“-A river in winter / mnemosyne- can hypnotize you from the first seconds. The vocals of -camie- seep in the heart so deeply that you want to stop time and fully immerse yourself in this charming atmosphere. This is the music you want to listen.”

“-a river in winter / mnemosyne- гипнотизирует с первых секунд. Вокал -Camie- настолько глубоко просачивается в самое сердце, что хочется остановить время и полностью погрузиться в эту чарующую атмосферу. Музыка, которую нужно слушать и слышать.”

-Nagamag.com

Artist shared few words about this song inspiration:

"I wrote 'a river in winter / mnemosyne' when I lived abroad in England, but deeply missed the winter rivers in my home country of Canada where I used to walk, with loved ones, every morning. The first half of the song is a reflection on my favourite winter river, and the second half is a plea to the Greek goddess of memory, Mnemosyne, to always be remembered by the places and people that I love most." Toronto-based singer/songwriter and multi-award-winning storyteller Camie has long enchanted audiences with her delicate queer-feminist croonings, rich vocal tones, and lush poetic imagination. After years of playing intimate gigs across southwestern Ontario and parts of the United Kingdom, the now-24-year-old songstress is plunging into unfiltered, unshackled creative expression with the release of her cinematic ambient folk concept EP, troubadour.

troubadour is a thrilling and soul-stirring addition to the contemporary Canadian folk canon. Imbued with soaring synth and string textures, it paints a portrait of a young woman in control, moving through vast physical and emotional landscapes with razor sharp intuition. Forging her own passage through the motions of love and loss, connection and disconnection, memory and presence, troubadour shows the artist at her most raw and vulnerable. The record is a brave expression of queer womanhood, of running away and getting lost in the world, of falling in and out of love with shifting people and places, and of returning home at the end of a long journey.

Camie’s confessional prose and poignant lyricism draws inspiration from great Canadiana songbirds, including Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen, and more contemporary influences such as Fiona Apple, Phoebe Bridgers, Brandi Carlile, and Laura Marling. troubadour was written and produced in complete isolation during the 2nd and 3rd wave of the COVID-19 pandemic alongside Toronto-based producer and instrumentalist, Mike Tompa (TOMPA, Silverstein, First Ghost, Deadwinter, Pine Pitch; projects with Universal/Island Records, Epic/Sony Records, and Century Media).

Camie is the alternative folk project of award-winning Tkaronto-based multidisciplinary performance artist, Camille Intson. Her writing, performance work, conceptual art, and music has received international attention and critical acclaim. She can be found everywhere online at @thecamiliad, or at camilleintson.com.

“‘Boots’ is my introduction to the world as a solo artist,” Hawthorne shares in a press release. “The way the intro is stripped down to a guitar and my vocals, as well as the message of the song discussing women in the world and in the music industry, felt like a good representation of where I am as an artist today.”

The breakout single is accompanied by the release of Hawthorne’s first official music video. Shot in the midst of the pandemic, the video follows Hawthorne as she makes the best of a snowy evening quarantined at home with her husband is inspired by non other than her trusty boots and a well-poured Old Fashioned.

Arther Blue – Parallelogram (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Rock, The Latest|Tags: , , , , |

“A warm summer breeze between soft silky sheets, while embracing your lover. Arther Blue has done it, captured the essence of sensuality on this track. ”

-Nagamag.com

Parallelogram is a haunting folk ballad anchored by sparse guitar movements. Lyrically, Parallelogram is a looping meditation on intimacy. The song admits a deep sense of yearning to fully know and be known by someone, while recognizing the impossibility of truly being one with someone. Nevertheless, Arther celebrates that two lives can run parallel and finds joy in those brief moments of near-total understanding between two lovers. The instrumentals illustrate this theme as well — the guitar shifts between two parallel chords that share no notes in common, yet together evoke a profound sense of bittersweet joy.

Constant Follower – The Merry Dancers on TV (Official Shimmy-Disc Video) (Video)

Categories: Features, Pop, Pop Features, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“Feel good and dreamy is the expression of this imaginative sound. Constant Follower has done it, bottled up the sounds of a beautiful dream . ”

-Nagamag.com

*Video premiered on Brooklyn Vegan, Glide Magazine, Indie Music Blog and A Pessimist Is Never Disappointed. We’re looking for video/song coverage from Friday 20th Aug.

“The Merry Dancers on TV is gently affecting. A haunting ramble pitched at the place occupied by both Arab Strap and Bon Iver, this elegantly mellow song is something special indeed. It also helps that the video for the composition is just as memorable.” A Pessimist Is Never Disappointed

“The Merry Dancers on TV combines the introspective chamber folk of Fleet Foxes and The Frames, atop a mystical nod laid beneath stunning simplicity.” Glide Magazine

“The Merry Dancers on TV is a lovely piece of delicate folk rock and comes with a gorgeous stop-motion animated video.” Brooklyn Vegan

The Merry Dancers on TV is the first single from Constant Follower’s debut album ‘Neither Is, Nor Ever Was’ on the legendary Shimmy Disc label (Low, Galaxie 500, Daniel Johnston, Bonnie Prince Billy).

In ‘Scots’ (a traditional language spoken in Scotland), natural phenomena are often given beautiful phrasing – the ‘Merry Dancers’ of the song being the Scots term for the Aurora Borealis. The song speaks to the things in life we miss in the bustle and stresses of modern living. In writing the song, McAll was thinking of a particular episode where friends missed the real Merry Dancers above their cottage whilst they were indoors watching a documentary about them.

