“Lie To Me by Vera Blue is a wonderful electro pop track vibes that could definately soundtrack the memories of a summer relationship. Breathy, minimalistic and with solid mix!”

-Nagamag.com

Following her smash hit “Rushing Back” with Flume, Australian electro pop powerhouse Vera Blue delivers the next exhilarating chapter with the release of her new single “Lie To Me” out now via Republic Records—listen HERE!

If the tracks on the Australian sensation’s debut album Perennial were written in the ashes of a devastating break up, then “Lie To Me” is Vera Blue (a.k.a Celia Pavey) losing her mind at the other end of the romantic spectrum—falling IN love. “Lie To Me” is anchored to a pulsating, tropical beat with a shrewd hybrid of live and electronic drums, interweaving a scattering of ominous sounding vocal samples and synths. It’s a summery dance hit with extra layers of sonic tension, as Vera Blue sings, “Would you lie to me? If I lie, would you lie? Say goodbye to me?”

Intriguingly, Vera Blue is not directing these lyrical questions at the object of her affection but at the warring voices in her own head—some validating and amplifying her panic and jealousy, the others imploring her to take hold and not destroy a good thing. Of “Lie To Me,” Vera Blue says, “When you go through a lot of emotional shit, you can’t imagine yourself in a new relationship. Then you suddenly fall into one, and the fear and mistrust can be overwhelming: ‘Is this as amazing as it seems, or is it going to blow up in my face again?’”

The song has been brought to life with Vera Blue’s producing/co-writing team of Andy and Thom Mak and engineer Jackson Barclay. Vera Blue says, “The lyrics and melodies that I wrote with Thom came from a more poetic and obscure experimental place for both of us, with Andy digging into new exciting sonic landscapes imitating the raw emotion and Jackson bringing the tones to life tracking various instruments through the amazing sounding console and outboard gear at the grove studios. This song had us all wide eyed and buzzing.”

For “Lie To Me,” Vera Blue’s extraordinary vocals are at capacity which she credits to three years of relentless live performing and projecting her voice over festival crowds. As well as her sold out headline shows, she has played Splendour in the Grass and Lollapalooza, both as a solo artist and as part of a world tour with Flume.

She says, “I recently watched some video of myself when I first started performing—my voice was so sweet and innocent! I could not have reached the belting moments at the end of ‘Lie To Me’ back then. My voice is stronger than it ever has been, which enhances what we create in the studio.”

Kate Vogel – Rain (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , |

“A theme to see the good in other people like Rain does, washing the pain and hug whole world as rain does with no exceptions. Lot of goosepumbs through these amazing lyrics and ethereal voice of Kate Vogel.

-Nagamag.com

Few words about Kate Vogel:

Kate Vogel fell in love with storytelling lyrics at an early age. At 16, Vogel moved to Nashville, Tennessee and began co-writing, performing, and recording her first record. Not unlike many women before her, Vogel’s ambitions came to an abrupt halt when she fell victim to a predator in the industry, and subsequently stopped singing for 9 years.

A decade later, on the coattails of the MeToo movement, Vogel found the strength to release her debut single, Reasons to Stay, a hopeful ballad born from her trauma and experience with suicide. Vogel confidently sings, in her steady soprano, “the beauty will outweigh the pain, we’ll all find a purpose one day.”

Leaning on musicians from both the Pop and Americana worlds, the result is a beautiful hybrid of vulnerable singer-songwriter music with strong pop sensibilities. Raw and intimate, Vogel’s music captures the metamorphosis of unimaginable pain into the beauty of hope.

“Kate Vogel has one of those rare voices that can make you truly feel the emotion of the lyrics without relying on vocal tricks... Call it Singer/Songwriter, Americana or simply Commercial music if you will but labels are unimportant when an artist can draw you in and immerse you in the feelings this well. ” — Travis Erwin (LA on Lock)

Johnny Ashby – Never Let You Go (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , |

Johnny Ashby is a British singer/songwriter based in Los Angeles, California. Ashby found a love for music through his Dad’s mixtapes. As a teen he played guitar in various bands and after leaving college, stepped into the session world. Deciding to move to California with nothing but a suitcase full of clothes, a guitar he built himself and dreams of playing the legendary Troubadour, the songwriter dove in head first and has not looked back since.

Inspired by the likes of David Bowie, Kings of Leon, Coldplay and Damon Albarn, Ashby aims to create music following a similar path of thinking outside the box. His sound blends the best of his childhood favourites, with the intention of being performance worthy. Ashby explains, “When I write I imagine what the songs would be like live, that’s what’s most important to me. That’s what I’m aiming for.”

Ashby’s upcoming five-track EP entitled In Bloom is co-written and produced with friends Fredrik Eriksson, Sebastian Fritze and Bill Delia from the band Grizfolk. Grizfolk are hugely successful on the folk-rock circuit opening for artists like Bastille, Haim and X-Ambassadors. The EP highlights Ashby’s infectious Americana tinged sound, featuring radio-ready anthems with lyrics that speak of finding connection, new beginnings and coming together. The ethos behind the EP was to provide uplifting, positive and hopeful messages during a time of uncertainty. Ashby confides, “I think all the songs lyrically really address where we are in this very moment. They’re very true of the time in which they were written. They all have this “heat of the moment” feel for me because we managed to capture the emotion and feeling on each track right there and then. They’re so raw and honest and I feel like I’m wearing my heart on my sleeve here with all of these songs.”

