OLI – Don’t Give Up (Video)

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“How often have you heard and listened to your inner voice telling you not to give up? This track reminds all of us not to give up and keep going, even if it’s hard and beyond the threshold of a blizzard. Wonderful Dream Pop and insightful vocals that captivate as soon as you dive into them.”

“Как часто вы слышали и слушали свой внутренний голос, который говорил вам не сдаваться? Этот трек напоминает всем нам не опускать руки и продолжать идти, даже если тяжело и за порогом вьюга. Прекрасный Dream Pop и проницательный вокал, которые очаровывают сразу, как только погружаешься в них.”

Since launching last year, OLI’s lush, ethereal soundscapes, expansive and inspired visual perspectives, and non-conformist alt-pop songwriting have earned her critical acclaim.

With a sultry combination of deep bass and swirling synth textures, sitting beneath OLI’s effortlessly cool vocals, the single came as a result of the common experiences shared in 2020 and the sheer resilience OLI observed amongst people. Speaking of the song’s inspirations, OLI said: “I think last year a lot of the feeling was just to keep going and keep your head above water. I felt that around me a lot, friends losing jobs, experiencing periods of bad mental health and somehow pushing on. It made me realise how resilient people are and how little they give themselves credit for it.”

She continues: “I wanted the song to show that, to feel like a voice inside your head letting you know everything will be alright. That we are in this together. If anything, I hope the listener feels a little encouraged after hearing the song.”

https://www.facebook.com/olimasek/

The song will arrive with an equally luscious music video. Shot in Finland, OLI wanted to turn the fact that so many people she works with are so far away into a positive, and handed over the reins to Finland based videographer Heini Susanne to create the visually stunning video. OLI said: “I knew we didn’t need to be near to create something great together. The music video was actually filmed in Finland without me there. I wanted Heini to feel like she could do/try whatever she thought would look unique, instead of me instructing her on what I wanted.” The video sees a weary traveller lost in the snow-covered woods, battling his inner demons as he tries to find refuge.

The artwork and press photos for the single were made in collaboration with Gabrielle Salonga, a digital media artist. The pair had OLI pose in front of a green screen, with the 3D elements added in post-production.

OLI moved to London from New Jersey at the age of 2. Growing up in a musical family, she was always encouraged to be creative – writing her first song when she was only 7. Her influences range from the likes of Sade and Dion Warwick to bands such as Stereophonics, Supergrass and Pearl Jam and Pink Floyd. OLI co-writes and produces with legendary producer Benny D (Stormzy, Boy George, Kylie, Plan B, Robbie Williams, Paloma Faith, Depeche Mode).

‘’Say It To Me’’ is a song about life, forgiveness, and faith in the face of suffering in a changing world.

The song calls into question the meaning of compassion in the wake of disaster asking what is left when all is lost, in that last moment, what is there to say?

Vocab Slick & The Grouch – Find A Way (Video)

Categories: Hip-Hop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , |

“Life is a journey and we all have to find our way through. The message is clear and “Vocab Slick” has the ability to lead us with his rhymes and words of Hip-Hop power. Awaited for the end of this month, we’re pretty sure “Find A Way” is going to reach a high rank in the scene.”

-Nagamag.com

Vocab Slick reveals the stunning new animated video for his latest single, “Find A Way,” featuring The Grouch and co-production from Nohokai and Starski.

The video is animated by Sunspot Jonz, a multi-talented artist in his own right who reps the Living Legends crew alongside The Grouch. That personal touch makes the visuals resonate even stronger than they already do, especially when you see the moving tribute to the late Steve “Zumbi” Gaines, the beloved Bay Area emcee who died tragically this past August.

The “Find a Way” video also embodies the spirit of the track, which is a reminder that no matter how much we may struggle or feel out of place, we all need a place where we can realign ourselves. And in this clip, we watch as Vocab continues to search for his own spot alongside The Grouch, who spits thoughtful rhymes in his guest verse.

Check out the visuals and head over to your preferred digital retailer or streaming platform to support. Vocab’s new album, Language, is due out on Friday, Oct. 29 on all DSPs via DR Music. The Bay Area emcee is supporting the album release with a West Coast tour that runs Nov 03 to 20 (click here for tour dates).

