"fernweh" is a laid-back chillhop lo-fi track with dreamy guitars embraced by a warm soundscape of piano and Rhodes. The "Guitar" is actually a Fender BassVI, a rare instrument which ranges between bass & guitar (used by Robert Smith of The Cure) and adds this melancholic Touch. Spiced up with a bouncy Drum Groove and a Jazz-Ride Toploop. After the recent Spot in 2 big Editorials flamingo is super motivated to follow his path in the global beatmaker game

Shaun Johnson Big Band Experience – Multiplied by Two (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Jazz, The Latest|Tags: , , |

“Soft romantic melancholy, rustling on a percussion background. Multi-level melody and attractive vocals that can stick in memory for a long time. All this creates an unshakable retro atmosphere, when the sky was brighter and the nature greener. Certainly, -Multiplied by Two- deserve some special attention.”

“Лёгкая романтическая меланхолия, шуршащая на фоне перкуссия, многоуровневая мелодия и насыщенный вокал притягивают к себе и оседают в памяти на долгое время. Всё это создаёт атмосферу незыблемого ретро, когда небо было ярче, а трава зеленее. Безусловно, -Multiplied by Two- работа заслуживающая того, чтобы познакомиться с ней и оставить в своём сердце навсегда.”

-Nagamag.com

The Shaun Johnson Big Band Experience is a rare newcomer to traditional pop...fusing a big band spirit with an inventive edge...at once more risky than Buble, more modern than Sinatra. Shaun, an Emmy award-winning crooner (and lead singer of the internationally known vocal group, Tonic Sol-fa) indelibly stamps vocal jazz and swing with a contemporary punch - to the delight of both traditionalists and newcomers - emerging as an original voice in the continuing tradition of the American singer.

Shaun shares:

I wanted to write a song inspired by the Andrew Sisters as well as Bing Crosby and dedicated to the idea that one person multiplied by another can seem so much greater than the sum of its two parts. This has definitely been true in my experience. The fantastic harmonies are courtesy of Abigail Flowers who has recently been hailed as "Best Jazz Vocalist" by the Nashville Industry Music Awards. Often, in the Big Band Experience's live performances, I highlight certain musicians or small groups within the band. "Multiplied by Two" is no exception. Aaron Moe plays throughout the tune with an impromptu arrangement on alto saxophone and Dave Stanoch lays back with a one-take, live groove. Both instrumentalists are clinicians, authors and teachers who've stuck with me since I started this musical adventure. I may have to rename the song - "Multiplied by Three." The Big Band Experience set out to offer a taste of a true big band...the style and the pulse, the horn arrangements and the intimate crooners. As a singer-songwriter who appreciates many genres of music, my original compositions can sometimes be all over the proverbial map. Recently, I've been thrilled to find high school jazz vocalists sending me their versions of "Multiplied by Two" - some with an upright bass, others simply a cappella. I'd like to think "Multiplied by Two" may be at home in the feel of the Great American Songbook, and that this is noticed. If so, I've truly succeeded.

WINDOW SEAT [OFFICIAL VIDEO] by HOT MUSTARD (Video)

Categories: Jazz, The Latest, Video|Tags: , |

“For each emotion, experience and exceptional talent which contributed to -Hot Mustard- in order to write such a miracle like -Window Seat-, we should thank and wish to create more. We strongly recommend watching the same video clip too. It’s just a fairytale!”

“За каждое переживание и эмоцию и за исключительный талант, который поспособствовал -Hot Mustard- написать такое чудо, как -WINDOW SEAT, хочется поблагодарить и пожелать творить ещё, ещё и ещё. Настоятельно рекомендуем посмотреть одноимённый видеоклип, просто сказка!”

-Nagamag.com

The dynamic instrumental cinematic funk/soul duo, Hot Mustard, is proud to announce the release of their debut album, Mother Sauce, on Eddie Robert’s (New Mastersounds) Color Red label. Drawing influence from mid/late 1960’s and early 1970’s funk and soul, the building blocks of first generation boom bap hip-hop, multimedia artist and guitarist/producer Jack Powell and bassist Nick Carusos successfully work their own distinctive flavors into classic recipes with Mother Sauce. Simply put, Hot Mustard is as retro as it is radical, and the end result is nothing short of intensely addictive. Track by track, the debut album offers an unpretentious, yet decadent menu of sonic flavors, effortlessly weaving chopped dry-aged drum arrangements with buttery bass lines, twang infused funk guitar licks and 70’s synth-inspired string nostalgia, all while retaining the time-honored, refined sense of taste that made labels like Stax and Atlantic Records household names. Fueling the record throughout is Big Brass Beats, the all brass horn section out of Brooklyn, NY, featuring horn parts written and arranged by Grammy-nominated trumpeter Jordan Mclean (Antibalas) with Dave “Smoota” Smith (TV On The Radio) holding down the trombone.

“The collaboration with Jordan and Dave ended up being an essential part of the album. When two different worlds collide, sometimes it can be messy, but other times it works in unique and interesting ways. With this record, it felt like we had created something strange and special, while keeping it fun and refreshing,” explains Powell.

On August 20th, Hot Mustard’s second single, “Window Seat,” will drop on all streaming platforms. Accompanying the single is the animated video, a delightfully odd tale created by Jack Powell who goes under the artist moniker of Opus Thimble. HM’s unique musical vision becomes consummate with the addition of Powell’s Monty Pythonesque visual animations. “The video, to me, is basically ‘a day in the life of a creative introvert’. It’s one of the days in which you get the win, so to speak. I try not to indulge much of what the video means to me personally because I think that it’s important to give the viewer an opportunity to apply it to their own life in the way they feel it.” says Powell.

Accomplishing timelessness in any art medium is always the gold standard, and with Window Seat, both sonically and visually, Hot Mustard has accomplished this and more.

Very chilled and slightly nostalgic track with trumpet and electric violin, evoking the long summers Fransoafran spent with his family in the french alps as a child. Fransoafran feels very lucky to have been able to record this theme in studio, with the trumpet masterfully performed by Nguyễn Hoàng Thiên Ân from the Saigon Conservatory.
