Dean McMullen – Luna

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“Love long intros, specially when they are not expected, like in a pop or any commercial song. Beautiful buildup and vocals, drum section is mixed to be in the background, but enough to give it a needed drive while listening. Song should be perfect for some movie scene. ”

Ex-city of Exeter singing songwriter Dean McMullen releases his debut album ‘Part One’, on Friday 2nd September 2022. This ties in with a headline UK tour which takes place throughout September, as outlined below. His debut album called 'Part One' on digital and limited edition coloured vinyl.

Like its deceptively delicate singles; 'Clouds Hold Up The Sun', 'Migrating Birds', 'Speechless' and 'Christine' the album is a multi-layered musical extrvaganza lurking within an enigmatic melodic slowglobe. There are flashes of heroic rock guitars, dashes of bar room piano and hints of fragrant female harmonies as the sound gently ebbs and flows with bashful melodies breaking out of the kind of lush musical orchestration last heard on an ELO B-side circa 'Out Of The Blue'.

If peddling a sound which ambles somewhere between Elliot Smith and Mercury Rev makes him sound like the introspective sort then rest assured that Dean has deftly clocked up enough muscular motorway miles to unnerve the average RAC trooper. Raised on a steady diet of punk rock in Exeter – local heroes The Computers were a special teenage kicking delight – and now based in the Netherlands, his is a tale of incessant gigging as guitarist in oft-loved Muncie Girls interspersed with the odd stint on the slightly more salubrious tour bus circuit as tech for the likes of Tim Burgess and Baxter Dury.

Rather excellently, there is a whole album of this stuff already in the panda canda. Meticulously produced by Gethin Pearson (Kele Bloc Party, ALMA, whenyoung) with Simon Dobson (Bring Me The Horizon, Parallax Orchestra) on the superluscious arrangements 'Part One' is a triumphant collection of sweeping melodies and swooping strings – one part pure ‘Snowman & The Snowdog’ escapism, three parts road-tripping reality. It’s a good balance in an off-balance world, and it is the fourth of four releases as part of the Fierce Panda Albums Club following in the footsteps of Chili Palmer, Enjoyable Listens and Scrounge.

Dean McMullen kicked off the year with a solo live show at Pandamonium! at The Victoria in Dalston. Fresh from Sound City in Liverpool and supporting Tim Burgess on his UK Tour, yet more gigs are coming soon, very much like this...

Estella Dawn – Steal Your Girl

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , |

“There are never a lot of high -quality indie pop and the new single -Estella Dawn will make you know that music is something beautiful, melodic and impressive imagination. Feel this light taste of beautiful and very necessary for your heart music.” (Automatically Translated with Google Translate)

“Качественного Indie Pop никогда не бывает много и новый сингл -Estella Dawn- даст вам понять, что музыка — это нечто прекрасное, мелодичное и впечатляющее ваше воображение. Прочувствуйте на себе этот лёгкий привкус красивой и очень нужной вашему сердцу музыки.”

-Nagamag.com

From stealing the spotlight to stealing your girl, New Zealand breakthrough producer, singer and songwriter Estella Dawn continues the climb, with her sophisticated and catchy new single.

Releasing September 2nd, ‘Steal Your Girl’ leads with retro bass-work and hooky melodic lifts from both the vocals and surrounding synths. The song then follows a nostalgic pathway through mellow, lower-toned verses, towards the resolve of a simple yet striking, easily memorable chorus. Estella’s ever-seductive vocals prove increasingly alluring, aptly reinforcing the desire and self-confidence at the heart of the writing.

Showcasing some of the artist’s most intricate and near-EDM-style production techniques, the new single balances minimalism of melody with evolution of design, for a structure that’s smooth yet snappy, and rightfully drops in with a bang each time the hook returns. The pre-chorus in particular helps elevate this, taking us through an intimate, breathy moment of quiet contemplation, before the ultimate redirection strikes as our protagonist swoops in for the steal.

Always a master of incorporating unexpected twists in both lyrical substance and musicality, Estella’s approach is consistently refreshing – forever pushing the boundaries of contemporary and traditional pop, with stories and set-ups that intrigue and satisfy in newly creative ways. For ‘Steal Your Girl’ we get a touch of Lady Gaga influence in both that gamer-esque bass-line and the distant vocal inflections; the sort that bring a sense of choral presence and color to the stage.

Ceaselessly integrating all essential traits for longevity – the talent, work ethic, passion, precision and originality – Estella has been breaking down the barriers between indie and mainstream pop since her emergence in 2020. With each new single the identity of her sound and the strength and soul of her voice have continued to reach an ever-expanding global audience. Now introducing yet another fresh take, keeping things familiar enough to connect yet interesting enough to hit with impact, ‘Steal Your Girl’ rounds off the summer with a fine fusion of energy and temptation.

The album follows the release of a strings of singles including the expansive Sleepwalking, the groovey ‘Faded Fire’, the driving ‘Simulator’, the soulful ‘Mirrors’ and the propulsive ‘Pressure’, which served as an introduction to the band’s debut album – a coming of age tale capturing the emotional conflicts of love and loss through a journey of self-discovery, portrayal of personal growth and reflection in the modern age, all wrapped around the band’s texturally rich and well-crafted sound.