Tinlicker – Be Here And Now feat. Nathan Nicholson (Video)

Categories: Electronica, Electronica Features, Features, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“A touch of modern opera illustrated by sound. Solid builds ups of a soft techno beat embraced by strings. The vocals are memorable. ”

-Nagamag.com

Acclaimed Dutch duo Tinlicker (Micha Heyboer and Jordi van Achthoven) have released their stirring new single ‘Be Here and Now’ on London-based independent label Anjunadeep. The single release is accompanied by a music video directed by Julius Ponten and starring Dutch actor Werner Kolf (Wolf, Gangster, Vechtershart).

A collaboration with vocalist Nathan Nicholson, who has previously worked with Claptone, Kiko Franco, and Hannah Wants, ‘Be Here and Now’ presents as a part ballad, part progressive house anthem. Featuring the ecstatic builds and strings that have become synonymous with Tinlicker’s hair-raising sound, the single invokes the emotions of looking back at what once was. On the single, vocalist Nathan Nicholson explains:

“When Tinlicker first sent me the instrumental for this song, long before they gave it rhythm, I fell in love with it – just piano and strings. It was very powerful and a lot of the lyrics and all of the melody came out on my first pass. The lyrics are about a longing for the past and the innocence of growing up. I lost my mom when I was eighteen and within a year moved from Tennessee to England, so my childhood into adulthood has a very strong line running in between. I’m in a constant war with nostalgia – the other life – and where I am right now. In this song, I’m simply telling myself to have reverence for my past, but not to be beholden to it. A huge thanks to Tinlicker for asking me to be a part of it.”

‘Be Here and Now’ joins Tinlicker’s esteemed catalog, which includes their 2019 album ‘This Is Not Out Universe’ which saw support from the likes of Pete Tong, Ben Malone at Kiss FM, SiriusXM Chill, 538 Dance Department, Slam!, and Sunshine Live, as well as prolific producers such as deadmau5, Gorgon City, Cassian, Eli & Fur, Lane 8, Dosem and Edu Imbernon.

Having individually honed their skills as part of a world-renown drum and bass act Black Sun Empire (Heyboer), and as a producer, songwriter, and music editor for many artists (Van Achthoven), Tinlicker has quickly become a household name in the world of electronic dance music. Their single ‘Because You Move Me’ is currently #20 on the German radio charts and has accrued over 100M Spotify streams, whilst their rework of Robert Miles recently hit Beatport #1.

With releases on labels such as Anjunadeep, mau5trap, and Armada, their original collaborations with Ben Böhmer, Dosem, Lane 8, and remixes for deadmau5, James Zabiela and Reflekt have become indispensable ingredients for the world’s biggest radio and DJ shows. ‘Be Here and Now’ marks a new chapter for Tinlicker, hinting at exciting things to come.

Nina Schofield – Who Is She? (Video)

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , |

“Virtuoso, interesting and very atmospheric. In places, there is a feeling of full improvisation, which makes everyone happy. Variety of instrumental composition, etiquette and enchanting vocals from -Nina Schofield-. Great energetic music, to fix your mood!”

“Виртуозно, интересно и очень атмосферно. Местами, возникает ощущение полной импровизации, что весьма радует слух. Разнообразие инструментальной составляющей, поэтичности и очаровательный вокал -Nina Schofield-. Очень энергичная музыка, посыл которой вдохновлять и поднимать настроение!”

-Nagamag.com

Following the release of her last single ‘Not Perfect Now’ in January this year, Nina Schofield returns with a brand new punchy, synth-pop number ‘Who Is She’ due this Autumn.

Detailing the fallout of a partner cheating in a relationship, ‘Who Is She’ fuses Nina’s hazy layered vocal effects, over a thumping bass line and emotive lyrics that builds momentum into a soaring chorus of heartache and confusion.

Nina says: “’Who Is She’ was a really unique writing experience for me because I started out with a sample synth and didn’t have a clear idea of where the song would go. This one sample triggered a thousand ideas in my head and I quickly created the initial production for the track which left room for the melody to evolve. I began thinking about how I would react to losing trust in a relationship and all the ways I’d process that and pretty soon the lyrics and the melody began to form side by side. This isn’t a situation I’ve been through personally but I’ve seen my friends go through similar heartache and I couldn’t help but want to write about it and try and understand and process the emotion. Matthew Fisher then came on board and helped bring the finished song to life – it was really fun approaching songwriting and production in a completely different way as it’s super important to me to keep pushing myself outside of my comfort zone when it comes to writing songs.”

