Nancy Mounir – Gannentini

Categories: The Latest, Video, World Music|Tags: , , , , , |

“With bold eastern character and lyrics of passion, Nancy Mounir introduces us to her upcomming release. Arabic vocals telling a story about a painfull separation in a mix of Ambient and instrumental sound patterns. Taste the difference of this song and forget about typical music.”

-Nagamag.com

Moody, hypnotic, and sneakily catchy, Nancy Mounir’s debut album Nozhet El Nofous—whose title means “Promenade of the Souls” in Arabic—explores microtonality, non-metered rhythms, and bold vulnerability through a musical dialogue between Mounir’s own arrangements and the sounds of archival recordings of once-famed singers from Egypt at the turn of the 20th century.

Adding her own ambient arrangements over voices haunted with passion and desire as she creates a sound that is warmly familiar but utterly new. The full spectrum of this ambitious approach can be heard on “Gannentini,” the latest hypnotic track from the upcoming album.

It’s out June 3rd via Simsara Records, with Nancy recently performing the album at the Alexandria Opera in Cairo with the a string orchestra.

Vincent Kostra – Through the Black Waters, Pt. 2

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“The Polish Vincent Kostra floats between traditional classical and Epic sound. Discover a dramatic atmosphere lurking behind those crystal keypads and wind instruments. A track full of volume shifts and unpredictable progression, ideal for curiosity lovers.”

-Nagamag.com

The Polish composer blurs the lines between neo-romantic classical music and modern soundtracks, with a contemporary spin on traditional orchestral music.

Taking inspiration from romantic and neo-romantic artists like Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Mahler, and Prokofiev; film composers such as Wojciech Kilar, and notably avant-garde duo ‘Dead Can Dance’, his sound is a dramatic infusion of diverse influences. Although primarily influenced by the classical world, he will often get in the compositional headspace by immersing himself in trap artists like Travis Scott, resulting in a strong rhythmic influence on his music, whether through percussive elements or melodic ostinatos.

Following his December 2021 debut EP “Certain Misfortunes“, his debut LP album “Gloom&Rhythm” was released on May 9, 2022.

“Fresh Afro Beats with a house music flavor ingrained into the DNA of the track. Easy going lyrics with those natural accents that set it apart. The chorus breaks down on the good side of pop, hard not to move to this one.

-Nagamag.com

Switzerland-based artists Karter and Reo join forces in latest offering ‘Songi Songi’ - where the duo call out toxic gossiping and its effects on people's trust and relationships while combining their native tongues of French and Lingala

Immersive keys and dreamy sax interweave between a danceable beat, blending the best of afrobeat and amapiano elements for a sound reminiscent of Kabza De Small, Peruzzi, and Olamide.

“Enjoy a wonderful vocal duet unfolding their skillful guitar melodies in a song of Indie Folk style. Some crucial thoughts about life values are stated in those lyrics in order to conclude that nothing is assured.”

-Nagamag.com

San Francisco-based indie duo The Feelings Parade announce their debut album Let It Move You due August 19. Today, the songwriters share their next single and first track from the record, “The Tides.”

The captivating single vocalizes the discomfort we feel when the temporary homes we build, whether it be relationships, identities, or self-images are inevitably taken from us. The track opens the album with modular synth wave sounds created by synth legend Suzanne Ciani and a slow-burning growth of resonant strings and guitar, accompanied by a video.

In discussing the song, both singer-songwriters, Scott Ferreter and Morgan Bolender said, “In some ways, the song represents the mindset we both met in. Practicing choosing the truth of the unknown over comfort and safety.” They continued, “Both verses sing, ‘your job my son…’ and ‘your job my daughter…’ are Scott singing to himself. In that way, there’s an honoring of a sort of spiritual queerness.”

Shannon Hudson – I’m Praying Now

Categories: Audio, Rock, The Latest|Tags: , |

“In a world where all distances have been cut short and communication capabilities are endless, we may feel more isolated than ever. The artist spots the issue of human discriminations and prays for a better tomorrow. Original Americana style and top quality of sound by Shannon Hudson.”

-Nagamag.com

Artist said about this song:

"I’ll just say it. I’m still floored when I hear this recording. Early on in the process of making this record, I got set up with an amazing bunch of musicians. I was on a high from doing the first song start to finish. The caliber of the band was so good, it was just flooring me.

At that point, I came to this song. I had in my head that I wanted some pedal steel guitar on it, and Jon Graboff is my favorite pedal steel player of all time. I had never met Jon, and I’m sure he didn’t know me at all - but I was riding a high - and I reached out to him - because, what could I lose? To my surprise, Jon was willing to play on the song. When he sent me a test run recording, I was floored. It was undeniable who was playing the part, because only Jon would play that type of part - and it was perfect.

The song itself is a reflection upon a lot of of events that have happened in the world over the last couple of years. Namely, the de-humanization of groups of people. In my experience, this is mostly done to stoke fear, and to reach some sort of political goal. I think we’ve gotten a little too good at ripping the humanity away from another human as of late, and we’d all be better off if we had to look those people in the face before making any rash decisions about them."
