Stephen Caulfield Interview on Nagamag

Categories: Ambient Features, Ambient Interviews, Features, Interviews, The Latest|Tags: , , , , , , , |

Nagamag:
What are the genres that describe better your music style?

Stephen Caulfield:
Ambient, Contemporary Classical, Neo-classical, Dark Ambient, Space Music

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

Stephen Caulfield:
I am a musician and composer that has been making music for a long as I can remember. I grew up in a a pretty large musical family with what felt like music all around me. However I've always preferred writing and working on my own and following my own passions. I was always looking for anything I could lay my hands on that made some kind of interesting music or noise which meant that I never became too locked into any particular music style or genre, something that is still reflected in the music that I listen to. Essentially I love music that moves me emotionally in some way whether I am the one making it or not. Over the years I have released 5 albums and worked on 3 film soundtracks.

Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

Stephen Caulfield:
Growing up I remember hearing artists like Queen, ABBA, The Beatles, Blondie and Pink Floyd all through my childhood, in fact sometimes it feels like I have them written into my DNA. This gave me a real appreciation for the power of music to move people emotionally and unite them in a shared experience. It also taught me to follow my own path, success is amazing if it happens, but staying true to your artistic vision will give you creative satisfaction and fulfilment.

Nagamag:
How did your new album come about?

Stephen Caulfield:
My new album, ‘Circuits’ kind of took me by surprise, I wasn't planning on making it and all of a sudden, there it was. I had been working on music for a number of different projects and when I put them together I realised that they worked well together and formed a cohesive album that I really like. On the album I have continued to explore ambient and piano led composition, but I have also introduced some stronger orchestral elements too which I think provide some nice dynamic range over the course of the 15 tracks. As well as the music on Circuits, I have made videos for each track on the album using a series photographs of light manipulations I made that I then animated.

Nagamag:
Most artists have a favorite song from a different music genre than the one they are producing music for... Which is yours?

Stephen Caulfield:
The Japanese House "Chewing Cotton Wool"

Nagamag:
Of Course Nagamag would love to listen also which track from a similar artist you admire?

Stephen Caulfield:
Jóhann Jóhannsson "Flight From The City"

We Dream of Eden – Please Send Rain (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Rock, The Latest|Tags: , , |

“When guitars meet ambient design, filled with lush reverbs, atmospheric soundscapes and warm keys, you have this wonderful ambient theme to daydream and laid back.”

-Nagamag.com

This is the first single of an EP entitled "When Skies Meet Shores" featuring the artwork of Memphis based artist Cat Lenke who was inspired by "We Dream Of Eden" previous releases to start working with water colors in the early mornings. The song is a lament mixed with hope about the present state we find ourselves in. When the fires are raging... we can pray for rain. When the rain does comes it brings healing to the land, and life to all.

Few words about We Dream Of Eden
From the imagination of composer & producer Kirk Smith comes a project to make minimal yet uplifting ambient music. Combinations of the organic and imperfect sounds of real life blend with the precision and playfulness of modern technology. Collaborations with friends from time to time form a collective of creatives seeking peace in a crazy beautiful world. This music creates a place to think, a place to breathe, a place to dream.

Andreas Kübler – From Dust to Another Life (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Neoclassical, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“Andreas Kübler’ with his theme From Dust to Another Life on IMAscore invite us to his quality cinematic music world, a blend of nostalgy and tension which builds up a wonderful atmosphere and explores new worlds. Obviously the reason why used also in the promotional campaign of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”

-Nagamag.com

Andreas Kübler’s life is all about music. He went on stage to tour Europe as singer and bass guitar player right after school, played lots of music and left the stage again to compose even more. His style could be described as epic music, but plainly emotional would cover it better. A contemporary, modern orchestral sound is the basis of his compositions, but that’s all that makes them comparable.

Andreas is one of the founders and the lead composer of the popular music studio IMAscore and responsible for the music of some of the most successful movie marketing campaigns of all time. This includes Disney’s The Lion King, Aladdin, How To Train Your Dragon, Jurassic World, Avengers and the Star Wars saga. On top of that the music he wrote for the Captain Marvel promotional campaign won the prestigious Clio Gold Award in 2019.

Andreas Küblers public music is the musical portrayal of his artist self. No limitations, no briefings, no boundaries.

Claudio Donzelli • Ossessione (Video)

“Claudio Donzelli with “Ossessione” invite us to a mysterious cinematic atmosphere of both tension and feelings, performed gently with care on dynamic details and goes deep until gives the final emotional salvation to listeners!”

Claudio Donzelli unveils haunting ambient classical portrait with ‘OSSESSIONE’

Italian composer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Claudio Donzelli is poised to announce details of a brand new release with the arrival of ‘Ossessione’. A haunting, introspective thought piece drawing on classical and electronic soundscapes, underpinned by a shimmering, abstract piano melody.

