Blak Emoji – Swooning On You (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Jazz, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“"UBlak Emoji" turned out to create a very juicy single with warm sound. In "Swooning On You", there's a romantic neo-soul touch, incredibly cozy content for an equally cozy setting.”

“У -Blak Emoji- получилось создать очень сочное и при этом ламповое звучание, которое согревает своим теплом. В -Swooning On You- много романтического neo-soul звучания, невероятно уютное содержание для не менее уютной обстановки.”

Fronted by singer, producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kelsey Warren, NYC band Blak Emoji have shared their latest single, “Swooning On You”. Having built a following and received critical acclaim for their previous work over the last few years, the band’s self-produced and independently released new track is another impressive entry into their growing discography. It follows “Mechanism”, which was released earlier this year, and precedes the band’s forthcoming album due for release in October.

Playing drums since the age of 5 and guitar and piano since the age of 12, Kelsey showcases his full production range on “Swooning On You”, expertly and seamlessly blending together R&B, soul, electronic and pop – i.e. all the sounds he was immersed in throughout his childhood growing up in South Jersey – with a fresh and modern twist. “I was working on this beat in Logic on and off for a few weeks”, says Kelsey. “I had the drum pattern and bassline down but went back and forth experimenting with sounds and ambient textures for quite a while.

“The lyrics were inspired by a recent conversation, and once the lyrical lightbulb turned on, the melody came out of nowhere. I completed the music, recorded the vocals in a day, put it all together and mixed it. The song describes a 'love at first connection' vibe. That feeling you have when you relate to a person instantly without explanation.”

Having carved out their own lane with a unique sound and style, “Swooning On You” looks set to continue the band’s impressive rise. And with more new music to be unveiled in the coming months in the lead-up to their anticipated new album, they are undoubtedly an act to watch out for over the next year. “Swooning On You” is available to buy/stream now on all platforms: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/blakemoji/swooning-on-you

“Необычное, от того и запоминающееся сочетание таких жанров, как neo-soul, downtempo и элементы nu jazz. Лирически оформленная композиция, инструментальная интродукция постепенно вводит в трек, а первоклассное звуковое оформление делает всё, чтобы остаться в памяти слушателя навсегда.”

I felt a real sense of freedom working on this song. It was really fresh and exciting to work with a new palette of sounds alongside an awesome collective of musicians that let me do my thing.”

She goes on to add: “The melody came instinctively and led me into this unresolved feeling of unrequited love, We’ve all been there – when the pain of waiting to hear from someone, leaves you in limbo and can have a maddening and numbing effect on your mind. Whitney McClain – Fall So Far – Focus Track Edit (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Jazz, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“-Whitney McClain- frankly tells us about her bright and strong feelings. The lyric joining at the beginning of the composition is interrupted with a juicy bit, increasing in the chorus and flowing into a melodic solo. Very expressive neo-soul for the soul.”

“-Whitney McClain- откровенно повествует о своих светлых и сильных чувствах. Лирическое вступление в начале композиции перебивается сочным битом, усиливающемся в припеве, перетекающий в мелодичное соло в проигрыше. Очень выразительный neo-soul для души.”

-Nagamag.com

“Fall So Far” is a song about falling out of love and breaking up with someone that you thought the love you had would last forever.

https://www.instagram.com/whitneymcmusic

At first glance, it’s an unbelievable story. However, it’s easy to believe as soon as you hear Whitney McClain sing…

Born and raised in Willamette Valley, Oregon, the singer and songwriter began singing as soon as she could talk. Music became her number one focus until two brain surgeries threatened her life. Emboldened by her family and faith, she recovered and immersed herself in music as soon as she could.

“I’m so blessed,” she comments. “Music has always spoken to me. It soothes my soul. Even during some difficult times, it’s music that helped me heal.”

Her music began to have the same effect on others almost immediately. Emerging in 2015, Whitney’s debut single “Bombs Away,” racked up over 1 million views on YouTube. Hot on its heels, she returned with the 2016 EP, Nothing To Lose, which spawned three singles that each joined the million views club. Meanwhile, she garnered a nomination from the Independent Music Awards for “Urban EP of the Year.”

