Sally Rushbrook & The Soothsayers – Haunts (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Jazz, The Latest|Tags: , , , , , |

“A delightful timeless, barroom bluesy, honky-tonk type piano lead tune that is the perfect vehicle for Sally’s wonderful, charming vocals. A song that recounts the way it feels to revisit a special place from your past to find everything, including yourself has changed. I could listen to this song again and again.”

-Nagamag.com

This song is about the feeling we get when retreading old ground, when the places we have grown up in or spent time in seem to change around us but then again perhaps it is us who is changing? It is about that sense of displacement and reflection brought about by that uncanny feeling of revisiting a place and finding it or yourself changed.

Sally Rushbrook's is a music that has forgotten its own age.

Distinctly old in style, these songs draw influence from folk, gypsy jazz and barroom blues. Yet, this music seems as contemporary as ever it might have done when Sally uses these influences to craft narrative songs around characters with unmistakably modern preoccupations.

.

Nagamag:
Which are the genres that describe your music style better?

Estella Dawn:
Pop/Indie/Neo Soul/Electronic/Adult alternative are probably the main genres I write in. I've never been particularly worried about sticking to one genre, what I'm feeling and what I've been listening to impacts the music I make on any given day, I like to roll with that, Sometimes it's rock/pop other days it's laid back indie, you might not enjoy every song I've written but there's a wide range of styles so something might just tickle your fancy.

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

Estella Dawn:
I began classical piano lessons at the age of 9, picked up the guitar a little later, around 13 and started writing more structured songs at that point. Banging away on the keys or strumming the three guitar chords I knew, it really just grew from there. Now I write in my own studio, using Logic. Recording software has helped me to expand my style and flesh out what I hear in my head. Having the ability to create beats and full song instrumentation has made a huge difference in where my songs are now, I've released 12 original songs in 2020/21.

Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

Estella Dawn:
I can't say that there's any specific moment in my childhood that I can attribute my love of music to, it's something I've always just gravitated to. I used to make up songs from a really young age and I was always just drawn to music related activities. Songwriting has become my way to reflect on and process the world and my experiences within it.

Nagamag:
Do you prefer studio or performing live and why?

Estella Dawn:
I enjoy both! However I am definitely more comfortable in the studio. It's easier to nail a vocal take when I'm not also trying to control my nerves. I've always been a pretty shy gal so I find my throat and voice do funny things when I'm performing live. I just have to work around it when I put my set together, I'll start out with easier songs and save the big belting numbers for later on. That being said, there's truly nothing like being on stage, you feel so close and connected to everyone listening, you also get to set the tone and create a mood. I think there's something incredibly special about live music, ultimately it's an experience shared between the people there that night and the performer. The show will be different, every crowd will react differently, every song will be sung/played a little different, you can't recreate that, it's like a snowflake.

Nagamag:
Who would you consider your main musical influences?

Estella Dawn:
Musically I have always been drawn to songwriters with interesting lyrics, or singers with strong vocal performances. Ultimately songs that make you feel something. I would say I draw inspiration from songwriters like Halsey, Jaymes Young and Dermot Kennedy. I also really love that artists like Billie and
Finneas Eilish created such interesting and original music from their house. That they made every creative decision from the songwriting itself to the production and everything in between is incredibly inspiring. I also really admire artists like Sam Cooke, Etta James, Julie London, Ella Fitzgerald, their songs just hit you in all of the right places. It's timeless music and you can't beat the emotion they pour into their singing.

Nagamag:
Many artists listen to genres that they are not producing music for. Which track is your favorite that is NOT similar to yours?

Estella Dawn:
Redbone "Come and Get Your Love"

Nagamag:
Of Course Nagamag would love to listen also which is the track from a similar artist you admire?

Estella Dawn:
Dermot Kennedy ‘Power Over Me’

Lynn Tredeau – Moving Mountains (Spotify)

“In nature, everything is harmonious; The wind blow among trees, rustling leaves in rainy woods and moving ice mist over the high mountain peaks. Feel like a part in the unified system of this creation; -Lynn Tredeau - Moving Mountains-.”

“В природе всё гармонично; шум ветра в кронах деревьев, шелест листвы в дождливом лесу и движение ледяных туманов над высокими пиками гор. Почувствуйте себя частью этой единой системы в творение -Lynn Tredeau - Moving Mountains-.”

-Nagamag.com

Lynn Tredeau shared few words behind this track inspiration:

"Sometimes life throws you a challenge and just getting through the day feels overwhelming. My recent health concerns have definitely forced me to rethink everything in my life and make many adjustments. It feels like MOVING MOUNTAINS, but every step forward is a triumph!"

Lynn Tredeau is an American musician who lives and performs in the Pacific Northwest. She got an early start in music and by the time she was six, her parents arranged for a surprise delivery of her first piano. The surprise part was ruined when Lynn took the call from the delivery company confirming the arrival of her piano, but that didn’t dampen her enthusiasm for playing. She was a natural musician and by the time she was sixteen, Lynn had mastered classical music on her piano, played guitar for her school’s jazz band, flute and clarinet in the orchestra, saxophone in the marching band, and played hymns on the pipe organ at church. Early musical influences range from artists like Nate King Cole to bands like Creedence Clearwater Revival.

