alexmaax – Bets Off
(Spotify)

Amazing depth style of voice and beautiful music layering in this new song of Alexmaax.

Burgeoning artist alexmaax, the solo project of Los Angeles-based producer Max Hershenow (known for his work as half of two alternative pop duos, MS MR and Post Precious) gets ready to share his debut single "Bets Off" and accompanying video next week!

Max first got his start in music while studying at Vassar College and the Martha Graham School of Dance, where he began writing music to accompany his choreographies. Soon after graduation he started MS MR with Lizzy Plapinger and it quickly took off. After signing to Columbia Records in 2011, the band toured internationally for 5 years and performed at most major festivals, including Lollapalooza, Splendour in the Grass, Glastonbury and the main stage at Coachella. Since MS MR, Max has channelled his focus into production and writing projects with other artists- namely Charli XCX, Ryn Weaver, Nakhane, Francisca Valenzuela- and has also scored dance and film pieces.

As a queer artist discovering his own voice, Max was inspired by other artists like Perfume Genius, ANHONI, and the Knife, to create something that felt genuinely like his own. He began work on his first solo project in 2018 and is here now with "Bets Off," the first track from the forthcoming EP. For the first time in his music career, Max has embraced his insecurities and let them shine in this body of work.

He shares, "I always thought of myself as a potential vocalist. I was convinced there was this voice deep inside me that just needed to be unlocked in the right way. But I was insecure about its rough edges, and gradually developed a complex around singing. Eventually I resigned myself to being a producer and songwriter, even telling my mom to stop asking when I was going to start singing because it made me too sad. But the urge didn't really go away, and over the past few years a few things changed: MS MR came to a gradual end (or hiatus or whatever), and I started working with a vocal teacher who encouraged me to explore the outer edges of my voice in a freer way. I learned to face my voice with curiosity and playfulness instead of dread. I started hearing it differently, relaxing into its strangeness and specificity, nuance and limitations. Little by little I understood how to strengthen and nurture it."...

Jacelyn, Asha – Kaleidoscope
(Spotify)

Jazzy, soft, chill. Irresistible new song from one of Canada's most hyped new voices featuring rapper Asha. JACELYN was inspired by what happens to the mind of a young woman when her circumstances take a toll on her mental health. Written and produced with Amina Figarova, in New York City, they borrowed from the growing popularity of the underground Jazz Hop scene, and went further with the riddle structured lyrics (like in a Caryl Churchill's theatrical production of Skriker) and then inviting a rapper, Asha, to explore the vibe with them. Kaleidoscope was born.

ED.E – Rattle
(Spotify)

Eddie Edwardson – better known to us as ED.E has been a steady presence on the buzzing underground in recent years on the back of a string of sturdy electronic releases that have been picking up momentum in the scene through an ever-growing listenership and through selective DJs alike.

Leading the two-tracker package is ‘Rattle’ a upfront and bass-heavy Techno workout that shows off ED.E’s production finesse with a flurry of raw and analogue sounding bass synths and hypnotic synths that intertwine with the eerie vocals that lace in-between the melodic elements. On the hefty drops – we are treated to a grinding synth scrape that unleashes a grizzly atmosphere and haunting energy that is predominantly designed to be heard at increased volumes on a system that can properly disperse the crafted sub weight and energy.

On the flip-side ED.E shows off ‘Timeless’ which provides an entrée of sizzling distortion FX and atmospherics over a crunchy kick drum and his signature synth growls to set the scene for another poignant vibe. More euphoric melodies takeover control on the breaks before a thoroughly trippy stack of arpeggios and vocal hits are halted by the return of the hefty bass and kick workout routine that the main body is constructed from.

ED.E once again shows us that he’s a Producer that knows the roots and bones of how to construct professional Techno records and this double package will take a spot alongside a discography that is both impressive and extensive.

‘Rattle’ is out now on Stazis labelled STAZIS198 and makes for a cracking addition to a label that has earned a reputation for showcasing some of the best emerging talents in the scene.

The Bergamot – Bones
(Video)

“Bones” marks the fifth single produced and engineered by Matt Wiggins (UK). Released on World Suicide Prevention Day.
New York City, NY – Sep. 10, 2019 – The opening lines of BONES are the first words, “Nathaniel Paul” of “The Bergamot” shared with us: “I told my brother after he had checked out of rehab for the 2nd time. My family had to intervene in a suicide attempt on Christmas Day 2016. 3 months later, we sat together on the banks of Lake Michigan as he first listened to BONES. With tears streaming down his face he said, “I want to send this song to all my friends at rehab” My brother is alive to this day. BONES” speaks the truth with love; we can’t just run from our burdens. –
