This enigmatic melodic techno duo exploded onto the scene in summer 2020 with their Lane 8 collaboration, ‘Run’, a bonafide hit for both artists. As of January 2022, it’s been streamed nearly 18 million times on Spotify and charted at #1 on SiriusXM BPM.

Kasablanca’s legend continues to grow. ‘Run’ was followed by their debut album ‘Human Learning’, and they’ve been touring globally ever since. The duo debuted their live show, replete with racks of modular synthesisers, at Red Rocks Amphitheater in September 2021 while supporting US bass superstar Rezz.

In December 2021, they joined us at Anjunabeats, remixing Above & Beyond’s ‘Black Room Boy’ as part of the ’10 Years of Group Therapy’ celebrations. We’re excited to reveal original music on the label from one of dance music’s most intriguing acts.

He is the founder of afrobeat in Italy, thanks to his mix of cultures; his lyrics in Italian, English and twi (Ghanaian dialect) mixed with the sounds of afrobeat and trap bases. When he was a child he used to sing in the church choir, where he learned to create melodies. In 2014, along with his friends, he founded the group Troppos Gang, with whom he released the album “2 Many Years” and “Vengo Dal Piano. ” During that time they had a distribution partnership with “That Rabbit/Orchard/Sony Music” with whom they got to know the world of the music business, also participating in several concerts. ‘I Don’t Know Why’ explores the feelings of lacking connection with someone you love despite trying to immerse yourself in everything they believe in. The release features the dream-folk duo’s lush harmonies, a brass section which warmingly punctuates the track as well as a chorus which is powerful in its simplicity as it captures the soul-searching and emotion behind the song as the lyrics repeat “I don’t know why”.

Accompanying the release is a visualiser which depicts scenes as the world goes by around a canal, fitting with the sonic peacefulness and the introspective feeling of the track.

Speaking on ‘I Don’t Know Why’, Sunflower Thieves said, “The track is about how complicated close relationships can be. How the differences in the way we live our lives and follow what we think can affect our understanding of each other, and equally of ourselves.”

Dani Komari-If You Stay (Video)

Categories: Jazz, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , , |

“A bright and wonderful voice that is full of many colors. She dances on the natural jazzy beat like a sultry butterfly from the city. The band really pulls this together and really shows off their skills with the many twists and turns, that really make this one stand out in the crowd. ”

Hop on the time-bending, visually sublime feast train, that is Dani Komari’s latest music video

https://ffm.to/ifyoustay

Time is warped. Yes it is, because it was in December 2020 that KL born jazz crooner Dani Komari released her studio recording of ‘If You Stay’ which happens to be Komari’s second official single to hit the Malaysian airwaves. Fast forward one unbelievable year later, we are now treated with an official live recording and music video of ‘If You Stay’ The music video which marks the directorial debut of Sophia Shukeri, of the House of Karyawan (the production company responsible for Komari’s music video to her debut single Circles), was filmed in Angguk Studio and supported by the Cultural Economy Development Agency (CENDANA). CENDANA is set up by the Malaysian government to build a vibrant, sustainable and ambitious cultural economy for Malaysia. The formidable jazz outfit that makes up Dani and the Nightshades consists of; Jerry Lim on drums, Sylvia Wong on keyboard, Tasneem Bolhassan on bass, Bazli Zulkefly on guitar, Wan Zariff on Saxophone Alto and Firdaus Kamaruddin on Saxophone Tenor.

Getting on to business. Five seconds into the music video and you may already be swaying to the gently titillating saxophone and drums, inviting you in for some tete-a-tete, back to a time before the Covid-19 lockdown galore. Emerging from a silhouette in a pallid studio setting, reminiscent of the underground 70s, Dani immediately sets the tone visually for the entire video, whilst decorated in a magnificent chartreuse satin balloon sleeved top, pink palazzos and a matching rager of a hat, courtesy of local designers Behati and Hanna B. Watching this, you already feel like you are transported to the temporal time-space warp that is Angguk Studio, and all you are missing is a red shiraz or a bitter sweet hot chocolate to pair with that intimate retro warmth, and soul stirring jazz.

https://twitter.com/Danikomari1

Right from the get go, as the spotlight and camera zeroes in on Dani, she wastes no time. She pleads with her eyes and raspy pipes, she’s in search of reason, looking for method to this madness. Is there a way? Who knows. Dani and the jazz troop will tell you; they have been waiting. Waiting to re-emerge from their onerous imprisonments. Distance being strenuous, but proximity futile, in the maze that was 2020 and 2021. It may not be no coincidence that this was set up and filmed within the confines of a cozy independent studio, an overlooking KL skyline in the background, with the jazz outfit strategically positioned all across the platform, at a comfortable distance, and armed in masks where needed.

No this is not just a song about hope. It is a dialogue that is inviting you to participate in the back and forth of hope, with the challenges and struggles of the players and shakers of the Malaysian art industry in mind. Struggling for stability, and constantly needing to reinvent how their art and message is being delivered without putting your health at risk. It is no secret that the Covid 19 pandemic has robbed us of our sanity and well-being across all strata of society, but more so for the already struggling arts community, due to the punishing loss of revenue resulting from the cancellation of shows, and events. Thankfully their saving grace comes in the form of CENDANA and their initiative Cendana’s Create Now 2.0, that aims to support practice and operations of Malaysian artists, collectives and art organizations amidst this extremely stressful public health crisis. CENDANA has afforded these young ones a glimmer of hope and mammoth support, replete with the fact that they deserve NO less. Kudos to them for that.