The EP begins with “Never Let You Go” - reminiscent of Kings of Leon, the track features dreamy, layered vocals allowing listeners to uncover something new with each and every listen. Then there is “In Bloom” which glistens with shimmering guitar melodies, warm vocals and thought-provoking lyrics. Ashby shares, “I love the piano melody in the bridge and I love the big U2 guitars on the outro. There’s so many sections and parts on this song, all these hooks intertwine together. I get really excited when that happens on a song. It’s what songwriting is all about for me.”

“SOS” speaks about this idea of being lost and wanting to be found. Featuring honky-tonk piano and free-flowing vocals, the song delivers a care-free attitude. With lyrics referencing camping trips with friends, Ashby uses textured, unison vocals to emit a "we're all in this together" vibe, creating a heartwarming track about friendship and solidarity. Leading single “Born Again”, features ethereal harmonies and vast soundscapes delivering a utopian, spine-tingling atmosphere which gradually builds into an unforgettable anthemic chorus. The singer’s soulful, raspy vocals narrate failing, getting a second chance and wanting to live forever.

The EP is brought to conclusion with “Found You”. Gang vocals result in a big stadium feel, ending the EP with a bang. The songwriter explains, “It’s about being a kid and having an imaginary friend. I really like writing songs from that perspective. It’s so freeing and it’s kinda refreshing I get to revisit that and put myself back in the shoes of a younger me.”

Ashby hopes his music encourages others to take a leap and rediscover yourself. Admitting how during these unprecedented times he managed to find time without limitations and value what is truly important, he shares, “Without this lockdown I don’t think these songs would have happened. I needed this time to stop, sit down and figure it all out. It’s been a valuable lesson and I hope that if there’s anyone that feels at a loss, like I did before pre lockdown, I hope my music speaks to them and inspires a leap of faith.”

Ashby’s first EP Cannonball Days peaked at #9 in the iTunes songwriters chart which led to Huffington Post naming him a “Top 5 Emerging Icon". Since then, he has released two well acclaimed EPs and his music has been heard on radio both in the UK and the US, gaining huge support from BBC Introducing and Absolute Radio in London. He's played the prestigious Troubadour in Los Angeles multiple times and his songs have been featured on primetime television for shows including Grey’s Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, Elementary, Rise, Baywatch, Teen Mom and Midnight In Texas.

Sly (with Emily Warren) – Cotton Candy (Video)

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , |

Enticing alt-pop newcomer Sly joins the Village with his riveting debut single “Cotton Candy,” featuring the talented Emily Warren (multi-billion-stream driving force behind hits for Dua Lipa, Khalid, Sigrid, Rita Ora and Charli XCX) on vocals.

Sly, aka Sylvester Sivertsen, has racked up esteemed credits over the past few years, having collaborated and produced for notable artists including The Chainsmokers, Liam Payne, Cheat Codes, the Jonas Brothers and many more. Now he returns to the forefront of emerging artists as a songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist with his debut release.

Having grown up to parents involved in the arts, music runs deep in Sly’s bloodline. His father is renowned producer and drummer Jan Sivertsen and his mother, perhaps his greatest inspiration, is the legendary Danish singer and songwriter Lis Sørensen. The Copenhagen-based artist grew up watching his parents work with analogue equipment which led him to begin teaching himself how to produce in Logic, drawing inspiration from Daft Punk and Justice but continuing to experiment with his personal sound.

By his late teens Sly had perfected his skill for mixing live instrumentation and synthesized beats, landing him an early cut with Liam Payne. His success soon spiraled into bigger cuts like “Side Effects” which went on to hit hundreds of millions of streams for The Chainsmokers. “When I started making the music I wanted to hear, I hit a vein,” he says. In turn, inspired by his work with major artists and noticing that he was building a catalogue of idiosyncratic, compelling and human pop, Sly really did start making music for himself.

2020 is here and Sly has begun to emerge as a dynamic artist in his own right. In his scintillating debut release “Cotton Candy,” Sly shares his own music with the world: combining state-of-the-art pop production, emotion, and humanity.

“Human emotion is what music is about,” proclaims Sly. “I’m very particular about whether music makes me feel something – in its lyric, its melody, its sound, or all three at once,” he explains.

New single “Cotton Candy” hits the mark. Sly captures a dark, moody, and sexy energy in this new track and Warren’s luxurious vocals were just what the song needed. He explains that the single is about not giving up on love. “Emily was going through a breakup and we were talking about how difficult love can be, and how to know when you should let go or keep fighting.

‘Cotton Candy’ is a song about not being ready to give up and Emily got back with her boyfriend the next day.”

Sly effortlessly blends pop-forward production with a passion for analogue synths and real drums and guitars, making for a sonic palate that feels both fresh and familiar. Sly seamlessly introduces new elements to the pop lane and “Cotton Candy” is his first official offering.

Andrew Roman – Abnormality (Video)

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , |

Andrew Roman makes his much-anticipated debut on Gemstone Records with ‘Abnormality.’ A refreshing modern house production, this release signals new sounds for the California-based producer as he divulges into grandiose basslines and mesmerizing arpeggios.

‘Abnormality’ jumps straight into an alluring breakdown characterized by spacy synth pads and delicate vocals. Warm arpeggiated plucks and soothing vocal harmonies conjure throbbing tension before the track drops into a dramatic bassline and punchy drums. Roman builds further tension in the second drop with manipulated vocal fills and ethereal ambiance effects.

Despite recently joining the Revealed family, Andrew Roman is no new name to the dance music scene. Hailing from San Francisco, his artist project is the culmination of former aliases and ghost producing for other acts in the US and EU. Roman’s past tracks have been featured by Spotify’s editorial team on New Music Fridays and top EDM playlists. He’s also received support from legends like Hardwell, The Chainsmokers, Jauz, and more.
