“The lyrics in "Wicked Lies" are most reminiscent of a dialogue between the mind and the heart, in which serene distances gently sway on the waves. The vocals consist the core of this song, leaving its sound in the background and multiplying its already vivid emotions.”

“Лирика больше всего напоминает диалог сознания с сердцем, в котором безмятежные звёздные дали плавно покачиваются на волнах. Вокал занимает практически всё пространство, в котором музыка является лишь фоновым дополнением, умножая и без того яркие эмоции.”

“Although this track has a slight coolness, it evokes exceptionally hot emotions. Its deep lyrics and sometimes expressive manner of performance give it colour and originality. Strong work that can heal wounds, but also leave scars!”

“Хотя от трека и веет лёгкой прохладой, он вызывает исключительно горячие, обжигающие эмоции. Глубокий текст и местами экспрессивная манера исполнения придали ему колорита и самобытности. Музыка, которая способна залечить любые раны, но может оставить и свои рубцы. Сильная работа.”

On November 25th 2021 the Icelandic artist Sjana Rut released her cathartic album ‘Broken’, the first part of a two-part saga, a confronting deep dive into the sexual assault she endured as a child. Released without promotion the album gets a re-launch on April 1st to warm up for he second part, ‘Unbreakable’, that is set to be released in the pre summer. The ‘Broken/Unbreakable’ saga is a concept album focused on the subject matter of sexual child abuse. The album is based on a true story.

Sjana composed and wrote all the songs and lyrics on the album, as well as producing and mixing most songs herself. She then finished the album in another studio with the help of two other musicians. The first part of the saga, ‘Broken’, is set in the past and reflects the heavy side of the journey. It starts innocent, quickly becomes sinister and gets heavier with each track until the story eventually transitions into hope and desperation for better times. It is mostly from her viewpoint as a child, and as an adult slowly coming to realise things.

‘Unbreakable’, on the other hand, is defined by strength, bravery, self-awareness and growth. Sjana confronts the past's shadow and the difficult situations surrounding it with confidence and attitude and does so in a mature, and sometimes, humorous way.

“This is the most important project that I will ever release. With this album, I am not only saying goodbye to this chapter in my life and moving on, but I also hope to inspire and encourage other victims of abuse,” she says.

“Whirlpool of emotions, smooth and moderate pace, calm and very atmospheric Neo-Soul. You may feel how the melody of its waves run through your body and freeze with a slight coolness on the back of your head. In this case, the artist has hit the very point of bliss.”

“Водоворот эмоций, ровный и умеренный пульс, спокойный и очень атмосферный Neo-Soul. Вы чувствуете, как мелодия его волн пробежала по вашим рукам и застыла лёгкой прохладой у вас на затылке? Да. Автор этого чудесного трека попал в самую точку блаженства. Наслаждайтесь.”

Lexie Carroll – familiar stranger
(Video)

“The fresh and airy vocals of “Lexie Carroll” give a special charm to this sensual song. Concentrate in its leisurely rhythm, vibration of guitar strings, atmosphere of carelessness and light naiveness.”

“Молодой, свежий как морской воздух вокал -Lexie Carroll- придаёт особый шарм этой чувственной песне. Неторопливый ритм, звон гитарных струн и атмосфера беззаботности и лёгкой, приятной наивности.”

-Nagamag.com

17 year old rising star, Lexie Carroll returns with a new track and video for ‘familiar stranger’. The single drops ahead of the release of her new EP, ‘when the sun came up’, out on 22 April.

With a flair for storytelling inspired by life’s fragile moments and feelings, ‘familiar stranger’ sees Lexie turning to indie pop as she deftly explores letting go and getting over someone. With her vocal floating across catchy pop hooks, ‘familiar stranger’ finds a bright space in Lexie’s teenage vulnerability with her lyrics delivering an understated intensity of feeling from self-reflection as she tries to recover “something that sort of functions like a living heart”.

The video for the track is a charming and heart-warming visual in which Lexie is joined by an unexpected companion, in a friendly balloon as they spend the day at a funfair as Lexie learns to recapture the joy in the simple pleasure of her own company.

Speaking on the premise of the track, Lexie said, “‘familiar stranger’ is about having to see someone again who you used to date and wanting them to think you’re over it – you just want to be familiar strangers to each other so it doesn’t have to be awkward.”

Lexie’s last two singles have hit Spotify’s New Music Friday, she has been picked as the face of ‘Fresh Finds’ and her tracks have also been featured on ‘Our Generation’ and’ Lost In The Woods’ playlists. Lexie has also been receiving strong support from BBC Introducing.

On the track and working with blackbear, BoyWithUke said: “‘IDGAF’ was so exciting to make for me. hearing all the components of the song merge together to make the tune was so much fun, and on top of that, i was able to work with such a talented guy like blackbear. i’m just so excited to show people what i can do.”

The music video picks up right where the “Long Drives” music video leaves off, as BoyWithUke finds himself heartbroken after being misled by someone he met online. Check out the first installment of the story in the “Long Drives” video here.

Ones To Watch recently raved, “with his face hidden behind an LED faceplate, we may not know who BoyWithUke is, but one thing we know for certain is that he’s poised to be the next big thing.” Indie Shuffle noted, “the sadness of this track is electric, it surprises and enthralls,” and added, “‘Long Drives’ makes melancholy easy to listen to and utterly impactful in the space of alt-pop joy.”
