Natalie Duque – Silence Hurts More (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“There are voices that just grab you from the first word. Natalie Duque has such a voice. From the EP Gemini which is Natalie’s birth sign, the exquisite, sensitive second track ‘Silence Hurts More’ not only describes Natalie’s vulnerable side it also illustrates how you can view things from more than one perspective, and is the flip side of the first track. Beautifully deep.”

-Nagamag.com

Artist shared with Nagamag few words behind this song:

"My mini-EP "Gemini" is based on my astrology sign, which is represented by the symbol of the twin and associated with a dual-natured personality. I wanted to show that dichotomy on this mini-EP by musically expressing two sides of the same coin. "Know Me Better" is a more sassy, in your face take on a challenging relationship, and "Silence Hurts More" is the softer, more vulnerable side of things. The concept behind this mini-EP is that it’s possible to view an experience from two separate lenses, and both can be true." - Natalie Duque

If there’s one thing that makes Los Angeles Americana pop artist Natalie Duque happy, it’s a sad song. The singer-songwriter infuses soulful folk melodies into a pop delivery garnered with poetic lyricism. Through evocative and comforting vocals, she communicates feelings of truth, connectedness and vulnerability.

Born in Queens, NY and raised by a single mom, Duque was often left to her own devices as a child, often choosing the company of music over kids her own age. “I am a highly empathetic person; I’ve always struggled with taking on the emotions of the people around me,” she says. “But with music, it’s the opposite. Losing myself in a song has always put me at ease.”

After trying her hand at songwriting for the first time at thirteen, she soon grew fixated, finding an outlet for her emotions through song that provided her with comfort and healing. Heartfelt songs flowed easily for the artist, allowing her to connect with her emotions. Later on, the songstress began sharing her artistry in order to help others find a kindred solace in her music. After pursuing a career as a middle school special education teacher, Natalie couldn’t ignore the voice inside her head telling her that she should be focusing on her music instead. One day, she decided to put it all on the line: Natalie quit her teaching job and decided to launch her music career.

Since then, she has carved out a niche for herself as a sought-after songwriter for herself in addition to other artists, writing with Grammy Award-nominated songwriters like Cam, whose co-write on Natalie’s single "When I Fall," has been placed in the indie film, “The Fall.” She learned to play the guitar, and has also made a name for herself as an in-demand session vocalist, lending her voice to soundtracks for movies such as Black Christmas, The First Purge, and Happy Death Day. Duque has also worked with producer and songwriter Tyler Johnson (Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles) on her song “Maybe”. The artist’s third and latest EP, Brave is Beautiful, was released in 2018 and was produced by Wayne G. Miller (Christina Perri). It showcases her strongest and boldest foray into the pop singer-songwriter space.

Natalie Duque’s sound charts a course through pop sensibility, country-influenced lyrics, and Americana-inspired instrumentation, and the destination is an experiential musicality filled with expressions of pain lifted by soothing hope. Drawing inspiration from Miranda Lambert’s playful lyricism and Adele’s no-holds-barred honesty, Natalie culls moments from her own life and sets them to melodies that meander gracefully over plucked guitar strings, coming alive through her soul-baring lyrics.

Miles Pascall – Faith over Fear (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Neoclassical, The Latest|Tags: , , , , |

“"Miles Pascall" brakes his traditional rule of working for other artists and this time offers something directly to his audience. Made with piano melodies and his expressive voice, "Faith over Fear" can easily be classified among those Neoclassical beauties that stick in the mind and sometimes... stay there for years!”

-Nagamag.com

Rising London-based singer-songwriter Miles Pascall has made an impressive statement with new independently released single “Faith over Fear”. Having toured some of the world’s biggest arenas as a drummer for Cosha/Bonzai and been a session musician for many other artists, Miles’ elite musicianship comes to the forefront on this latest release as he strips everything back to let his powerful songwriting and emotive vocals take centre stage.