As the song draws into conclusion, there is a shift from morose uncertainty to blinding and child-like hope, as the dazzling songstress offers you an olive branch. She remains hopeful, convinced that we can only stand together in this aloneness. There just is no sense otherwise. So we ask you again, will you stay? Because Dani and the Nightshades are definitely going to be around for a long time. And maybe if you do take them up on their offer, this time warp will finally offer you some absolution….. What!??

TYDI & JES – Just Believe (Video)

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“Very high quality EDM track, filled with beautiful arrangement! When the singer has such a wide performing range, a strong emphasis in the vocals should be given. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of this charming voice!”

“Очень качественный, насыщенный красивой аранжировкой EDM трек! Хорошо, когда у вокалиста такой исполнительский диапазон, именно поэтому в этой песне сильный акцент на вокальных партиях. Погружаешься в атмосферу словно в бездну океана и тонешь в очаровательном голосе исполнительницы!”

-Nagamag.com

With their first for 2022 (and it could hardly have come much earlier), tyDi & JES bring the hope with their new collaboration, ‘Just Believe’.

The release comes off the back of challenging times for Australian-born/LA-based DJ/producer, tyDi. Having been hospitalized with a rare neurological condition and spending much of the autumn of 2021 fighting his way back to fitness, much could be inferred from the single’s title.

‘Just Believe’ however predates any recent histories. tyDi and JES began writing the track in 2018, well before his, or anyone else’s world turned upside down. JES – a girl well known for putting her heart, soul, and life into her work, has written a storyful song miles distant from current events.

Musically, it’s hard to imagine a tyDi studio-work filled with more optimism. The conservatory-trained composer brings all his skill to bear on a production that first intimates and then positively radiates warmth, sun, and brighter-days-vibes.

Thematically, JES’s song deals with one of those ‘we’ve all been there’ moments when friendships turn to something more. Detailed perfectly through her heart-on-sleeve lyrics, it’s a song about having faith, being bold, laying it on the line, and taking the leap – all in the knowledge that the path of true love rarely runs smooth.

The song also comes in partnership with one of tech’s hottest new pieces of digital real estate. Enter Rachel van Nortwick, the brain Vynilly, the dating app that pairs you with matches based on your musical tastes. The connection between ‘Just Believe’ and Vynilly was undeniable, as Rachel noted.

“When I heard the song, I instinctively felt a connection between the story and the experiences that led me to create Vynilly’.

Pooling their creativity, the idea for a new type of music video was hatched. Conceived and directed by Los Angeles native Ben Meredith, ‘Just Believe’ releases with a beautifully crafted narrative-based music video. Taking Vynilly’s value proposition and spinning it into a compelling story, we follow multiple characters and timelines while JES performs the song from a downtown Los Angeles rooftop.

’We have managed to sidestep traditional product placement. It is so connected; it’s like the song is what inspired Vynilly, and vice-versa. Hopefully, the video creates the type of fun and exciting experiences we should all be enjoying in our relationships and dating” Rachel added.

A more positive way to start 2022 you simply will not find.

Nicky Romero releases his much-anticipated single “Afterglow” with GATTÜSO and Jared Lee as his first of 2022, kicking off the new year with a hopeful track fitting for a new beginning. The Protocol label boss incorporates his trademark sound by opening with subtle instrumentals underneath soulful vocals that ignite a spark of positivity and resilience, which are the themes for the lyrics of “Afterglow.” The melodies gradually build into a seamless progressive crescendo, making it an emotive and yet dance-worthy hit. Nicky first teased the single back in 2019 at The Avicii Tribute Concert in Stockholm and most recently at EDC Las Vegas 2021, keeping his fans hyped for the official release of “Afterglow.” Nicky Romero closed 2021 with his return to Virgin Records/Universal Music with “Why Do I Call” and release of “Your Eyes” with LAMAS (BR) under his dark Monocule side-project.

While showcasing his label’s roster via his weekly Protocol Radio show, Nicky Romero continues to innovate and evolve, and with his annual “Nicky Romero & Friends” ADE showcase and the launch of Monocule alter-ego, he keeps proving his ability to turn into gold everything he touches.

He hit the ground running in summer 2018 with his first original production, “Who We Are,” and in just over a year’s time, he signed an exclusive record deal with legendary dance music label Ultra Records. He has received strong support for his remixes for Sam Feldt and R3HAB, whose hit “Lullaby” with Mike Williams propelled GATTÜSO to the cover of Spotify’s influential “mint” playlist. His collaboration with R3HAB, “Creep,” was the first official Mint Single in the exclusive Spotify Singles series and was featured on 40 New Music Fridays around the world. The song has been streamed over 100M times to date and continues to grow. 2021 was filled with original releases, including successful collaborations with Steve Aoki with MKLA and Aukoustic, DVBBS & Alida, and a second release with Laidback Luke.

Having amassed well over 80M streams online, Boston-born singer, songwriter, and platinum producer Jared Lee is poised to add significantly to those figures this year.
