Salar Niknafs – Point of Departure (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Electronica, The Latest|Tags: , , |

Point Of Departure from lar Niknafs is an ambient drone with deep mysterious atmosphere in a hypnotic way, while explores more the dark side of the genre yet delivers dramatic cinematic feelings.

Artist shared few words with us about this track:
"The premise of 'Lesser Lights' was to create a narration, emotionally raw and personal, hopefully the sounds come through as it was intended.

Sketches were mainly done in Melbourne tram 64, where I spent a couple of hours a day commuting. Much inspiration was found in the railway hum and clunk, as from the co-travellers in the window seat. The sound of the album although preserved for the most part, occasionally developed into sections perverse enough to be noticed.

A greater deal of inspiration was drawn from Abul Mogard, Rafael Anton Irisarri and Loscil, whose music I listened to every other day. The tracks where then recorded and mixed in an unforeseen lockdown in mid 2020."

Few words about the artist:

Simon Posford – Flux & Contemplation – Portrait of an Artist in Isolation (Bandcamp)

Categories: Audio, Post, Psychill|Tags: , , , , , |

The master sonic sculptor Simon Posford has crafted one of his most innovative albums in his 30 years of groundbreaking electronic music production: Flux & Contemplation – Portrait of an Artist in Isolation.

Acclaimed worldwide for his boundary-defying collaboration Shpongle and iconic dance project Hallucinogen, Posford has used this global time of isolation to go back to early modes of production. Rather than framing his compositions in restrictively structured arrangements on computer, he mixed loops in real time to spontaneously sculpt tracks that reflected his in-the-moment perspective of being in lockdown. Knowing all the parts that he had in his palette under the faders of his mixing desk, he daily produced new versions of tracks until he had best expressed his personal experience in isolation.

The result is a masterpiece of electronic exploration and extrapolation that is magnetic and hypnotic in nature. From the first note the listener is drawn into this gallery of sonic portraits, with ruminating thoughts in the form of riffs that keep cycling back, sometimes the same, sometimes different. Posford’s spontaneous real-time mixing forges a real-time listening adventure that captures one’s full attention, his live music-making process inviting more than passive listening: this album is an actual lived-in-the-moment musical encounter that transcends the medium of sound.

In a global culture built on distraction, where music has become more and more a commodity barely heard in the background, Posford’s inspired and involved creative process transforms his handiwork into foreground music, his experience breaking free while in isolation providing a parallel experience for listeners.

Embark on a musical journey that is simultaneously introspective and expressive, a timeless statement of a unique time in history that captures both the personal and universal flavours of our extraordinary era, revealing the freedom that can be found exploring from exactly where you are.

Hugar – Enigma (Video)

Categories: Electronica, The Latest, Video|Tags: , |

Hugar — Icelandic duo Bergur Þórisson and Pétur Jónsson — are prepping The Vasulka Effect: Music For the Motion Picture out October 2nd on Sony Masterworks. Their genre-defying sound is in full wide-screen focus on the new album and on “Enigma” in particular, with elements of drone, ambient electronics, and orchestral atmospherics, creating a visual language of its own.

Created from never-before-seen footage from the Brotherhood exhibition, the “Enigma” music video provides an enigmatic glimpse into the creative impulses of the feature film’s male protagonist and exhibition creator Woody Vasulka.

Regarding the film: Pioneers of video art, The Vasulkas are lifetime hackers and grandparents of the “YouTube” generation. After struggling in their retirement years, by a fluke they are rediscovered by the art world that had forgotten all about them, and people and institutions are suddenly fighting over who will represent them after they are gone. It’s directed by Hrafnhildur Gunnarsdóttir.

Nagamag:
What are the genres that describe better your music style?

Catty.L:
New Age, Neoclassical, Ambient, World, Singer-songwriter

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

Catty.L:
Since the age 3 I've been learning to play piano and accordion, music had become a part of my life when I was a kid. I used to sing a lot (well maybe I still do?), then started writing music on my own since I found it's way more interesting. In 2017 my first single "Tirta Empul" was released, after that I've been writing many works in the genres of New Age, Neo-classical, ambient and world music. This year 2020 I'm publishing new Single/EP/albums every month, I'm always excited to write something new !

Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

Catty.L:
I don't think there's a single one moment that made my wanna be a music artist... Like I said, music is a part of my life, some everything just happened very naturally. Real music can live for us after we died, and help us being remembered by the world, and that's one of the reason becoming a music artist.

Nagamag:
Most artists have a favorite song from a different music genre than the one they are producing music for... Which is yours?

Catty.L:
Alexandre Desplat "The Angel"

Nagamag:
Of Course Nagamag would love to listen also which track from a similar artist you admire?

Catty.L:
Olafur Arnalds "Near Light"

Nagamag:
What are the genres that describe better your music style?

Michele Nobler:
The genres that best describe my style are neoclassical, classic. Sometimes I am also involved in ambient and new age music.

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

Michele Nobler:
I have always had a passion for music since I was a child, even before I was able to read the scores, I was already playing my original improvisations. I consider music linked to images and more generally to the perception of the world through "sound images". This passion, encouraged by the Mo. Antonio Del Lungo, accompanied me during my 5 years of study at the Conservatory School of Experimental L. Cherubini in Florence (Mo. Rosario Mirigliano). I focus mainly on the neoclassical genre, following the modern minimalism of Nils Frahm and Olafur Arnalds. However, I also work on other musical genres: ambient, soundtrack and classical. At the end of 2016 I started to publish some of my works: the best ones are "Memory Tapes" (an album for solo piano, inspired by old video tapes, published by Double J Music), the book of sheet music for piano and the album "Suspended Souls" and the single "Cap Blanc Nez" which appeared in the HBO Spain TV series "Foodie Love" (directed by Isabel Coixet). The latest album just released is "Super 8", and as the title says, this too was inspired by vintage films!

Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

Michele Nobler:
Yes, I believe this goes back to an old film that I saw as a child: 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas. I was fascinated by the idea that Captain Nemo could play under the ocean. I think that perhaps the ocean in Verne's book represents the unconscious ... It was then that I understood that I wanted to be a music composer, to tell what is hidden under the ocean.

Nagamag:
Most artists have a favorite song from a different music genre than the one they are producing music for... Which is yours?

Michele Nobler:
Biagio Antonacci "Sognami"

Nagamag:
Of Course Nagamag would love to listen also which track from a similar artist you admire?

Michele Nobler:
Niklas Paschburg "Tuur mang Welten"

Slowburner – Nebula (Video)

Categories: Electronica, The Latest, Video|Tags: , |

“Nebula” is the result of some experiments Slowburner made in the past couple of months, specifically for those visuals in a music adventure to explore ambient and experimental elements, slow progression sleep ambient that will hypnotize you in its atmospheres and gently harmonic tones.

Few words about Slowburner:
Slowburner is the most recent project of Élvio Rodrigues, composer and producer from Madeira island, now based in Lisbon, Portugal. In spite of being a player of multiple instruments, since 2015 Élvio has been experimenting with piano, field recordings and ambient soundscapes. The result is embodied in Slowburner’s debut EP – Before I Return To Dust – which was self-released in digital and CD formats on March 14th 2017.

In 2018, Élvio challenged himself to explore the piano more, having created for that effect a project named “Sunday mornings are for piano”, on which during 10 weeks he composed 10 songs which he played live on Instagram, one each week.

Those 10 songs were then re-recorded and were self-released in a CD Collection named ‘Sunday mornings are for piano’ in June 7th 2019.