The upbeat alt groover album focus track — ‘Heartbeat’ — arrives alongside a euphoric backyard performance video. With sunny three-part vocal harmonies, bouncy guitar solos and catchy love-drenched choruses, “Heartbeat” shows Creature Canyon’s uncanny ability to embody their Southern California vibes to form their own niche, in the ever-evolving indie/alternative soundspace – Watch the ‘Heartbeat’ music video here.

‘Remarks’ was produced by Private Island frontman Christian Lum, engineered by Mike Schuppan (Foster The People, Young The Giant, Wolf Alice), mixed by Jordon Silva (Vance Joy, The Avett Brothers), and mastered by Brian Lucey (Cage The Elephant, Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys).

Talking about the album, Creature Canyon say; “creating this album has been a journey for us, both emotionally and sonically. We spent a lot of time early on in the writing process establishing a sound that collectively represented each and every member of the band. We all had equal contributions to the songwriting, pulling from each member’s past experiences to bring it all together”.

Formed in San Diego, CA, Creature Canyon encapsulates the fiery energy of indie/alt rock with waves of modern psychedelia. The band consists of members Austin Steele (vocals, guitar), Ryan Amyot (guitar), Kyle Victoria (drums), Aaron Lund (bass), and Luc Fralic (keyboards, percussion). Known for their thrilling and captivating live performances, Creature Canyon have received nods from Billboard, Paste, and many other industry tastemakers.

Building upon their prior EPs ‘Life I Know’ and ‘Did You Want That’, the band has made a considerable leap forward in their songwriting journey, seeking to tackle themes that deal with the emotional conflicts of love and loss through a journey of self-discovery.

Winter Gardens – Crystallise

Categories: Blogwave, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , |

“Come through the atmosphere Electro Pop and become part of this enchanting performance. The vocalist’s voice takes somewhere to the distance, dissolving beyond the horizon and not letting go for a second! Music, which is capable of performing the incredible – pulling you out of the comfort zone.” (Automatically Translated with Google Translate)

“Окажитесь в окружении атмосферы Electro Pop и станьте частью этого фееричного представления. Голос вокалистки уносит куда-то в даль, растворяя за горизонтом и не отпуская ни на секунду! Музыка, которая способна совершить невероятное — вытянуть вас из привычной вам зоны комфорта.”

-Nagamag.com

For fans of Chvrches, St Lucia, Foxes and more, Winter Gardens’ new single ‘Crystallise’ combines bubbling, transcendental synths and locomotive disco beats. Taking inspiration from some of the more avant-garde artists of the 1980’s, the track looks to create something not heard before but yet slightly familiar — a forward look into the future of the past.

Crystallise is the latest in a series of critically acclaimed singles from the Brighton-based band, following their 2020 debut EP ’Tapestry’. Led by the stunning vocals of singer Ananda Howard, the band’s music features cascading guitars, arping synthesisers, elegantly flowing keys, serene textures and a pulsing groove glued together with a brooding energy.

The single’s bright sound is matched by a lyrical message about the darker side of social media: “In an age of fabricated ideology that most of us maunder aimlessly through a digital reality, promoting and expressing your output can become almost overwhelming and ironically disconnecting” explains Ananda. “Expectations of image, “proving yourself” and an obligation to create statuses can cause a loss of context.”

HOAX – b?

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“What do you think will work if you combine such genres as Surf and Indie Rock? You will be surprised at what miracles sometimes take place in a musical world in which such amazing imagination tracks are born. Positive, warmth and love that pour over the edge of sweeping away everything in their path!” (Automatically Translated with Google Translate)

“Как вы думаете, что получится, если совместить такие жанры, как Surf и Indie Rock? Вы удивитесь, какие чудеса порой происходят в музыкальном мире, в котором рождаются такие потрясающие воображение треки. Позитив, тепло и любовь, которые льются через край сметая всё на своём пути!”

-Nagamag.com

Indie / Alternative band HOAX released b? – the long-awaited narrative-driven debut concept album and a 17-track project detailing the inner workings of being vs. doing.

(stream here) https://ffm.to/hoax-being.OPR

“If all you are is what you do, how can you ever be?”

The entirety of the album is best characterized by its title track, “b?”, which happens to also be the exact center point as well. The whole idea of transitioning from a DO-er to a BE-er is embodied by the themes focused around the idea of BEING. The narrative told isn’t meant to be esoteric or grand; instead, it is just a simple truth boiled down to a quiet realization:

“Honestly, this life moves like a daydream, caught between how the way it goes ain’t always the way it seems. So lovely, cut right through all the ugly feelings faced, cause the way they are ain’t always the way we should be.”

