Macrowave – Ex Nihilo (Spotify)

“True epic production far from the typical sounds. "Ex Nihilo" meaning out of nothing, make us think of how can it be to form so many things from scratch. Truly amazing mix from a higher level of creation.”

-Nagamag.com

Everything formed out of Nothing. This is beyond understanding, because there are no opposites.
A cinematic track with a darksynth vibe.

Florejan Verschueren – Where Days End (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Neoclassical, The Latest|Tags: , , , , |

“There is such an expression - an amazing one. Joseph Shabason and his composition The Fellowship directly refers to him. An unpretentious, light and madly soulful work.”

“Есть такое выражение - удивительное рядом. Joseph Shabason и его композиция The Fellowship непосредственно относится к нему. Незатейливое, лёгкое и до безумия душевное произведение.”

-Nagamag.com

Florejan Verschueren (°1978) lives in Belgium together with his wife and their four children. He has been passionate about music ever since he was knee-high to a grashopper, and has been roaming the city and Belgium with numerous musical projects, in different styles.

At home he finds peace in his music room. The grand piano - a gift from his granddad to his father - adds a dash of grandeur to the room. This is Florejan’s musical sanctuary, a place that allows him to submerge himself into reverie. The trees outside follow the rhythm of the seasons, and set the pace at which Florejan composes new music. Harmony and balance. This has led to 'Piano Piano', an album that embraces rest and contemplation. It is process of growth, part of the cycle of life. It should not surprise anyone that the working title for 'Piano Piano' was 'WINTER', a season that breathes resourcing and reflection.

Florejan has stripped every composition to the bone, to the bare essence of the song. It has been an exercise in letting go and a quest for finding beauty and purity. Seemingly easy listening, the melodies conceal a profound richness. Each song is a trip, telling a story with many layers.

Who else but illustrator Sassafras De Bruyn could provide this album with the right images? It was a match made in heaven: beautiful drawings as a perfect answer to the multi-layered music.

'Piano Piano' is a very personal record and shows a part of Florejan that not many people have already discovered. The album will be released end of november 2019

Tomas Raae – Montségur (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, The Latest, World Music|Tags: , , , , |

“Live, wind instruments always affect a person in a special way. The atmospheric Montségur track intoxicating melody sounds DUDUK like smoldering candle flame in the night. Tomas Raae plunges into suspended animation, music that will hypnotize you.”

“Живые, духовые инструменты всегда воздействуют на человека особым способом. В атмосферном треке Montségur звучит опьяняющая мелодия дудука, словно тлеющее пламя свечи в ночи. Tomas Raae погружает в анабиоз и мы не гарантируем, что у вас получится очнуться.”

Dark night. Just before dawn. It blows. One looks out towards the horizon but cannot see. One can hope. One can pray. One can not know. The music is also a thought from a dark night in a dark story from a mountain in the south of France.

With The Dim The Darkness Came is an ambient and cinematic album that explores silence, contemplation in the moment, spirituality, history, thoughts and visions. The aim is to create an interreligious sound universe that, through the music archives of history, creates a current sound image that invites open questions; to reflect on what gives meaning, faith and hope, and what people have previously believed in and been willing to fight for

Vega Falling is the third single from the two-part space-themed EP series, Astronomica. At the end of 2019, I spent six weeks in Costa Rica with my wife. I had traveled for mostof the year, and I was excited to spend the final days of December in a tropical paradise. There was almost no light pollution where we were staying. There weren't anystreetlights, storefronts, or restaurants that were open after dark. This meant that once the sun went down, we were inside, making dinner and washing the sand off our feet. I had a small concrete table next to the kitchen with my studio gear setup, and I would look out the skylight in the living room to see the light from the moon and stars pouring in. It wasn't hard to imagine that we were living on a distant planet, all by ourselves. It was both terrifying and comforting. This song is meant to feel like a journey to the shores of another habitable earth beyond our realm. The sound of the ocean waves at the beginning of the song was recorded on my iPhone. I captured the audio during one of our daily walks, and it still makes me feel like I'm looking out at an infinite abyss where the ocean and the sky become one.