For those of you still unsure of Nina Schofield’s credentials, here’s a reminder…with an 100,000 strong audience on her Youtube channel, a no.4 iTunes singer/songwriter chart hit, nominations for Best Female Artist on both sides of the Atlantic (Best of British Music Awards and the Hollywood Music in Media Awards), live appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival, sold out tours across the UK supporting the likes of Nell Bryden and BBC show winning band Sons of Pitches, co writing and featuring on the electronic hit ‘Lift You Up’ with Aurosonic & Frainbreeze, being head hunted by Dutch Pop/R&B band Romeo to join them on their sell out come-back show and a number 1 dance record in Slovakia with Vintage and Morelli.

Added to which, she co-wrote and co-worked with Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe winners and nominees with a striking list of names such as Morrisey’s Richard Niles, Gabrielle Aplin’s Tom Wilding and Tina Turner’s Steve DuBerry. Her single ‘Imaginary Love’ was chosen as Record Of The Day and supported by BBC radio stations across the UK. Top that off with a highly acclaimed single ‘My Life’ written in Stockholm with FMLY STHLM (Robyn/One Direction) and the release of her follow up singles ‘Thriving’ and ‘Ghost’ and it’s clear to see you have a recipe for pop success.

2019 saw the release of Nina’s song ‘The Gift’ which resulted in her featured live performance in the BBC Richard Gere drama ‘MotherFatherSon’ which has since been broadcast globally. Nina’s focus now remains on her writing, producing and Youtube career as well as continuing her work with chart toppers all over the world.

Oblivion Orchestra – ‘Oh Oblivion’ (Video)

Categories: Rock, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“In this slow Indie Folk single, we had the chance to experience some magic pad-like effects in addition to guitar chords and emotional singing. The artist has taken advantage of his own style, which is quite elegant too.”

-Nagamag.com

Artist shared few words behind his new lp and and his project:

Scene to Scene, the new LP from New York, NY songwriter Josh Allen can be a bit disorienting on first blush. Sheets of buzzing texture shift in and out of focus, while plaintive vocals pierce the veil and plunge straight to the heart of vulnerable humanity.

You could call it a concept album, but Oblivion Orchestra’s writer, singer, arranger and only member Allen might bristle at the term. Less a concept and more an act of creative necessity, it is still the case that the only instrument played on the record beyond one guitar and voice is cello. Yet, that one instrument is broken fully out of preconceived notions of its sound. Each track on Scene to Scene features layers upon layers of the cello, sometimes up to twenty or more; strummed, screeched, run through reverbs, knocked on, bowed and manipulated, weaving their way around the stark core of each song.

While working as a film composer and sound designer, the cello first came to Allen through a documentary film. ‘I was asked to score a documentary, and when they sent me the temp music, it was all cello” he explains. “I couldn’t play cello, and, because of that, I developed this way of working where I layer different performances together, running the signal through an old guitar amp. Eventually it took on a sound all its own.”

Forcing himself to work with these self-imposed constraints proved an inspiration. The layering and listening required in sound design, the way that music and the different textures of ambient sound wrap around the dialogue in a film, has had a profound effect on Allen’s approach to his original music. “I did break the rules a couple of times, though” he admits. “There is an occasional tambourine, or a shaker. On one track two bottles clink together.” Allen recorded the songs quickly, while still brand new to him, sometimes while the ink was still drying on the last lyrics.

Written and recorded at his home in Manhattan, Allen began each track by framing out the core of what, arguably, are indie folk tunes. As the cello textures swirled into the mix, the songs began to swing and sway, the focus becoming deeply blurred at times, and then intensely sharpened, sometimes within a single line. Once the tracking was complete, Allen enlisted Alan Weatherhead (MaryTimony, Sparklehorse) to master the record.

The process of creating Scene to Scene was both courage and cathartic for Allen, at turns satisfying and stupefying. “Lyrically, I suppose it’s an introspective record, but that introspection can get a bit foggy sometimes” says Allen. “I don’t think I can explain it really. I was thinking about making a record where things come in and out of focus… for the singer, and for the listener. Between being blurry and being clear, or maybe between conscious and unconscious. How would it sound, if the singer himself is trying to find his way among his own stories?”