She was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. When she and her husband started their family, they relocated to Alaska, where they lived until their children left home to attend college. Lynn taught in the Seattle, WA area until she and her husband retired and settled into rural Idaho. Though she had always wanted to attend college and earn a BA in music, life took Lynn on a different path. She relished her life with her family and devoted most of her time to her husband, children, and home. One year, her husband gifted her with an upright piano to replace the beloved instrument of her childhood. Grateful to have a piano of her own again, she played occasionally—when she could squeeze in a bit of practice between her brood’s many activities. As her children moved into adulthood, music once again became a consuming passion for Lynn. Her dream of owning a grand piano came true, and slowly but surely, she began to transition from playing music others had created, to composing her own original pieces.

After discovering the music of Michele McLaughlin on Pandora, Lynn found her calling in the world of New Age music. She released her debut album, Echoes of Life, in January, 2015, which brought multiple nomination including Best New Artist 2015 by Enlightened Piano. Lynn’s second album, SnowLight (A Christmas Memory), was released in September 2015. It quickly went to #1 on OWMR received many nominations and won Best Holiday Album 2016 at Enlightened Piano Radio. In April of 2016, A New Dream became her third release. This album charted on OWMR top 10 for 8 months, was nominated multiple times and opened a door for Lynn's music to be heard on SiriusXM radio. Album four, titled Shifting Sands, released in May of 2017. After multiple nominations and charting at #8 at Zone Music Reporter, Shifting Sands was nominated for Solo Piano Album of the year at ZMR. Fellowship of Solitude, Lynn's fifth album charted at #7 worldwide and the nominations continued to come. This album was honored with the prestigious Zone Music Reporter (ZMR) 2018 Best Solo Piano Album. She has received glowing reviews: Kathy Parsons of Mainly Piano wrote, “Many of her pieces have a quiet hymn-like quality” and Steve Sheppard from One World Music Radio said, “She has a style that is both gentle and artistically clever…” Dana Wright at New Age Music Reviews noted, “The art of sharing emotion through music has to be one of this artist's greatest talents....” The year 2019 will see Lynn release her sixth album and several joint projects that will take her music into new territory.

Though she suddenly lost both of her parents a decade ago, Lynn knows that they would be thrilled to see how many doors music has opened for her. They were always supportive of her endeavors and her song, Beyond the Veil, from her debut album, is dedicated to the two of them. She continues to build her musical legacy and remains open to any path her journey takes her. She still dreams of returning to the many instruments of her youth and trying her hand at building her own arrangements for future albums. Though she is in the beginning stages of a full-time career in music, Lynn’s prodigious talent and success thus far, ensure that she has a long, fulfilling road in music ahead of her.

João Victor Barroso, Vitor Colares – Currais (Spotify)

“It is amazing how much beautiful and simple can be a mental composition as -Currais-. Crystal acoustic guitar melody, light orchestral background music and aromatic flavor of red wine.”

“Поразительно, на сколько красивыми могут быть самые простые, но такие душевные композиции, как -Currais-. Кристальная мелодия акустической гитары, лёгкая фоновая оркестровая музыка и ароматный привкус красного вина. ”

-Nagamag.com

Seeking to support the narrative of this necessary documentary-fiction, CURRAIS (CORRALS) film, its soundtrack uses elements by dense, mysterious, dramatic and rustic hour.

Moves between the ghosts of a past historically deleted at the same time denounced the aridity of a real episode and cruel that even today leave marks repeating secretly.

From more basic instruments such as guitar, bass, guitar, drums and programmed strings, to more experimental devices, such as electronic synthesizers, processed noises and guitar played with bow, all are part of the album's sound palette.

Forrest Run – Dream (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , , , |

“Set against a background of gated atmospheric pads and a solid hip hop beat, the deep flowing bass lines, blend nicely with the catchy & pleasantly rhythmic chordal guitar work. The ariose, charismatic & captivating vocals of Ayla will have you reaching for the play it again button.”

-Nagamag.com

Bringing together a brilliant blend of flowing organic sounds with gritty electronica, Forrest Run’s bouncy, effervescent pop is laced with dark mystery.

Pushing out a sound bigger than acts twice their size, this quirky trio lay out atmospheric beds, with massive hip hop beats, along with vocalist Ayla’s saccharine melodies being the cherry on top.

For an act that has only been around since 2019, Forrest Run have matured sonically since their debut release, with the upcoming single displaying a darker, larger sound, while still retaining the catchy pop hooks the act have become known for.

While the debut EP was centred around falling apart, expect the upcoming release to pick up the pieces and move forward, while giving hints reminiscent of London Grammar, Naked & Famous, and Vallis Alps.

We have heard the future of electronic hip-pop, and that sound is Forrest Run.

Australia has such a rich pedigree of indie electronic acts and Kayex represent a new generation. Their music has that perfect fusion of pumping club tones and rock cool. Having already graced festival stages and garnered millions of streams, lifelong friends Palassi Kailis and Tom Derickx are maturing as an act and as songwriters.

Early this year, Tom and Palassi unexpectedly met urban street dancing pioneer Darrio Phillips. Captivated by his energy, Phillips became the motive for the new Kayex single Mindless, which takes listeners on a journey through the eyes of a man who lived in an era where dance ruled the world; “....Inspired by his never-growing-up attitude, we wrote Mindless. Though the song is written about a fictional character, we believe the piece is a depiction of Darrio's exciting mindset and attitude towards life.” Romantically textured with elements of robo-rock and disco over a powerful house groove, Mindless is an effortless amalgam by an act who have truly found their feet.