“It is never too late to get distracted from the hustle and bustle of current affairs and calmly relax to the sounds of the Innocenzo Genna piano. Pay special attention to the Clouds composition. Beauty and grace in every note. Bravo!”

“Никогда не бывает поздно отвлечься от суеты текущих дел и спокойно расслабиться под звуки пиано Innocenzo Genna. Обратите своё особое внимание на композицию Clouds. Красота и грация в каждой ноте. Браво!”

-Nagamag.com

Artist shared few words about this song with us:

"The basic melody of this composition was inspired by a documentary about Japan I was watching one day at night. I immediately wrote dawn the notes and I recorded, without further developing. Some months later I found the music file on my computer and I was surprised about, because I had completely forgotten. I liked the melody and I started to elaborate more around that. While looking around in search for further inspiration, I finally found the right notes when traveling on the mountain of Central Italy. While lying in the gras and watching the clouds, the basic theme came back to my mind and I got the idea how the music could develop. Clouds was born"

Innocenzo Genna, called also Inno, has always lived music in multiple dimensions: as a musician, firstly performer and entertainer, and then composer, but also as a technology scholar. His interest in music is not only artistic and emotional, but also professional, because for years Inno has been working in the Internet and technology sector as a lawyer and policy expert, so as to be involved in the major political debates concerning music and technology: from P2P to online piracy, from online platforms to the liberalization of collecting societies, up to the recent European copyright reform.

Such an intense professional activity enriched Inno’s musical vocation, while adapting his classical practice with modern and pop piano, blues and jazz, so as arranging the various genres into a personal compositional style. The many trips in Italy and abroad have contributed to creating the context of images, memories and fantasies from which his compositions are born.

In 2007 Inno settled in Brussels where it found new creative inspiration through the contact with the dynamism and the international ésprit of both capital city and European institutions, the creative Belgian surrealism, and also because of the rainy and melancholy climate of the place. In 2016 he completed his first collection of piano compositions "Brussels Stories", while a second CD is scheduled to be released in 2020.

The piano compositions of Innocenzo Genna fall within the categories of minimalism and modern classic, with frequent combinations into blues and jazz. He is similarly conservative as a composer, for his music drawing heavily on harmonic and melodic practices found in 18th and 19th-century European compositions. His repertoire is freely accessible through his website and social networks such as Youtube and Soundcloud, while being available also on streaming platforms such as Spotify and Deezer.

Joshua Carlton – Swallowed by the Sea (Video)

Categories: Neoclassical, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , , |

“Imagine the infinity of the sea and realize how small we are in front of the whole creation. Speechless feelings emerge from the unconcious when listening to this unique track.”

-Nagamag.com

This song was written to reflect the feeling of descending into madness and being swallowed entirely from the darkness. This is a feeling that has stuck with me since I had ICU delirium caused by an infection in my neck after surgery. It’s difficult to write and share this with everyone but it is also sort of cathartic. I really appreciate you watching and listening.

Oregon instrumentalist Joshua Carlton toured the world with post rock band This Patch of Sky for the last decade. This lead him to compose music for television and film such as ‘Brand, a Second Coming’ (a documentary film on actor Russell Brand and his battle with drug addiction), and the Vice channel. He has also been featured in the McDonald’s Ramadan commercial, as well as large brands such as Petco. Joshua’s excited to share his new solo project. “This is an album that I absolutely had to write” he says of 2021 debut ‘Moonlight Under the Black Flag’. Joshua was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in February of 2020 and found solace in purging his emotions through the music he was composing. “This music is truly my heart, and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed creating it”.

