Categories: Audio, Jazz, The Latest|Tags: , , , , , , , |

“A track full of emotion and a feeling of loss that somehow also has a sense of hope. The trumpets and flute are reminiscing perhaps? A good time with loved ones or with good friends? A time in the past that holds precious memories? Melancholic guitars and lamenting harmonies will transport you to your special place.”

-Nagamag.com

A collaboration between Lowbelly and one of the member's sons. Venec is a producer by his own right of chill and trap music (venecbeats.com)

Lowbelly is Jeremy and Tristan. They began in 1995. This latest work is their first album since 2008. It was released on 4/23/2021. It's a celebration of their victory against the forces which were opposed to Lowbelly's union - it's triumph over trauma; solidarity over isolation; accomplishment over addiction; dawn over darkness.

A portion of Lowbelly's bandcamp proceeds of this album will go to the Family Justice Center Foundation of Idaho who helps victims of various types of abuse, trafficking, and assault.

Lowbelly is:
Tristan Andreas (also solo artist and member of Phantahex)

Josephine Philip – Call My Name (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , , , , |

“There are no words that can convey the beauty of the melody from -Call My Name-. Sound smooth as the sea surface from a bright, sunny day. Sound aesthetics with their own space. You don't notice how fast are four minutes of composition and you are back to your home port.”

“Нет ни одного слова, которое сможет передать всю красоту мелодии -Call My Name-. Звучание ровное, как морская гладь в яркий, солнечный день. Настоящая эстетика звука, в которой есть свой собственный космос. Не замечаешь, как быстро проходят четыре минуты композиции и ты возвращаешься в свою родную гавань.”

-Nagamag.com

Call My Name is a song about love and longing. The longing to be together, to be important, to be held, to be adored, to be missed and ultimately, the burning longing for somebody ready to make sacrifices to save you. A respite from the ordinary terrors we often face alone. It is also a song about staying strong under unbearable conditions and finding strength in loss. The insisting and mesmerizing vocal - equally strong and fragile, is accompanied by a sparse and dreamy composition with trippy drums. It pushes and pulls with the raw strength of the tide. Immersive and confident, the song engulfs you and carries you away.

Singer, composer and performer Josephine Philip lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Her work is influenced by a multitude of artistic expressions; choir works, contemporary art and performance, jazz standards, experimental music, film, literature and classical music. Call My Name is the first single from Josephine Philip as a solo artist.

Philip began working on her forthcoming album during the winter of 2019 and the process accelerated in the pandemic year of 2020. The mutual isolation that many of us shared, became a catalyst for the process and both compositions and lyrics resonate the personal and communal experiences of this period - cycles of intense being, joy, despair, love, frustration and careful optimism, shattered by pessimism, and then briefly relieved by hope.

The songs are written and produced in collaboration with Copenhagen based producer and musician Lasse Martinussen.

“Lyrical jazz composition and carefully constructed leisurely narrative. Colourful harmony, melody and soft light background instrumentation. At such moments, you realize that this music is a product of its time and that today it is, more than ever, important and urgent.”

“Лирическая джазовая композиция, в которой бережно построено неторопливое повествование. Красочная гармония, нежная мелодия и лёгкая фоновая инструментовка. В такие моменты осознаёшь, что подобная музыка продукт своего времени и именно сегодня она как никогда важна и актуальна.”

Andrew Poston – Embarrassed (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , , , |

“Acoustic music with cheerful arrangement and emotional solos. This song bring us closer to something very distant and certainly bright. It creates a very warm nostalgic mood and the vocals of -Andrew Poston- worth special praise. Striking timbre with invisible arrows of Cupid that fall in the heart.”

“Акустическая музыка, бодрая аранжировка, душевное соло, под которое вспоминается что-то очень далёкое и непременно светлое. Создаётся очень тёплый ностальгический настрой, а вокал -Andrew Poston- требует отдельной похвалы. Поразительный тембр, чьи невидимые стрелы Купидона попадают точно в сердце.”

Artist shared with Nagamag few words behihd this song inspiration:

"This song is a groovy, fun, and feel-good bop that is sure to put listeners in a great mood. I wrote the song from my own awkward, naive, and unaware perspective. It's all about the feeling you get when you realize that you're in love with someone, but you don't quite know how to tell them. The groove is very Shawn Mendes inspired with a John Mayer guitar flare." - Andrew Poston

LearningToDive – I’ll Smile (feat. Bravo Bonez) (Video)

“Instantly magnetic, is it Bowie? Is it Audience? No it’s ‘LearningToDive’ a project of New Zealand producer Bravo Bonez. Well, you can rip those L plates up for sure Bravo. ‘I’ll Smile’ is a performance of the highest magnitude. The story of a secret relationship coming to an end, delivered with consummate style & effortless virtuosity. Pure class. ”

-Nagamag.com

The single ‘I’ll Smile’ is one of the 11 tracks from LearningToDive’s recent debut album titled ‘Norwegian Pop’, which was released on the 2nd of April 2021. The single ‘I’ll Smile is heavily driven by sophisti-pop, melancholic, downtempo tones, and has been described as a cross between Blue Nile and Pink Floyd. With elements of soul, jazz and downtempo-pop, LTD mixes minor sounds from the synth/keys with sadly tired lyricism to express a story one is usually afraid to unleash.