“Faith over Fear” encapsulates Miles’ ability to convey his deepest and most honest feelings in song form, with the lyrics doubling as a mantra for both the listener and for Miles himself to strive to put faith over fear in the toughest of situations. The lyrics are amplified further by being purposefully positioned against a minimalistic production led by piano to allow space for the listener’s own rationale and interpretation.

Speaking more on the track, Miles says, “‘Faith over Fear’ is the decision to take back control, regardless of whoever or whatever you choose to believe or not believe in. A few years back I read a quote that said ‘great songs aren’t written, they’re rewritten’, and so I really took my time with this song to get it to where it is now. I initially wrote it back in 2016 from a female’s perspective, and since then it’s changed title twice, been transposed three times to better suit my voice, and the lyric sheet has been rewritten maybe about four or five times.”

With a strong musical foundation built and established over many years, it’s clear Miles is one to watch out for as an artist in his own right if this latest single is any indication. Having already received acclaim from the likes of the BBC and Q Magazine and with more new music planned for 2021, he looks set to continue his impressive rise in the UK and beyond. “Faith over Fear” is available to buy/stream now on all platforms: https://found.ee/bIsHC

Waves Rush In aka Sam Branson is a singer/songwriter based in Oxfordshire. His music takes influence from nature, love, loss and life experience, resulting in relatable music with a universal message – something we all need during these days of internal and external struggle. The storyteller who has social justice, collective wellness and spirituality at the core of his art, has recently dropped his latest single ‘Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself’ and had his first radio play on BBC Introducing Oxfordshire with previous single ‘Let It Bruise’.

As its title suggests, the track tells a story of personal growth, through a journey of healing and self-acceptance. Musically, the rich acoustic-based instrumentation is anchored around a simple string arrangement. The highlight is the beautiful interplay between a male and female vocal – fittingly Sam is joined on vocals by his wife Isabella, who adds to the purity of the message at hand. This vocal duality echoes the sentiment of lending a hand to someone in need of emotional support. Sam explains further:

“We all have a tendency to give ourselves a hard time but when we are going through challenges, what we really need is to give ourselves a hug. Having been there for each other, through the good times and the bad, I feel honoured to have my wife Isabella singing with me on the record.”
‘Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself’ follows previous singles ‘Let It Bruise’, ‘Colours Fade’ and ‘It’s Cool To Be Kind’, all of which have helped the newcomer reach some impressive stream numbers that includes over 155K Spotify streams and over 245K streams on all platforms. The video for ‘It’s Cool To Be Kind’ premiered with Tap The Feed and reached over 62K views in its first two weeks.

‘Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself’ is available now on all DSPs – it’s the fourth single taken from Waves Rush In’s debut EP which drops 23rd July.

Chain Of Islands – Shelter (Video)

Categories: Jazz, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , , |

“Impressive accession, in the entire track with a shift in R & B that excites and paralyzes. Beautiful voice, gentle and measured bits, solid charm. -Shelter- leads on goosebumps with its angelic vocals and strong ending. Incredibly nice to listen and enjoy.”

“Впечатляющее вступление, а весь трек с уклоном в R&B возбуждает и парализует. Прекрасный припев, нежный и размеренный бит, слушать который сплошное очарование. -Shelter- пробирает на мурашки, ангельские голоса вокалистов, сильная концовка, невероятно приятно слушать и наслаждаться.”

-Nagamag.com

Chain of Islands has premiered the official music video for their latest ballad track “Shelter” exclusively on CLOUT. The pop duo – made up of Nick Goins and Derek Vautrinot – have creatively crafted a video that not only offers fans a beautiful performance of the track, but gives a sense of nostalgia with its black and white film elements reminiscent of old-Hollywood film. The duo’s performance in the visual is an emotional reflection of the song’s meaning of healing, and having faith in one’s own strength.