QUOTE

“Behind all the facades we put up, under all the masks we wear – there we are: Ourselves in Being form. It used to be very hard for me to explain what it meant ‘to be’ to other people. And believe me – I know I am not original in this line of questioning. For God’s sake, we all know what Shakespeare said through Hamlet, but as the album developed, it became clear to me that ‘being’ is synonymous with ‘peace’. And that peace looks different in everyone’s mirror. It starts with self-reflection, and never ends with anything other than life devotion to your truest form. I’ve said it so many times throughout our career, but if there is anything you take away from listening to HOAX and this album, it's to please prioritize your peace. We are only here for a moment in the blip of infinity, and during that blink, our peace and being will always be under the scrutiny of the randomness and chaos of life. Perfect the art of sitting still, to know yourself, show and embody empathy, and be authentic to your peace.”

Joost Laméris – Unframed

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“There are many exceptional and memorable vocals in the world, but the voice -joost laméris is one of those that is simply impossible to listen to without proper attention! In his new Alt Pop single, his talent showed himself from a new side - even more feelings, even more energy, even more love!” (Automatically Translated with Google Translate)

“В мире много исключительных и запоминающихся вокалов, но голос -Joost Laméris- один из тех, слушать который без должного внимания просто невозможно! В своём новом Alt Pop сингле его талант показал себя с новой стороны — ещё больше чувств, ещё больше энергии, ещё больше любви!”

-Nagamag.com

‘Unframed’ the newest single by Dutch singer-songwriter Joost Laméris. It’s an indie/chillpop song in which Joost is manifesting his ideal life. The song is released after his previous single ‘Never Feels Real’ which has been played on the radio various times. Joost also sang ‘Never Feels Real’ live on television show ‘Joris Live!’ during pride week, which is aired on various TV channels including OutTV.

In ‘Unframed’ Joost Laméris creates a utopia and sings about how he sees himself in the future. Through atmospheric sounds he sings about a future version of himself that doesn’t limit himself and who has fulfilled his current dreams and ambitions. Simultaneously ‘Unframed’ paints a picture of a better world in which “the seas are golden and the people glowing” and “the acid rain’s benign”. With a strong guitar lead and dreamy vocals with choir backings, the song is also meant as a wake up call. ‘Unframed’ is a reminder for Joost that he is in control over his future and that his current decisions have a great impact on what his future will look like.

In the artwork of ‘Unframed’ Joost Laméris is holding his own face with a hand that looks futuristic through accessories. Through that, the artwork is symbolically expressing the meaning of the song: Joost in the future is in control of where Joost in the present looks and what he focusses on.

Joost Laméris is excited to share more of his thoughts and views on his life experiences through more music. Later this year Joost will drop the first few songs of his debut EP along with various music videos. Joost is also planning to do more live performances in the coming months to promote his singles and EP.

“Приятный звук гитарных струн жанра Indie Rock, плывущий где-то в невесомости вокал, медленный темп ритма и атмосфера полной идиллии. Музыка для заката и восхода солнца, для ужина при свечах и поцелуях в объятиях любимого человека.”

Max Boyle – Bad For Me

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , |

“The multi-artist Max Boyle drops a new Indie Pop single putting the bar even higher in music production. Crystal clear mix of rhythmic and melodic elements that shift around the lyrical part. Also that spicy vocal performance can keep you listening until the last second.”

-Nagamag.com

Toledo, OH-born, Nashville-based singer/songwriter Max Boyle, has been making huge strides with his soulful vocals and relatable songwriting. Boyle jumped into the spotlight in 2019 when he landed in the Top 13 in Season 17 of NBC’s The Voice, coached by John Legend and Kelly Clarkson. On his performances, Country Living praised, “We think [he] could be the next Ed Sheeran.” Now, the indie pop/soul artist is set to release the lead single, “Bad For Me," out August 26th ahead of his sophomore EP, due out September 23rd, a follow-up to his May 2019 debut EP Something to Hold.

Aside from his time on The Voice, Boyle has garnered over 2 million streams to date, with his song “Angel” topping the list at 1.4 million streams. Some of Max’s other notable accomplishments include performing on stage with Mike Posner at the University of Dayton (Boyle’s alma mater), singing the “National Anthem” at major events such as the Detroit Lions’ Game, and headlining the opening concert for the Promedica Winter Concert Series at the Peristyle Theater at The Toledo Museum of Art.

HIs talent for music runs in his family. Boyle “grew up in a musical family" and "loved singing in the spotlight" as a child. As he got older, he began to focus more on sports and hid his artistic side—until he was benched after breaking his arm during his freshman year of high school. The setback turned into an opportunity for him to rediscover his love of music and he posted a video of himself singing on Facebook. His coach saw it and urged Boyle to join the school choir, and he quickly became the lead soloist. And after catching the songwriting bug over a few years, he made a move to Nashville in early 2020 where he has been crafting his latest and greatest music.

A skilled instrumentalist, empathetic songwriter, and refined vocalist, Max Boyle’s talent is holistic and obvious. Perfectly hitting the mark for stripped-down, thoughtful folk songs as well as up-beat, sun-drenched pop drivers, he shows clear mastery of his craft and will certainly continue making a name for himself as an exciting new voice in post-pandemic Nashville and in the world of contemporary music at large.

Stay tuned for more releases leading up to the new EP out this Fall and his live performance on August 30th at Huntington Center in his hometown.