The narrative of the track is based upon two (fictional) persons who have been in a secret relationship for a long time, but it has turned stale. The male protagonist has been fooling around and getting into trouble. His secret partner had been staying clear of him and his dalliances, and has now decided to leave him for good. He knows he deserves it. As she walks away after dumping him, he smiles, knowing it is the right thing for her, soon to also realises, it is the right thing for himself too. But he is still devastated.

Kowloon – Hurt (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Blogwave, The Latest|Tags: , , , , |

“Soft electronic single from the Los Angeles artist "Kowloon". Inspired by his hometown he shows his talent with this organized production. Smooth and friendly sound waves. Warm and pleasant singing mood. All found in "Hurt".”

-Nagamag.com

First single from Kitsune Musiques upcoming Kitsune America compilation. Kowloon’s “Hurt” is a song inspired by Los Angeles in the 70’s - by the earthiness and honesty of the Laurel Canyon scene, and by the pop and lifestyle excesses that ultimately spelled its downfall at the close of that decade. It’s a song of the desert wind, of the twinkling lights of the Los Angeles basin, a song of the gently lapping waves at dusk. The gentle fender rhodes and fender vocals channel Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks, and the vulnerable lyrics owe her songwriting a debt as well. The bassline, however, comes from the nightclubs of the era - A pulsating disco throb that propelled the end of the decade into the excess of the eighties. It is a song about the validity of ones feelings, about finding strength, about setbacks and triumphs. There is a very Los Angeles feeling, when one is stuck in interminable traffic, on a hot afternoon. You learn to find a unique joy in this annoyance - you roll down your window, turn up the radio, and feel the breeze on your sweaty skin. Perhaps the song playing is “Hurt.”

Hurt was written, played, performed and mixed by Kowloon, and produced alongside Florida visual-artist and producer Offbeat Ninja.

Kowloon is a musician and filmmaker from Los Angeles, California. His debut album, ‘Come Over’, was written, performed, recorded and mixed in his home-studio in the industrial outskirts of the city. Blending vintage synths, drum machines, and bubbling bass lines with vocals inspired equally by The Talking Heads, Peter Gabriel, and Sly Stone, ‘Come Over’ is 35 minutes of danceable love songs - albeit love songs set in a time of digital malaise and looming ecological catastrophe, with anxious, dread-filled lyrics that are as timely as they are post-apocalyptic.

Porcelain – Hold Me In The Dark (Video)

Categories: Electronica, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“The concept is very clever & I will not give it away here. You will have to listen & decide for yourselves. Will the music seduce you? Will the singer invoke a feeling of love or lust within you? Maybe both? You will feel something. I guarantee it, but what?”

-Nagamag.com

‘Hold Me In The Dark’ is deliberately bittersweet, inviting listeners to choose whether to hear darkness or light in both the instrumentation and the lyrics.

For those that hear darkness ‘Hold Me In The Dark’ sets the scene with a picturesque but hazy description of an illicit love affair laced with betrayal and obsession. This tortured scene romanticizes unrequited love and the longing to embrace the reality through an embrace.

While for those that hear light ‘Hold Me In The Dark’ is a serenely beautiful midnight dance, enveloped in the arms of the one you love, while long velvet drapes blow and candles flicker in a balmy summer breeze. ‘Hold Me In The Dark’ was inspired by Carl Jung’s concept of the shadow self which proclaims “I must have a dark side also if I am to be whole”.

Kowloon – Hollywood is Under Water (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Blogwave, The Latest|Tags: , , , , |

“Do you feel lazy today? Not willing to do much? Explore this new chilling work from "Kowloon"; a Californian musician and filmmaker. Dive into the cool seawater coming out from the electronic loops that lead you through a world of fantasy.”

-Nagamag.com

Hollywood is Underwater is a funky, feel-good indie rock transmission from the Post-Apocalypse. Part "Sledgehammer"-era Peter Gabriel and Part "Once In a- Lifetime" Talking Heads, this track slots nicely between Wild Nothing and Mac Demarco. The song is told by a lovelorn survivor on the sunken west coast of America. The bass line bounces, the synths bubble, and the relaxed vocal makes the End of The World sound like an ok place to be.

Goya – Yesterday (Spotify)

“Yes, we found a miracle in the face of -Yesterday-. The composition that completely justifies its name. Empty showcases in the pale night light, barely noticeable drop of rain and a rainbow of sound effects mixed with a simple, but very catchy melody.”

“Да, это чудо в лице композиции -Yesterday/Midnight Alley- полностью оправдывает своё название. Бледный свет догорающих в ночи витрин, едва ощутимые капли дождя и радуга из звуковых эффектов наложенными на простую, но очень запоминающуюся мелодию.”