“The video for ‘Shelter’ is an effort to capture the feeling of self reflection throughout the times. An isolated moment on the couch when you can take an honest look inward to reflect on who you are and where you’re going, and how the feeling must have felt in any era, past to future.” – Chain of Islands

Chain of Islands is a pop duo originally formed in Boston, MA and currently split between Orange County, CA and Providence, RI. Nick and Derek both met through playing in heavier rock acts (Lions Lions and Que Sera) from the New England area. After years of heavily touring the rock/hardcore scene, both members decided to collaborate and pursue new creative avenues leading to the birth of Chain of Islands. The band is excited to release their debut EP slated for release this summer.

Breagh Isabel – Girlfriends (Video)

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , |

“There was no limit to our enjoyment when we heard this track. In less than three minutes’ time you are poured with many bright and unusual sound elements, which immediately attract every attention. -Girlfriends- is a quite romantic track, which we safely recommend for daily listening.”

“Нашей феерии восторга не было предела, когда мы услышали этот трек. Все неполные три минуты на вас выливаются много ярких и необычных звуковых элементов, которые сразу привлекают к себе своё внимание. -Girlfriends- приподнятый, сдержанный, и очень романтичный трек, который можно смело рекомендовать для ежедневного прослушивания.”

-Nagamag.com

Breagh Isabel – the Halifax-based and Cape Breton Island-born recording artist, songwriter and producer – has released her debut single today, “Girlfriends,” along with the official video . The song helps usher in her new recording contract with Warner Music Canada.

https://breaghisabel.com/

“Girlfriends” is a pop-leaning, coming-of-age story about a very specific type of heartbreak; the kind that comes from being a lovesick teenager in less welcoming times. The song emerged from a session with one of her Canadian songwriting crushes, Simon Wilcox (Nick Jonas, Selena Gomez, Lennon Stella). Isabel offered up the lyrics, “maybe we were homophobic” and like an astute therapist, Wilcox instantly started peeling back the layers, unravelling a closely kept story that needed to be told, and thus “Girlfriends” was born.

https://www.instagram.com/breaghisabel/?hl=en

“I had no firm intention of delving into a solo artist project when I wrote ‘Girlfriends,’ but the song easily became the most honest thing I had ever written. I started to feel like I had something to say that might resonate,” says Isabel. “The song is about little – and sometimes big – moments and thoughts I didn’t know what to do with at the time, but now realize were just expressions of me figuring out who I am.”

https://twitter.com/breaghisabel?lang=en

The theme of heartbreak is vivid in the accompanying music video, filmed in both Vancouver and Halifax. The video follows two high school students (played by Carolyn Yu and Cassidy Foley) as they explore burgeoning feelings, echoing the lyrics of Isabel’s song. The video was funded in part by the MVP Project, produced by Shelby Manton of Boldly and directed by Tamara Black.

https://www.facebook.com/breaghisabel

Sonically, “Girlfriends” pairs thought-provoking, emotive storytelling with dynamic percussion and bouncy electric guitar that counterintuitively make the song feel catchy and calming all at once. Airy vocal swells and synths off the top of the track set the stage for the song’s dream-like reflection. In her signature smoky timbre, Isabel sings, “I wanted to be girlfriends, but we were just girl friends,” revealing the painful standstill of confusion and loss that comes from love unrequited.

“It’s a bit of a sad song wrapped up in a happy-sounding package. The lyrics don’t really tell a hopeful story,” Isabel spills. “The resolution comes from the fact that I can own the experience and re-tell it from a place of happiness.”

Though Girlfriends signals the start of her own solo career, Breagh Isabel’s creative handiwork will likely already be familiar to music audiences. Isabel has written for and been featured on the records of artists like Classified, Ria Mae, Donovan Woods and BANNERS. While the world was in lockdown, she cut her teeth in production and signed a publishing deal with Concord Music. Her tracks have already been featured on the megahit show Grey’s Anatomy and the superhero series Batwoman. She also toured throughout Canada and Europe and gained international recognition during her time as a member of the band Port Cities. Mostly writing for others, she would often tuck little ideas away that seemed overly personal, but with “Girlfriends, Breagh Isabel is now ready to begin a new chapter all her own.