In his newest piece, the Berlin-based composer and one third of international alternative folk rock band Mighty Oaks, collaborated with rising film-making duo HOMETOWN and dancers Jackson Carroll and Léa Salomon to create a surrealscape, audiovisual experience. Fusing music, cinematography and contemporary dance, they created a unique contribution to the discourse on contemporary practices of social media brands and its effect on the human brain. The 5-minute-long piece and its accompanying video are a metaphorical journey originating in a world of noise, consumption and addiction, portraying the fight to free oneself from the repetitive loop and the relentless search for a harmony that can never be gained in the endless feeds of the digital sphere.

In OSSESSIONE, Donzelli reflects on the three stages of the dopamine-reward loop – search, reward, disillusionment – through a piano melody, complemented by classical and electronic instrumentation. During the length of the track, the leading melody tilts into a sense of obsessiveness. Its odd measure of a 5/4 time signature creates anticipation and a sensation of continuously leaning towards the next moment without ever finishing what has been started moments earlier. Harmonies change, but the insisting, obsessive melody prevails – just like a social media user is drawn deeper and deeper into their feed, the listener is drawn into the depth of the track, into the very heart of obsession.

OSSESSIONE pre-empts Claudio Donzelli’s second album due to be released in November 2020, after 2017’s ’Frammenti’, his solo-debut. As a solo musician, he has previously shared the stage with Federico Albanese and Peter Broderick and has played at Lollapalooza Berlin 2018. His music has been described as dreamy, romantic, cinematic, choreographic, meditational, and hypnotic, comparing his work to the likes of Chilly Gonzales, Yann Tiersen, and Ludovico Einaudi.

Greater Bird of Paradise – Uriel (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Electronica, The Latest|Tags: , , |

“Listening to this song after a more layered elecronica reviewing session was like that sun beams from the cloud to the sea. The soft acoustic guitar offered directly a clean and chill listening and when the vocals of ambient folk singer "Great Bird Of Paradise" hit in, with her warm voice, my heart hover gently, like a butterfly starts her short trip to the next flower. The song is a hauntingly beautiful plea to a mythological archangel for social justice, for us a song that definately will return many times to seek its peace.”

-Nagamag.com

Hailing from Brooklyn, Sam Christopher, aka Greater Bird of Paradise, combines a unique ethereal vocal style with classic folk elements. Utilizing a mercurial wit and inventive lyrics, Sam's songs are both familiar and progressive, with sprinkles of psychedelia and ambient influence. The latest single, "Uriel", creates an aura of sublime mysticism as it tracks an internal plea from the singer towards one of the archangels of judeo christian traditon. Combining elements of classic spiritual hymn with contemporary experimentalism and attitude, the lyrics alternate from impressionistic imagery to more concrete requests for the supernatural to aid in the creation of a more just society.

Padre Tóxico Interview on Nagamag

Nagamag:
What are the genres that describe better your music style?

Padre Tóxico:
As my first love was hip-hop and 2nd electronica, therefore the outcome is often fusion of these two genres. But I don't like to keep only one direction. Very often during my recording sessions I sit down with an idea to make some hip-hop sounds and I finish with a minimal house or ambient joint. It might sound cheap but I follow my heart (or rather my ears).

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

Padre Tóxico:
I have started in November 2019 having no experience at all, no much has changed since then :)
My only help what the fact that I through many years, have listened to thousands of different artists who composed various music genres. Thanks to that, I knew what I want to create.

Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

Padre Tóxico:
Sure. I heard Snoop Doggy Dogg's "What's my name" on school corridor. That was the begining of my love for music. But I was a kid then, so it was mainly passive listetner. My urge to create appeared when I have started to consume music consciously and that began when I fell in love for the 2nd time - this time my chosen one was electronic music. Tracks from Jon Hopkins, Kiasmos, Stimming, Synkro, Lapalux, Aparde, Ross From Friends and Four Tet gave me natural high which has lasted till I bought my music gear.

Nagamag:
What is your favourite track off your "Mandala" album?

Padre Tóxico:
I would go with Dopamine Warmness and then Serotonin Reuptake.

Nagamag:
Do you plan to work with other artists?

Padre Tóxico:
Of course, I would love to. I already did "Summer in LA" with UK singer Pri. My dream is to make whole "Life Supplement" album a vocal fueled one - with a help from some hiphop and rnb artists, I hope one day that will happen.

Nagamag:
Most artists have a favorite song from a different music genre than the one they are producing music for... Which is yours?

Padre Tóxico:
Jon Hopkins "Open Eye Signal"

Nagamag:
Of Course Nagamag would love to listen also which track from a similar artist you admire?

Padre Tóxico:
Kiasmos "Bent" and "Burnt" I love them both the same
