Gaute Storsve Trio – Einar (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Jazz, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“"Gaute Storsve Trio" present their new single in melancholic mood at this time. An interesting fusion of Jazz and Neoclassic sounds, dedicated to a loved person. Recommended for all violin-sensitive ears, "Einar" will leave its sign inside your mind.”

-Nagamag.com

This is the second single from Gaute Storsve Trio’s upcoming album “El gran Gotzilla”. The title refers to Gaute’s granddad Einar, who recently passed away. It is written as a homage to an amazing man gradually disappearing through dementia.

It was originally intended to be a trio track, but one day Ingrid Berg Mehus visited the studio and added a totally new dimension with her beautiful violin playing.

E.G. Phillips – This Infertile Valley (Spotify)

“Pleasant track with velvet vocals from -E.G. Phillips-, leisurely jazz melody and fancy, but warm atmosphere. It can simply make you feel comfort like being with favourite friends. Music that cannot be easily found.”

“Приятный, бархатный вокал -E.G. Phillips-, неторопливая мелодия джаза и причудливая, но очень тёплая атмосфера трека. Ощущается уют и комфорт домашней обстановки в компании с любимыми друзьями. Музыка, которой очень сильно не хватает всем нам.”

Artist said about this song:

"This is song about a place you can get stuck and know you need to leave. This song about a place called Depression.

The 3rd single from my forthcoming album “Alien from an Alternate Earth,” this recording features the incredible Renee Padgett on backing vocals. You can hear her amazing versatility just in the span of this one track. What starts out in the 2nd verse as a simple, subtle backing harmony reminiscent of something out of the 50s transforms into gorgeous gospel-like cadences for the following chorus, lifts us into the heavens for the bridge, and then easily slips into a Bossa Nova vocalese for the final verse as the rhythm switches up.

The rest of the backing band is nothing to sneeze at either, providing rich textures for lyrics filled with detailed imagery and a distinctive harmonic backdrop."

Welcome Summer

The steel gray clouds and unforgiving winter winds that whipped across the barren landscape have fallen silent, giving way to the resplendence of temperate, gentle breezes and sun soaked beds of rainbow flowers. The birds have roused us gently from our chilly slumber, and we have responded in kind, emerging from our captivity with a renewed sense of hope and happiness. We are reborn, once more, to this celebration of life, our spirits buoyed by the warmer weather, the alluring call of the ocean waves and the irresistible promise that this is going to be “that kind of summer.”

Tom Petrone, the uber talented jazz artist who made quite a splash earlier this year with the release of his much heralded hit “Fly Again,” builds on his blossoming reputation as one of the most talented jazz vocalists today as he captures the breathless anticipation of sweet summer with his latest song, “That Kind of Summer.” The celebratory ballad, which has already garnered rave reviews, conjures for listeners in hypnotic fashion all the sights, sounds and smells that make summer by the shore the most wondrous part of the best season of the year.

Petrone’s latest act of creative brilliance features his signature silky vocals that once again play seamlessly off musical arrangements that are both blissful and evocative. The song is in part a homage to the water’s salubrious, life-giving force as well as a classic love song that traces the ocean’s role in opening up one human heart to another. Petrone’s classic sound offers his fans quite a moving listening experience.

And that experience is one that is purely soulful, almost religious.

Petrone sings “the waves whisper to me, salty breath pulls me near” and listeners are captivated instantly, transported to some sleepy shoreline as the briny surf washes across their feet and onto the sand. It is here, where the inspirational power of the sea emerges unexpectedly. “The sand and the surf that appeared just the same, are now touching my heart and calling your name.”

Let the worshipping begin.

“Growing up on Long Island, I spent a lot of time, especially during the summer, down by the ocean,” Petrone mused. “There was just something magical about it. You know? Everything that is wonderful and memorable about summer begins and ends with the beach. I guess you could say that the song is my tribute to summer by the shore and the love and romance it can inspire.”

Dani Komari-If You Stay (Video)

Hop on the time-bending, visually sublime feast train, that is Dani Komari’s latest music video

https://ffm.to/ifyoustay

Time is warped. Yes it is, because it was in December 2020 that KL born jazz crooner Dani Komari released her studio recording of ‘If You Stay’ which happens to be Komari’s second official single to hit the Malaysian airwaves. Fast forward one unbelievable year later, we are now treated with an official live recording and music video of ‘If You Stay’ The music video which marks the directorial debut of Sophia Shukeri, of the House of Karyawan (the production company responsible for Komari’s music video to her debut single Circles), was filmed in Angguk Studio and supported by the Cultural Economy Development Agency (CENDANA). CENDANA is set up by the Malaysian government to build a vibrant, sustainable and ambitious cultural economy for Malaysia. The formidable jazz outfit that makes up Dani and the Nightshades consists of; Jerry Lim on drums, Sylvia Wong on keyboard, Tasneem Bolhassan on bass, Bazli Zulkefly on guitar, Wan Zariff on Saxophone Alto and Firdaus Kamaruddin on Saxophone Tenor.

Getting on to business. Five seconds into the music video and you may already be swaying to the gently titillating saxophone and drums, inviting you in for some tete-a-tete, back to a time before the Covid-19 lockdown galore. Emerging from a silhouette in a pallid studio setting, reminiscent of the underground 70s, Dani immediately sets the tone visually for the entire video, whilst decorated in a magnificent chartreuse satin balloon sleeved top, pink palazzos and a matching rager of a hat, courtesy of local designers Behati and Hanna B. Watching this, you already feel like you are transported to the temporal time-space warp that is Angguk Studio, and all you are missing is a red shiraz or a bitter sweet hot chocolate to pair with that intimate retro warmth, and soul stirring jazz.

Right from the get go, as the spotlight and camera zeroes in on Dani, she wastes no time. She pleads with her eyes and raspy pipes, she’s in search of reason, looking for method to this madness. Is there a way? Who knows. Dani and the jazz troop will tell you; they have been waiting. Waiting to re-emerge from their onerous imprisonments. Distance being strenuous, but proximity futile, in the maze that was 2020 and 2021. It may not be no coincidence that this was set up and filmed within the confines of a cozy independent studio, an overlooking KL skyline in the background, with the jazz outfit strategically positioned all across the platform, at a comfortable distance, and armed in masks where needed.

No this is not just a song about hope. It is a dialogue that is inviting you to participate in the back and forth of hope, with the challenges and struggles of the players and shakers of the Malaysian art industry in mind. Struggling for stability, and constantly needing to reinvent how their art and message is being delivered without putting your health at risk. It is no secret that the Covid 19 pandemic has robbed us of our sanity and well-being across all strata of society, but more so for the already struggling arts community, due to the punishing loss of revenue resulting from the cancellation of shows, and events. Thankfully their saving grace comes in the form of CENDANA and their initiative Cendana’s Create Now 2.0, that aims to support practice and operations of Malaysian artists, collectives and art organizations amidst this extremely stressful public health crisis. CENDANA has afforded these young ones a glimmer of hope and mammoth support, replete with the fact that they deserve NO less. Kudos to them for that.

As the song draws into conclusion, there is a shift from morose uncertainty to blinding and child-like hope, as the dazzling songstress offers you an olive branch. She remains hopeful, convinced that we can only stand together in this aloneness. There just is no sense otherwise. So we ask you again, will you stay? Because Dani and the Nightshades are definitely going to be around for a long time. And maybe if you do take them up on their offer, this time warp will finally offer you some absolution….. What!??