Tim Reynolds ft Nikki Glaspie – ‘Guardian Angels’ Official Music Video (100% of Proceeds to PHAR) (Video)

Categories: Jazz, The Latest, Video|Tags: , |

“Forward thinking movement encapsulated into a beautiful natural musical pattern. Like a free-flowing mountain stream put together with some very talented jazzy cats. ”

-Nagamag.com

Tim Reynolds, two-time Grammy nominated composer / performer and guitarist for the Dave Matthews Band, in conjunction with the non-profit record label, CommunityZ RecordZ, is proud to announce the release of his new single, Guardian Angels, featuring Nikki Glaspie (ex Beyoncé, The Nth Power, Maceo Parker, Kamani) on drums and percussion. On September 24th, the single will be exclusively available for purchase (not on any streaming platforms) but only on the CommunityZ RecordZ official pages (links below), with 100% of proceeds going to support the Charlottesville Public Housing Association of Residents (PHAR-CVille). PHAR’s mission is to educate and empower low-income residents of Charlottesville, VA–a town undergoing sweeping cultural changes–with the ability to protect and improve their community through collective action. The organization is dedicated to advocating for and working closely with public housing residents and is entirely governed by public housing residents and one Section 8 resident. Tim’s partnership with CommunityZ RecordZ allows him to give back to his former hometown where his musical journey began, as well as contribute an earnest effort to protect the integrity of Charlottesville, a diverse and evolving community that acts in parallel and in reflection to the rest of the country, if not the world. The mission of CommunityZ RecordZ is to connect artists with their formative roots and save the world one song, one artist, one community at a time. Rarely does the moment meet the music, but in this case, and especially in this time, it felt imperative to ensure that it does.

“I feel incredibly lucky to even be able to support a group like PHAR, and that they exist in a town that is forever dear to my heart. As far as the chance to work with someone of the musical caliber of Nikki Glaspie, I couldn’t jump fast enough,” states Reynolds.

Musically, Guardian Angels began as a track that Reynolds recorded on a four track at his home. CommunityZ RecordZ, the brainchild of Will Bradford (SeepeopleS, theWorst, RascalZ RecordZ) and music artist Sparxsea with board members from the American Special Hockey Association and Payback, as well as Nikki Glaspie herself who serves on the advisory board, had expressed interest in releasing a collaborative song for charity. Reynolds had known Bradford from years of touring and recording together, and with artists, musicians, and activists connected during the covid lockdown of 2020, the project and mission were born. This collective vision to help make artists and their music essential again via the direct support of a grassroots support charity, will perhaps offer a more meaningful way for musicians, audiences, and communities to interact and co-exist.

Upon collaboration with Nikki Glaspie, Tim’s song took on a new life and became the rare unreleased gem that is now Guardian Angels. The song was lovingly edited, mixed, and mastered by Will Holland (Pixies, Dead Can Dance) at Chillhouse Studios in Boston, MA. The accompanying music video, filmed and edited by Sparxsea (drone footage by Andrew Doody) features scenes from the removal of Confederate statues in the former heart and soul of the confederacy, a seminal event of this past summer in Charlottesville. It is fascinating to think that Reynolds recorded the original composition long before he and Glaspie so accurately captured the uncertain, cautious, but strong and hopeful emotions surrounding this important juncture in time…as well as ambitions and aspirations felt by the residents of Charlottesville, a city that has become ground zero for the racial reckoning across America. This is literally a city changing before our eyes. With Guardian Angels, Tim Reynolds and Nikki Glaspie have given us a truly heartfelt musical offering and we kindly ask for your support to help make this gift one that gives back as much as possible–not just to Charlottesville–but our entire global community as well. We thank you in advance.

Georgia Cécile – Come Summertime (Video)

Categories: Jazz, The Latest, Video|Tags: , |

“Her voice carries hope and a bright light. Delicate night of passion and essence embraced by the southern skies. All this on a top-notch melody with feeling and we have a winner. ”

-Nagamag.com

https://twitter.com/georgia_cecile

One of Jazz’s hottest new prospects, Scottish singer and songwriter Georgia Cécile is fast building a reputation as one of the UK’s finest vocalists. Tipped as ‘One To Watch’ by BBC Introducing and Jazzwise Magazine, winner of ‘Best Vocalist’ at the 2019 Scottish Jazz Awards and ‘Vocalist Of The Year’ nominee at the 2020 Jazz FM Awards, Cécile’s stock has been rising on the strength of her live performances and songwriting partnership with award winning pianist and composer Euan Stevenson.