Hope to Hope is a softly flowing, calming harp solo reflecting the resilience of mankind. “Hope bubbles up within us and keeps us moving forward against all odds,” says composer & harpist Kirsten Agresta Copely.

http://www.instagram.com/musiccityharp

KIRSTEN AGRESTA COPELY is a harpist, composer, and arranger. Known for her unusual command of genres like hip-hop in addition to classical music, her prolific career has taken her throughout the United States, Europe, South America, Israel, Japan, and the South Pacific; she has performed for heads of state, in blockbuster movie soundtracks, alongside Billboard 100 artists, on late night television, and with the most recognized symphony orchestras in the world. Composition marks Copely’s latest addition to her career: she released her first album as composer, Around the Sun, in January 2020. The album, a collection of new age/ambient works, is a collaboration with her husband Marc Copely, credited as producer, engineer, and mixer. Recently, One World Music UK praised her first single as “a rich weave of melodic brilliance...a single you could leave on repeat for hours.”

Steeped in rigorous classical training, Copely’s performance career began at an early age: by fourteen, she performed a full solo tour of the British Isles, and continued to gain attention in the classical world by winning Bronze Medal in the 1st USA International Harp Competition, debuting as concerto soloist at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center soon after. This busy period in Copely’s career marks the start of a long tenure of classical performances, including solo performances in Dublin, Peru, and Amsterdam, among others. Currently, she serves as Principal Harpist with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra at Lincoln Center and performs regularly with the Nashville Symphony and The New York Pops.

While she maintains a heavy schedule in performing classical repertoire, she has also found an uncanny connection with mainstream audiences. Following a feature in PEOPLE Magazine’s “Up & Coming” column, her performances grew increasingly illustrious, culminating in a performance with Beyoncé at the second official White House State Dinner for President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, and Mexican President Felipe Calderón. Other performance highlights include the MET Gala with musical guest Frank Ocean, a benefit concert with Jay Z at Carnegie Hall, and Tony Bennett Celebrates 90: The Best is Yet to Come at Radio City Music Hall, which aired on NBC.

Copely’s charismatic, telegenic presence on stage has also allowed her to share a prominent spotlight in a variety of pop-culture settings: she has performed on a full slate of late night and morning show television programming, including Saturday Night Live, Late Night with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Stephen Colbert, and The Today Show. Performing live, she has played a gamut of the world’s biggest stages, from Madison Square Garden to Lollapalooza, alongside Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Enya, Michael Bublé, k.d. Lang, Andrea Bocelli, Lady Antebellum, Alicia Keys, Kanye West, The Who, Adam Levine, John Legend, and The Roots.

In the recording studio, Kirsten has also become the pop industry’s go-to harpist: most recently, she can be heard on American rock band Evanescence’s newest album, Synthesis, reuniting with her former harp student, lead singer Amy Lee. Other notable collaborations include a feature on Erykah Badu’s album: New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh (“Incense”) and recordings with Lionel Richie, Alison Krauss, Bonobo, Mandy Barnett, Norwegian soprano Sissel, and Jamie Lidell. Furthermore, she can be heard on numerous video game, TV and movie soundtracks, including Outlander, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, The Tempest, Sex and the City 2, Disney’s The Music of Pixar Live!, My Little Pony: The Movie and the JD Salinger biopic Rebel in the Rye.

Originally raised in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Kirsten Agresta Copely has served as the Associate Professor of Harp at Vanderbilt University Blair School of Music since 2017. Her own discography includes two solo performance albums: The Covers Album (2019), which includes 12 covers of hit pop singles, and Dream World (2001), a collection of relaxation-oriented classical works transcribed for harp, with many transcriptions done by Copely herself. She expresses deep gratitude to her pedagogues, Nancy Allen and Susann McDonald, the latter of whom mentored her for over a decade. She holds degrees from Indiana University (B.M. & M.M.), where she was awarded the Performer’s Certificate for outstanding musical performance. Ms. Copely is a member of the World Harp Congress Board of Directors and a member of ASCAP.
