Whitney McClain – Fall So Far – Focus Track Edit (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Jazz, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“-Whitney McClain- frankly tells us about her bright and strong feelings. The lyric joining at the beginning of the composition is interrupted with a juicy bit, increasing in the chorus and flowing into a melodic solo. Very expressive neo-soul for the soul.”

“-Whitney McClain- откровенно повествует о своих светлых и сильных чувствах. Лирическое вступление в начале композиции перебивается сочным битом, усиливающемся в припеве, перетекающий в мелодичное соло в проигрыше. Очень выразительный neo-soul для души.”

“Fall So Far” is a song about falling out of love and breaking up with someone that you thought the love you had would last forever.

At first glance, it’s an unbelievable story. However, it’s easy to believe as soon as you hear Whitney McClain sing…

Born and raised in Willamette Valley, Oregon, the singer and songwriter began singing as soon as she could talk. Music became her number one focus until two brain surgeries threatened her life. Emboldened by her family and faith, she recovered and immersed herself in music as soon as she could.

“I’m so blessed,” she comments. “Music has always spoken to me. It soothes my soul. Even during some difficult times, it’s music that helped me heal.”

Her music began to have the same effect on others almost immediately. Emerging in 2015, Whitney’s debut single “Bombs Away,” racked up over 1 million views on YouTube. Hot on its heels, she returned with the 2016 EP, Nothing To Lose, which spawned three singles that each joined the million views club. Meanwhile, she garnered a nomination from the Independent Music Awards for “Urban EP of the Year.”

Simultaneously, her songs impacted airwaves via iHeartRadio, Sirius/XM, Music Choice, and beyond, while Next2Shine touted her as “Artist of the Month,” and she garnered acclaim from Urban Vault and Prodigii Source One. A live force to be reckoned with, she joined heavy hitters such as The Ohio Players with a powerhouse performance of her own at the Soul’D Out Music Festival.

Following this success, she didn’t rest on her laurels. Instead, she went full steam ahead in the studio working on her second EP for Gold Dust LLC, releasing “Cruise” as a lead single and introduction to the next body of work.

After much acclaim and surpassing 1.7 million views with “Cruise,” the stage is now set for the unveiling of the follow-up single, “Fireplace;” a soulful love song with a vivid depiction of an irresistible love interest. Co-written by McClain and produced by popular U.K. production duo Da Beatfreakz, “Fireplace” does not disappoint and is another dynamic precursor to the forthcoming body of work.

It lays the perfect foundation for her EP, which harks back to a myriad of formative influences. “Co-writing and having more input on all of the tracks has allowed me to put my style on my new songs. I grew up listening to Motown, Michael Jackson, Earth, Wind & Fire, as well as Amy Winehouse, Beyoncé, and Adele, and I love trying to mix the old-school sound with my favorite influences. I am an old soul at heart.”

This old soul has a bright future ahead. “The goal is to keep going, to keep improving both as a person and an artist,” she concludes. “Hopefully, my music continues to reach and inspire people to overcome the hard times that can come up in life. Music is such an important part of my life and I believe it can speak for us when words are not enough. I hope to continue to share my story, my music, and see what doors God opens for me.”

Dutch Falconi – La Amante Del Inquisidor (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Features, Jazz, Jazz Features, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“-La amante del Inquisidor- made from soft and very pleasant percussion, jazz elements and live music. All this is really sedative for the soul. It happens that you do not know what to expect from the next portion of this being revered by many genres, but this composition is acting in a special way. Unforgettable impression!”

“-La Amante Del Inquisidor- мягкая и очень приятная перкуссия, джазовые элементы, живая музыка, всё это настоящее успокоительное для души. Бывает, что не знаешь чего ожидать от очередной порции этого почитаемого многими жанра, но эта композиция воздействует особым образом. Незабываемое впечатление!”

-Nagamag.com

Composer Dutch Falconi’s sophomore solo album, Curious Fabrications, out on Aurore Records July 23rd, is a sonic sleight of hand. It’s a film noir-ish adventure set in the big, cold, naked city, with the songs functioning as a roadmap for the intrepid listener to follow. Each track is a puzzle piece in the unfolding of the listener’s personalized narrative, one motivated by the fruitful ambiguity of the music. Is it a crime you’re solving? Probably. Are there clues? Everywhere. Are there dangerous and sexy characters to encounter? You bet. Hang onto your seats.

https://www.facebook.com/DutchFalconiMusician/

“I hope the pieces themselves lead to narratives conjured up in the mind of the listener. I prefer an unfixed perspective with music where the listener participates by bringing their own imagination to the pieces, and that contributes to their perception of the album. They’re part of the ensemble that way,” the Sacramento, California-based artist shares.

