The Norwegian vocalist drops a stirring comeback album following the teaser single ‘Breathing in Breathing Out’ released earlier this year. She channels the very best of her near 30 year music career in this latest release, with stunning vocals and rolling melodies reminiscent of her earliest ‘art-pop’ era.

Former lead-singer of indie band Velvet Belly, Almedal delivers delicately crafted song-writing and soothing lyrics all wrapped in a newly-found (distinctly dancey) electronic sound. Orchestrated by chill-step producer EvenS – armed with the piano musings and shoegaze electric guitars of Almedal’s partner and film composer Nicholas Sillitoe – the 10-track album adds saturated beats and synths to atmospheric soundscapes.

It harks back to her dream-pop days – certainly distinct from previous ‘female Nick Drake’ folk-pop releases. Through captivatingly emotional lyric delivery, the project treads the line between happy and sad, effortlessly flitting between both. Recording for ‘We Dance Alone’ began with Almedal’s shocking diagnosis of breast cancer – it’s this devastating news that informed the rousing, up-lifting and brilliantly inspiring song-writing heard in full voice on the album.

“The songs are about survival, never giving up, dreams and hopes,” Almedal says. She adds that the harrowing experiences of breast-cancer treatment and recovery render the messages “unmistakably female.” The album is a perfect score to the movie that has been her recent life; while she went on to write a collection of songs that could very well have been her last, she was mercifully greeted with the ‘all clear’ from doctors upon the project’s completion.

Flagship track ‘We Dance Alone’ is a solemn nod to the “best-forgotten lockdown where we were all faced with dancing alone.” So too is the hazy, post-industrial ‘Freeze The Moment’ – a song that speaks to feelings of despondent isolation. “I wanted to capture something where my lonely scandi-noir could feel equally at home in some imaginary futuristic factory landscapes,” the Norwegian says. “It’s a song for those inner moments.”

‘Runaway Turnaround’ stays true to the album’s philosophy of raw emotion; its heavenly electronic textures lay the foundations for melancholy memories of Almedal’s youth: “It’s like a burnt-out polaroid of all my favourite mystical 80s synth-pop moments – distant memories of youth, love affairs… wrapped with the (thankfully) wiser know-how of who I am today.” She notes that the track contravenes her instincts of seeking solace in “folksy” sounds, instead opting to create a powerful, energising synth-driven mood.

‘We Dance Alone’ is a beautifully conceived comeback album from an accomplished musician aiming to match the heights of previous music successes. The Norweigan’s fifth solo album was mixed by British producer Tim Bran, and is out now on all major platforms with a vinyl release also available in the UK.

Solo artist and multi-instrumentalist, Mick Dimitri, has written, performed and produced his own material since he was 13. The Italian singer-songwriter has already amassed an impressive UK press support having released his EP Take My Hand in 2021. However, a chance meeting with Girl Named Tom, prompted Mick to consider working with another artist on his forthcoming single, Every Story.

Having been introduced in March 2020 by Ed Sheeran’s mentor and Nizlopi frontman, Luke Concannon, Mick and Girl Named Tom immediately hit it off. Both struggling to adapt to the confines of the pandemic, they instantly became friends bonding over music. Mick shared his track with the band, leading to singer Bekah Lending her stunning vocal to the song. The depth of Bekah’s delivery gave Every Story a whole new meaning. Fast forward 12 months and Girl Named Tom would be crowned winners of The Voice US, adding yet another layer of intrigue to a track that had continuously evolved over a two year period.

Produced and arranged by Mick himself, Every Story opens with sombre piano notes juxtaposed with Bekah’s rich, emotive vocal, as Mick’s smooth, soulful vocal offers a satisfying harmony to the song. In a world where many tracks are heavily over-stylised, Every Story is stripped back and sparse, a brave piece of songwriting that offers no hiding place for the performers,

Mick got his first big break in the music industry whilst waiting tables for Ed Sheeran in 2018. They became friends and Ed invited Mick to open for him on his Divide tour – alongside Zara Larsson and James Bay. Brazilian-born artist Dillon is back after five years – On her fourth album, 6abotage, produced by Greek-German producer Alexis Troy, Dillon has created a powerful sound sphere one can hardly restrain from. The first single, “<3core,” is available for streaming from June 10th.

With her first single, “<3core”, the Berlin-based artist has created an oscillating tension field – giving the first insight into her fourth album, 6abotage. Written and produced with Alexis Troy, Dillon describes the album as “a love letter, a cry for help and a consequence all in one”, with the hypnotically painful first single, “<3core”, tying up reluctant impulses and emotions, attracting and repelling like rotating magnets.

Reduced to the core, it sounds abyssal and sobering when Dillon outlines an entangled situation, where, perhaps only leaving may help, with the escalating line “if you hurt, till you hurt me, till I hurt you, till you want me, till you love me <3core… “. Troy’s skilfully consummate production embraces Dillon and her struggle with this emotional chaos, which momentarily shifts into spoken word, in sombre warmth, and simultaneously, in stifling coldness. “<3core” reveals Dillon’s unsparing openness, a relentless inner conflict, and the powerful combination of pain/despair and relief/conciliation.

June 10, 2022—Rising composer and violinist/violist Bryan Senti is debuting the track “Humo” off his forthcoming album Manu (due June 24 on Naïve Records), alongside a video directed by Guggenheim Award-winning experimental filmmaker Alexandra Cuesta.

The video is excerpted from a visual album that Cuesta has created for the full record. Senti explains, “If Manu at its essence is about connecting to a memory of a memory, then this film is its visual meditation. Shot on 16mm film through the Andean highlands, Ecuadorian coast and parts of the Amazon, the idea was to recast images to feelings, to create story where there was none, to will meaning. The production itself became metaphor for such a Kantian journey, as shooting a proper film on 16mm through unpredictable and hard-to-reach locations is a test of will itself.”

Senti recently debuted the album tracks “Mantra” and “Manu” with videos directed by Jared M. Royal and featuring the American Contemporary Music Ensemble.
