the streets of North Queensland and taking out local singing competition titles, René migrated to the Gold Coast aged 17 to pursue a career in Australian Rules Football. After playing in the reserve grade for The Suns, he decided that his true passion was music, and set about playing at every music venue, bar and market, where he could hone his acoustic sound.

With a style that is often compared to British songwriters Ed Sheeran and Mark Rosenburg (Passenger), René decided to audition for The Voice Australia 2018. Wowing the judges with his heartfelt acoustic rendition of Lauv’s hit, ‘I Like Me Better’, René earned himself a coveted spot on Boy George’s team, eventually making it through to the knockout rounds.

In early 2019, René set his sights on Nashville, where he spent four weeks co-writing, recording and performing. This included a collaboration with global hitmaker, Katie Cole (Smashing Pumpkins); mentoring by acclaimed producers Jason Wyatt (Jewel, Atz Kilcher) and Dr Ford (Jade Gibson, Michael D. Keeney); and performances at iconic Nashville venues, such as Bluebird Cafe. Before returning home, René also took out a top-3 spot in Nashville’s Rising Song competition with his song “Whispers and Whistles”, voted by popular demand.

In 2020 René was approached to perform at two original showcases during SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. This was quickly cut short by the global pandemic, and instead René Has been focussing on recording his first EP which will be released in September this year. René performed his EP at his first ticketed show at Miami Marketta on the 26th of September.

Fiona Joy Hawkins Interview on Nagamag

Categories: Features, Interviews, The Latest|Tags: , , , , , , |

Nagamag:
What are the genres that describe better your music style?

Fiona Joy Hawkins:
New Age, Celtic, Neo-Classical or just romantic piano :) A unique defining style puts music outside the pigeon holes or genre descriptions.

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

Fiona Joy Hawkins:
I was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome at the age of eight and found solace in the piano. I buried my head in music, found my calling and discovered a gift that allowed me to believe in my own possibilities. I went into the recording studio for the first time in my 30s and have never wanted to do anything else since.
Im classically trained, love touring and performing and hail from a small village in Australia. I want to reach other people and turn them onto the idea that music has health and connection benefits and the power to make our lives better.

Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

Fiona Joy Hawkins:
My Mother was 17 when I was born and my Grandmother moved in to help raise me. She arrived with an old German iron frame piano and it was pure magic to me from the first note that I touched. I literally fell in love with the endless possibilities for sound and its all I have ever truly wanted to do - be a musician.

Nagamag:
What advice would you give newcomers to the music industry.

Fiona Joy Hawkins:
Firstly, hone your skills and learn your craft. After you have that in check, if you want to compose you need to have something to say. Being a composer is about story telling and that comes from the depth of your soul , the ups and downs you have experienced in life. Regarding the business of music.... that is the conundrum we all face, be prepared to work seven days a week for little money except the satisfaction that you are doing something you love and touching lives with your music.

Nagamag:
Most artists have a favorite song from a different music genre than the one they are producing music for... Which is yours?