Simultaneously, her songs impacted airwaves via iHeartRadio, Sirius/XM, Music Choice, and beyond, while Next2Shine touted her as “Artist of the Month,” and she garnered acclaim from Urban Vault and Prodigii Source One. A live force to be reckoned with, she joined heavy hitters such as The Ohio Players with a powerhouse performance of her own at the Soul’D Out Music Festival.

Following this success, she didn’t rest on her laurels. Instead, she went full steam ahead in the studio working on her second EP for Gold Dust LLC, releasing “Cruise” as a lead single and introduction to the next body of work.

After much acclaim and surpassing 1.7 million views with “Cruise,” the stage is now set for the unveiling of the follow-up single, “Fireplace;” a soulful love song with a vivid depiction of an irresistible love interest. Co-written by McClain and produced by popular U.K. production duo Da Beatfreakz, “Fireplace” does not disappoint and is another dynamic precursor to the forthcoming body of work.

It lays the perfect foundation for her EP, which harks back to a myriad of formative influences. “Co-writing and having more input on all of the tracks has allowed me to put my style on my new songs. I grew up listening to Motown, Michael Jackson, Earth, Wind & Fire, as well as Amy Winehouse, Beyoncé, and Adele, and I love trying to mix the old-school sound with my favorite influences. I am an old soul at heart.”

This old soul has a bright future ahead. “The goal is to keep going, to keep improving both as a person and an artist,” she concludes. “Hopefully, my music continues to reach and inspire people to overcome the hard times that can come up in life. Music is such an important part of my life and I believe it can speak for us when words are not enough. I hope to continue to share my story, my music, and see what doors God opens for me.”

“-I Hate The Way That I Love You- was produced as very atmospheric, regarding the whole composition and its mood. There is a clear feeling that the author introduces her listener into a strong conceptual canvas. -Lhēon- vocals sound organically in the frame of the musical concept invented by her.”

“-I Hate The Way That I Love You- выдался весьма атмосферным, как по композиции в целом, так и по настроению. Создаётся явное ощущение, что автор вводит своего слушателя в сильное концептуальное полотно. Вокал -LHĒON- органично звучит в рамках придуманной автором музыкальной концепции.”

-Nagamag.com

Sweedish born, Melbourne based Neo-Soul singer-songwriter LHĒON has unveiled her brand new track, “I Hate The Way That I Love You”. Fiercely powerful, LHĒON is reaching new heights with her latest funk-tinged offering.

In striking contrast to her previous releases, the electrifying “I Hate The Way That I Love You” is jam packed with a stylish Motown inspired soundscape, topped off by the endlessly powerful and distinctive vocals of LHĒON. Written and produced by Lee Bradshaw, LHĒON brings her commanding presence to the expertly written track. Led by the constant drum beat, sassy hooks and a groove fuelled organ instrumentation, the vibrant anthemic nature of this offering has culminates in a punchy and exhilarating listen.

When asked about her new release LHĒON shared:

I, and the release of the unforgettable “elique” and “pretend”, “I Hate The Way That I Love You” marks the beginning of a new sound with a new EP, Full Disclosure Pt. II.

“Balance as a source of life, being in a forgotten and immersed in an incredibly malleable and penetrating musical world of -Do What You Love-. It makes a strong impression. Not so much for its charming lyrics as for the overall sound approach.”

“Баланс, как источник жизни, оказавшись в котором забываешься и погружаешься в невероятно тягучий и пронизывающий музыкальный мир композиции -Do What You Love-. Производит очень сильное впечатление. Не столько своей очаровательной лирикой, сколько подходом к звуку в целом.”

Sargeant X Comrade – Beautiful (Video)

Categories: Jazz, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , , , |

“Essentially, a combination of art, music & poetry in a YouTube video format, Sargeant X Comrade, ‘Beautiful’ delivers a soulful & melodic lead vocal over a simple guitar scat chordal pattern, soft percussion that in parts is reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix ‘Little Wing’ There are some interesting vocal harmonies and drop-in’s that really enhance the track.”

-Nagamag.com

Another art video from the Lo fi soul group Sargeant X Comrade. Beautiful is an attempt at conveying the feeling of falling in love through a visual narrative. Taking the “falling” part literal the video blurs the line between reality and fantasy. Reminiscent of a painting done in a contemporary fashion using video techniques instead of the traditional oils and canvas, Beautiful by Sargeant X Comrade combines art, music and poetry into one.