Co-produced by Scottish singer-songwriter Stephen McAll and renowned producer and Shimmy-Disc founder Kramer (Low, Galaxie 500, Will Oldham), the recording for Neither Is, Nor Ever Was began in early 2020 at La Chunky studios in Glasgow with engineer Johnny Smillie. This was interrupted by the birth of McAll’s daughter (if you listen closely, her cries are just audible during some of Kessi’s backing vocals on ‘Little Marble’), and shortly afterwards by Covid 19 restrictions. McAll began recording the rest at his own CFFC studio in Stirling. The resulting recordings were then mixed and mastered by Kramer at his Noise Miami Studio, to breathtaking effect.

Each album track is accompanied by its own short film. McAll sought-out the most exciting new talents in Scottish film and animation and invited them to be part of the album project. Each video, the artist’s personal response to the song, with no direction or interference from the band, resulting in incredibly moving and enchanting short ‘films’ in their own right (with multiple film festival considerations including Edinburgh International Film Festival and Manchester Film Festival in process).

“Making art together is something that transcends any distance and that was definitely confirmed over the period of making this film. Being able to work with a local band while being trusted with such a stunning song made any physical distance feel obsolete. Constant Follower’s choice to work with new and emerging artists for their videos meant that I, as an artist, was able to create something unlike anything I’ve had the ability to before. This is my second foray into stop motion and I have learned so much from this project alone- skills that would have taken me years to learn in any other setting. The film, at its core; is about connection and how easy it is to lose it if we start taking things for granted in life. I liked the idea that even the moon herself could tire of being taken for granted and head off on a holiday only for one child to notice it missing and go on a voyage to let it know how much it is loved and respected.” – Fiona (Video Director)

“One of the most beautiful records I have ever been privileged to be a part of, filled to the very brim with moment after moment of poetic clarity, and not a moment too late…an interior force to be reckoned with. I’ve never experienced anything quite like it. It weaves elements of the past around a future I was wholly unaware of before hearing these breath-taking songs, each one a kind of memorial to a memory that may or may not have merely been imagined or hoped into existence.” – Kramer

Jenny Kern – Where Did The Time Go (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , , |

“The sound in -Where Did The Time Go- is like a transparent river or a small waterfall. The likes of Indie and Dream Pop genres with charming vocals of -Jenny Kern- contribute to this. The mood is exciting and at the same time calm and serene. A real gift for hungry listener souls.”

“Звучание в -Where Did The Time Go- похоже на прозрачную реку или небольшой водопад. Этому способствуют жанры Indie и Dream Pop и очаровательный вокал -Jenny Kern-. Настроение волнующее и в то же время спокойное и безмятежное. Настоящий подарок для изголодавшихся душ.”

-Nagamag.com

Few words from the artist about this song:

“Where Did The Time Go” is a relentlessly honest song about a constant struggle with anxiety. "I started writing this song in the midst of the pandemic while having an existential crisis of not knowing what my purpose was or why I was existing." The production is layered with lush synths and vivacious rhythms all while addressing the decidedly heavy search for life’s meaning. It strikes the listener with a kind of honest confusion. In a gentle tone, Jenny throws questions into the universe (“Where did the good go?/Where did it go?”) and seems to give up before they’re answered (“Cause I don’t know, I don’t know where to go anymore,” and later, “Maybe there’s nothing left/Maybe there’s nothing left”). Ultimately this song doesn’t put on a front or filter the darker thoughts and shows that with each release Jenny’s sound feels bigger and brighter than the last.

Cypress – Running Like the Wind (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Rock, The Latest|Tags: , , , , |

“Bright acoustic melody, innovative, expressive mood and incredibly juicy vocals from Ben Higginbotham - all this indicates an extremely high-quality work and automatically raise it among the best of its genre.”

“Яркая акустическая мелодия, новаторские, выразительные ударные и невероятный сочный вокал Ben Higginbotham – всё это указывает на чрезвычайно качественную работу и автоматически делают её, пожалуй, лучшей в своём жанре.”

-Nagamag.com

Artist shared few words behind his inspiration for this song:

"I wrote this song about being there for someone no matter where you are. Was definitely inspired initially by "You've got a Friend" by James Taylor; however, I was listening to a lot of Bruce Springsteen when we produced it, so by the end it had turned into a rock n roll track."

Cypress is the indie folk, singer-songwriter project of Ben Higginbotham. Born in Dallas but based in LA, Ben was inspired by his childhood spent glued to the piano and listening to the crooning voices of Texas singer-songwriter legends like Ruthie Foster and Lyle Lovett to pursue his passion for music early on.

Shortly after graduating from Berklee College of Music in 2017, Ben created Cypress — a soulful, emotional solo project reflective of his personal and professional growth. Evoking artists like Ray LaMontagne, Ben Howard, and Hozier, Cypress’ indie folk/folk rock sound is rich and textured yet melodic and straightforward — often weaving lyric-driven stories of relationships, family and coming-of-age with a reflective and nostalgic tone. With crisp, powerful lyrics and relatable, universal themes underlying each song, Cypress’ music shines in its smooth approachability and ease of listening.

Released in November 2018, Cypress’ first EP A Fine Line was recorded and produced in Austin, TX by longtime collaborator Taylor Tatsch. Cypress’ most recent single “Take Me Back” was produced by Floyd Fuji and released in August 2020.

Lennie Rayen – Like You Do (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , , |

“In the track -Like You Do-, the composer's and performer's talent is mostly pronounced. Soft bits, acoustic instruments and fascinating vocals, which seems to hug you by the shoulders. Pour a cup of tea, open the windows and feel the smell of meadow colours.”

“В треке -Like You Do- наиболее ярко проявляется талант композитора и исполнительницы -Lennie Rayen-. Мягкий бит, акустические инструменты и завораживающий вокал, который словно обнимает вас за плечи; наливает чашечку горячего чая, открывает окна и впускает в дом запахи луговых цветов. ”