After releasing a series of singles this year, Cécile is set to share her debut album entitled ‘Only The Lover Sings’. Being released independently on 17th September, the highly anticipated LP features ten original songs co-written and arranged with Stevenson, featuring a lush acoustic palette of jazz quartet, Hammond organ, strings and horns. The elegant collection of songs showcase Cecile’s hugely impressive natural vocal ability and take the listener on a journey through heart wrenching moments to elevating highs, with lyrics which bare her soul and touch on themes such as love, loss, nurture and spiritual growth.

https://www.facebook.com/GeorgiaCecile

Described by Jamie Cullum as a “songwriting pair to watch out for”, the songs bear the fruits of a decade-long songwriting partnership between Cécile and Stevenson, a collaboration which sees the pair draw inspiration from an era when composers such as Burt Bacharach, John Barry and Marvin Hamlisch enjoyed mainstream appeal whilst wearing their jazz credentials proudly on their sleeves.

Supported by Creative Scotland, the album was recorded throughout 2020 at GloWorm Recordings in Glasgow, engineered, co-produced and mixed by Iain Hutchison. Featuring top UK session players such as violinist Seonaid Aitken and trumpeter Ryan Quigley, the album has a timeless, cinematic quality, fusing classic jazz and soul influences as diverse as Duke Ellington, Nancy Wilson and Stevie Wonder with a contemporary edge in the vein of Gregory Porter, Norah Jones and Melody Gardot.

The album follows the singles ‘He Knew How To Love’ and ‘Always Be Right’ which have picked up plenty of media support ranging from BBC Radio 2, BBC Introducing and Jazz FM to The Independent and Wonderland Magazine. Also this year, Georgia marked International Women’s Day by performing live for the BBC’s Jazz Nights show and she was included in Jazzwise’s ‘Women In Jazz’ feature that day.

The official album launch concert will be held at Edinburgh Queen’s Hall on 16th of October and will feature Cécile’s eleven-piece ensemble, including live strings and horn section. She will also be performing at the Limerick Festival in Ireland in September, and in November she will be opening the prestigious London Jazz Festival with the Guy Barker Orchestra as part of the ‘Jazz Voice’ concert, which in previous years has hosted vocalists such as Jacob Collier, Paloma Faith, Gregory Porter and Corinne Bailey Rae. In previous years, Cécile has performed sell-out concerts across UK jazz festivals, notably London Jazz Festival and Cheltenham Jazz Festival.

Rheo Uno – Senorita (Video)

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“Fresh and hot like fire vibe in Electro Pop style. The UK artist has raised the temperature even higher with her sensual singing voice and lyrics with surely attractive mood. “Senorita” is a real bomb.”

-Nagamag.com

UK born singer songwriter Rheo, is poised to announce a brand new song ‘Señorita’ due for release this October.

Following on from the success of her recent singles, ‘Show Me’ and ‘Wife Me’ (feat rapper Chxmpion) which were very well supported by BBC Music Introducing East Midlands and BBC Radio Leicester; described as “phenomenal, pop at its very, very finest”.

‘Señorita’ marks a shift in tempo for the rising pop star, showcasing elements of Rheo’s emotive, soulful side; fusing hazy pop leaning tendencies over intimate, unfiltered lyricism. The end product marks her as an artist to watch out for.

She says: “I wanted to channel as much sexual tension as I could into a song; you know in the films when they’re in a club, dancing, sweaty and ridiculously sensual? I wanted Senorita to be the soundtrack for something like that.”

She goes on: “To me, as soon as you hear a Latino beat, it puts you in that sultry, sensuous mood; so thats how we ended up with that vibe, and hey, Tequila is my fave shot so it was a no brainier to drop in the mix”.

Rheo is no stranger to the music scene having been a featured vocalist on many dance/pop anthems, she has now stepped up to release her own evocative and commercially focused music. Her song writing and top line skills blend sublimely with her ability to create catchy melodies, which all combine to deliver a story, influenced by relatable issues such as female empowerment, relationships, gender and equality

Rheo tell us: “I started relatively late to song writing at about 17, I just didn’t think I could do it, it was something other people could do, not me. So what I put out was heavily influenced by the people I was working with, and consequently I didn’t relate to it and therefore why should anyone else? But now, working with Charles (Drew) from Monarchy Music, we have just clicked creatively, and the material is coming thick and fast. I’m loving what I’m producing, it feels connected to me, my thoughts, friendships, relationships and I’m proud of how it sounds. I’m listening to myself on repeat, which is an absolute first for me.”

Working together with her new production team has helped Rheo develop her distinctive sound, which has been influenced by the likes of Dua Lipa, Becky Hill, Raye and Jessie Ware to name a few.

‘Señorita’ is part of a clutch of singles scheduled for release over the coming months, offering listeners a taste of what Rheo Uno has to offer.