In the heyday of the 1990’s swing revival movement, Dutch led The Dutch Falconi Orchestra, a 27-piece swing orchestra juggernaut, replete with go-go dancers. From 1989-2000, he was the band’s benevolent dictator and composer, conductor, mechanic, bank and therapist. The small city of a group made 3 three records and shared stages with the big cats of the day like Cherry Poppin’ Daddies and the Royal Crown Revue. Dutch retired from the bandstand to pursue other creative ventures outside of music, but in 2020 resurfaced with a clutch of singles and a wildly eclectic solo debut, Bloom & Brimstone.

http://instagram.com/dutchfalconi

Curious Fabrications builds upon the success of his first solo bow, and like that album Dutch is the sole writer, player/performer, and producer. The similarities stop there. In keeping with the overarching theme of fruitful ambiguity, Dutch has created a swing album where nearly everything is synthetic and virtual with a tiny tidbit of Dutch’s actual playing. This album is a showcase for Dutch’s original swing era compositions, his flamboyant musicality, and his fearless imagination.

The single, La Amante Del Inquisidor, slinks forth with theatrical flair. The song exudes a hard-to-pin-down ethnic quality, and instead of being an appropriation, it is a melting pot of sounds. The tune boasts a vaguely klezmer melody set into a mildly Spanish flamenco framework performed with 40’s Latin dance band instrumentation. It’s an intriguing mélange of cultures and sounds that could possibly only come to fruition while twiddling one’s thumbs during pandemic downtime. “For me, the lockdown brought the delicious opportunity to stretch out,” Dutch shares. “I had the luxury of time to experiment. I frequently set out to reorder and recombine elements from tangentially related styles. The intention was to hit on some crooked math, like, 1+1+1=4, where the sum of the parts might make something surprising and unexpected. Something beautiful, wild and curious while being charged with passion and mystery.”

“An easy listening track that is light & refreshing. With a distinctly 80’s funky, disco vibe ‘Like You In Every Way’ by Fox Jackson carries with it a positive message & comfortable feel. The instrumentation, vocals & guitar especially has that ‘Chic’ style sound that one would associate with the dance hall floor fillers of yesteryear. ”

-Nagamag.com

London based singer/songwriter Fox Jackson has been enamoured by music from as young as he can remember. Inspired by the likes of artists such as Earth Wind and Fire, Prince and Pharrell Williams, his music blends funk-fuelled melodies, sexy vocals and dance-worthy beats, creating a vibrant and distinct sound which is undeniably his own.

His career in the entertainment industry began at just 11 years old, when he landed the lead role as Billy Elliot, in the hit West End musical, "Billy Elliot the Musical". His time there solidified his desire to be on stage, while also pushing him to dive deeper into the world of music. Following multiple roles on both stage and TV, Fox soon made an easy transition to his first love and true calling, music. Discovering his own sound and style, Fox has since been crafting music, with the intention to make listeners smile.

Following on from "Behind Closed Doors" is his latest single “Like You In Every Way” - written alongside producer Nick Burns, this floorfiller track is more than just a love song. This is the ice-melting, love-professing, warm sunshine single written during a transition period of Jackson’s relationship, carrying a message of trust and love regardless of doubts. The artist confides, “There is nothing so deadly to a fresh relationship as too many questions, sometimes you just have to let go of those fears and trust that you want to be together.” This is a positive, comforting song sure to put a smile on your face.

The track comes in like a glowing summer breeze of joy and positivity. The guitar has a strong melodic flow layered over the tasty, funky drums forging a rush of energy and movement. With a slapping bass line and a highly intoxicating, dance-worthy fluidity, “Like You In Every Way” features funky riffs and a rich, groovy soundscape, like caramel for your eardrums. The sleek vocals from Jackson are smooth and romantic, glazed in a cheeky energy that gives an undeniable charm to the song.

With an underlying wholesome tone, the organic track brims in authenticity and honesty. Jackson shares, “Music, as with all things in life, is about love. Music for me isn’t just about love, music is a love language. Music interprets my feelings, the feelings of those dear to me and helps me understand my place in the sea of those relation-’ships’”.

Hoping that his music will transport listeners to the golden age of funk, soul and disco, Fox Jackson is producing music for escapism and delivering something that will make you question which decade we are in.
